And no i dont agree that showing Yash Johar families is the CURE for our society, i never said that, im pointing out that THIS is what a large rural audience prefers. And im not one to say what they can and cannot like. Hollywood too largely glamorizes life, and this seems to work for its audience as well, overtime class systems and major poverty wasnt a predominant part of the american lifestyle which is why it hink movies such as Inception can be taken in so easily by its audience. I definitley agree that films should be a medium to educate people about things that happen around the world, and even enhance their knowledge of what is and isnt possible, but i have a very strong inkling that rural, lower-middle class families dont actually have the time to focus on someone elses struggles which is essentially why they turn to escapist love-story family dramas with an easy finish and a dose of masala.

Rather than Not BLAMING on ANYBODY.....How About EVERYBODY is to be BLAMED? There is always someone to be blamed. šŸ˜‰ We as an audience for taking all the crap. The Film-makers who are not responsible enough. Even the award functions-- such crap award functions we have šŸ˜•šŸ˜• I dont even want to get started on that.

As for Yash Johar...sorry I wasn't indicating that u said that. I was just justifying my stance with an example. 😳

what i find most amusing is that most of the bolly audience can't appreciate movies of different genres...!
i know people who have loved Inception, and i know some that thought it was okay... i haven't seen it yet, so i can't say how much i would like it...
i think that in hollywood, people are much more accepting of different genres of movies... that is why on one hand, if Inception is a hit, then there is also Transformers which was a huge hit, and then of course there is Twilight... while personally, i thought it was a so-so movie, i can see why it became such a rage with the audience... i think most of the movies have both their positive and negative aspects...
problem is, that when an OSO releases with a Saawariya, the opinions HAVE to be thus... OSO was such an entertaining movie, but Saawariya was such a bore... OR, OSO was such a crappy movie while Saawariya was a classic... i'm not saying that one movie was better than the other, but most people can't appreciate both the movies for what they are...! that's just how it is...
the audience is so divided... either they just want mindless comedies, or the pseudo-intellectual group who can't get past the art flicks...
and i can't say that audience are to be blamed... they are paying for the movies they watch... so whoever wants to watch whichever movie, it's their own choice...!
as for the lack of writers... i don't think there is lack of talent in India... it's just that they don't get a chance... or rather, most producers/directors don't like taking chances... and stick with something that they think would work...
that's not to say, that monetary aspect is not kept in mind in hollywood... and c'mon... i think everyone knew that Inception would work, even before the movie released... šŸ˜› there are quite a certain number of movies, that you just know would work...!! šŸ˜›
and yes, there are other industries in india as well, besides bollywood... but since hindi seems to be the most common language spoken, it just garners more attention, i guess...!

Of course audiences prefer movies 'built on escapism' because that's what they've been shown and maybe that's exactly why the audiences have never grown and well, even the movie makers. If Bollywood keeps showing same stuff over and over again and dont ever grow up- how will the audiences mature? I'm not arguing that Bolly should make a movie like Inception but just that the filmmakers should be responsible/daring enough to experiment esp the big banners where all the money is.

And by Inception, I didnt think the interviewer was referring only to the movie- but the IDEA. Why cant Bollywood come up with something so novel or something so significant or even inspiring? Why cant the film-makers think beyond society/culture/outdoor shootings/clothes/songs/dance and yet make it an interesting watchable movie that also cater to an Indian audience? They wont coz all they care about is a hit and who has time to think instead of making money with same ol' same ol'? I know that u need to burn cash to live big dreams but when u know the limitations, you can come up with such designs too. IF YOU THINK WELL ENOUGH.

BW used to make such good/ ground breaking movies back in its hey days. Take Raj kapoor/ Hrishikesh Mukharjee or Satyajit Ray for instance. But recently, can we think of any good movies that changed the course of the cinema or the way audience think or even MAKE an audience THINK (U dont need big budget to do that, do u?)? Again, not saying that INCEPTION was ground breaking but it surely changed the perception of the way people wud think.

That being said, movies like Inception- Matrix are a hit or a miss. There's always a huge risk involved ( big money). Of course, they are targeted towards a different audiences and of course, Nolan didnt know its impact or box office report while writing it. But he had an IDEA and he executed it so well. People may have loved it or may have trashed it but kudos to the makers for their guts to move/think beyond the normal/physical/mental realm.

you nailed it...!! šŸ‘

šŸ˜† you know... i was watching National Treasure couple weeks ago... and that blame line reminded me of that dialogue... somebody's got to go to jail...! šŸ˜‰
problem is that there is such a huge mix in the audience, and everyone has such different likes and dislikes, i don't feel right blaming the audience... because i for one, can appreciate all sorts of movies... film makers, are just trying to protect their own investment, i guess... so can't really blame them either... but yes, i can definitely blame the award functions... only the movies that are hit and have big stars ever get notice... rest are just disowned... well, sort of...! Embarrassed

Naturally everyone and everything has played a role in the flaws of our industry, but i think 'blame' is the wrong word. Come on people, hindi isnt our only language, you think if they make a movie like Inception in hindi with the complexities of the human mind explained in that one language and all of India is going to be able to understand it or even watch it? America can make huge budget thought provoking films, the country shares ONE language, each state is different but the essential culture isnt.

What about a film like harishchandra's factory? it is a phenomenal thought provoking completley non-shallow film about the begining of the indian film industry, but its made in Marathi. Your going to BLAME the indian audience for not being able to appreciate a film in another language and warm up to easily? When i say its nobodys fault it should be evident that i mean there are a shitload of walls and quite simply societal hurdles we may have to jump to be able to make a mass-appeal thought provoker like inception.

why do we need to make films like hollywood ppl continually talk abt making films like hollywood but then what would happen to individuality what would make hollywood different from bollywood then if we keep wanting to make stuff like them?
why not just watch those type of films in hollywood and not complain abt it not being it bollywood. ppl always complain bwood tries to copy hwood now the ppl say tht they should try to make movies like them

i loved his response. its true that hollywood has shown a lot more creativity compared to bwood...but thats because hollywood movies have such a vast audience and a lot of money. inception would be what it is if there wasnt sooo much money behind the making of it along with the minds that created it. bwood doesnt have that kind of money or such a vast audience.
i love hollywood and bollywood movies but hollywood offers a lot more variety in terms of content

Aamir's naming his movies as one of the most unique and different moviesšŸ˜† That's what I call cocky.

Bollywood can remake InceptionšŸ˜† Just watch and see that a remake will be made and then it's going to be called as path breaking cinema.

A brilliant actor like Leonardo Dicaprio is what makes the extra milešŸ‘ I was watching a movie of his couple days ago and the movie was about how he wanted to know the mystery and danger behind this one place, he was playing like it a video game. If it was a bollywood movie, it would've been a boring movie. But since the brilliant Leonardo was in it, he made it really good.

I think bollywood is good at entertaining and telling a story is what hollywood is good at😊 I love entertainment and I love tell all story so both for me. But entertainment more for mešŸ˜†
