YESS than im sure i will totally love iti love bollywodo cause they are so typical bollywooddif iw ant something non bolly than iw atch hollysoo finally yess a real bolly moviee😃
Hey Guys
I watched the movie last night and I just couldn't resist but post my review.
Let's be honest there is a reason Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is my fav movie of all time (bollywood) that is, it's because I love the cheesiness, I love the songs, I love the chemistry...simply put I LOVE 'love stories'. So you can see why I would be excited about another love story coming out.
Next up I am biased about Imran and Sonam, I LOVE them. and when I heard they were doing a movie together I was estatic. Then the proos started coming and I was hyper waiting for the movie. The songs did nothing but get me more excited about the movie.
So yesterday when I got off work and I heard my sister and her friend were going to catch this movie, I decided to skip eclipse in the nearby theatre and forced myself on my sister and her friend! LOL....ofcourse we were late to the movie, due to insane Canada day traffic but when I finally ran into the theatre and scrambled into the first chair, I breathed a sigh of relief bec I was finally THERE...right infront of Imran and Sonam....and I had a grin on my face from the first moment on till the end of the movie!!!!
Okay now the actual review................lol
The movie wasn't hard to catch up with even though I had missed the first 15 minutes, but when I walked in Jai and Simran were fighting and I could FEEL the chemistry right away......I mean there were sparks and I could feel them. But more about the chemistry later....Let's break this down
Things I liked:
Imran-I am not being biased here, but my sister who thinks Imran is too pretty even found his as Jai adorable. I dare you not to fall for Jai.....I dare you. He is obnoxious but he is so freaking cute..you can't help but fall for him. Imran plays Jai so well, it's like he brings a lot of himself to Jai. There is the flirty side of him, the funny side of him, the I-could-care-less about what others think ...all this combiantion is just hot and cute. And I LOVED him in the title track he was awesome.
Sonam: 'Cute' that's the word that can describe Simran's character. We all know Simran is the girl next door. She is not gorgeous, she is not meant to be...she is cute, she is sweet...she is the one guys take home to marry, but she isn't the one they meet in clubs. Sonam brings an innocence and cuteness to Simran that I think is a part of her personality. Which makes her so relatable. ....I mean can't see myself hanging out with Sakina at the mall....but I can totally see my and Simran going to the movies....and well that's what u want...A character you can relate to.
Chemistry: I thought Imran and sonam were adorable together. That scene in the beginning when Imran is telling sonam to be nice to her staff....I could feel the sizzle even then....then when he decorates the whole place in red...I was gushing like crazy. They argue well, they banter well, and I wanna see more movies with them.
Plot: People, let's not complain about the plot. I mean movies are made to win oscars and then movies are made to just relax and enjoy. This movie is the latter....we all knew that. So why are some critics getting all hyper about the fact that the movie plot is nothing extraordinary? The director never said it was, the promos never pretended it was, the actors even mentioned the movie is nothing path breaking....so really there is no need for people to be surprised and act like it is a predictable movie.
We all know when we walk into a movie that is a rom-com that it basically follows the same formula.....take The Ugly Truth, take The Leap year, ...etc etc....Guy meets girl....They hate each other....they become friends.....they fall in love..............enter love triangle........angst songs.....climax....guy marries girl....the end.. So those saying predictable plot...what did u expect....the guy and girl to marry other people? Seriously....we know the ending...the fun is how to get there....And I think the movie does that well....You laugh...you are hurt for Jai and Imran....you humm along with the songs....and you root for these two to get together and you cheer when they do..!!...Also I disagree with people who called it time-pass.............saying that it is time pass is saying that time spent watching this movie can be spent doing something else and you won't miss much. I have to say I thouroughly enjoyed my time in the theatre, and I haven't enjoyed a Bollywood movie in a long time. There hasn't been any good romance movies for a long long time.
The movie is placed in a Bollywood setting, so films are going to play a major part in the movie. I thought the spoofs were hilarious....and the scene where J's friend gives him a checklist for the actions of a typical hero was good. Also the scenes with J's ex-flame trying to make Simran jealous were good. My fav scene is the one where Imran keeps seeing all the signs of Srk's movie in his life as well..and they all point to Simran. Loved it!
Songs: I think all the songs are amazing...I just wish they had kept the Male bahara verision. Also I think the songs were situational. I read a review where the person said that the songs seemed forced.....I disagree completely! The scenes and the score went together very well...Loved Jab mila tu...title track and bahara.
Things I wanted or Didn't like!
Okay this list is relatively small. But there is a couple of things that needed improvement. Imran needs to work on his emotional scenes. Crying is not his forte.....but then he is new and will def learn more with time. Sonam also needs to imrove her acting ...but that goes for any new comer.....
Also I wanted more romance and more angst...I am a sucker for angst!...so needed a bit more grabbing the girl and desperately trying to make her understand that u love her scenes....Sigh...that would have added intensity to plot.
Other than that I think things were pretty good.
Summary:
I Hate Luv Storys is NO Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.............but then again that kind of movie only comes once in a decade. But while we wait for that kind of movie....I will take any feel good movie that makes me believe in romance again....a movie that make me laugh........a movie that make my heart warm up.....a movie that makes me root for its lead pair.....a movie that makes me wanna break out into a song .............and a movie that makes me believe that you don't need a perfect guy with a perfect job and a perfect wardrobe...perfect family.........u just need one who loves you. And I hate Luv storys accomplishes all that. What more can you ask for?
Coming from Karan Johar's production house, the title is refreshingly irreverent. Here Johar takes a step forward: he gives space, through the film's central protagonist, to the section of audience that abhors his syrupy love stories and rolls their eyes as yet another karvachauth song plays out in the mansion with the dual staircase.
Ironically, this character Jai (Imran Khan), works for Veer Chopra, a director famous for making such formulaic blockbusters. A spoof on Karan Johar, the 30-something filmmaker (played by Sameer Soni), is constantly made fun of for his propensity to fill the heroine's room with soft toys and pink curtains, and for his corny dialogues (mujhse dosti karoge/palat).
The film under production is titled Pyar Pyar Pyar and you're delighted at Johar's self-derogatory humorous stance (he also pokes fun at several blockbusters, many his own). Of course, he tells Jai that whatever he may think of his films, they "connect with the audience". And this character also exonerates itself by playing the good-hearted cupid towards the end. But still, it's rare for an industry heavyweight to laugh at himself.
Interestingly, Jai, who's cynical about love and is therefore a Casanova (this film could have spared us the stereotypes), finds himself drawn to a girl Simran (Sonam Kapoor) at first sight. Turns out they're going to be working together too – she's the set designer of Veer Chopra's latest film, and he's going to be her assistant. And, yes, while he hates love stories, she's an ardent devotee.
Simran seems to have the perfect life, including an adoring boyfriend (aptly named Raj) who brings her flowers every day. And this is where the film falters: in its extreme characterisation. Eventually we are to see Simran's character in a dilemma over whom to choose.
At one end is Raj, an investment banker "from London", who we're told is too boring. And the exact opposite – Jai, who lies to women to sleep with them. And then asks them to leave early next morning without breakfast, and at times, without their shoes. (Of course, the dumped girl in question is portrayed as being an air-head and with a fake accent, so as to dilute our sympathy.)
The film wants us to believe that he's a better option over Raj. Why? Because he's fun and brings her red flowers instead of Raj's dreary white.
It's not the premise that's unique here, it's the storytelling – where the film-within-a-film format acquires a new dimension, with the real and reel merging. That's where the fun really begins, when everything Jai disbelieves in happens to him. In the end, it's also a metaphor for the film, which begins on an irreverent note, but ends like a conventional Hindi movie.
You can tell that debut filmmaker Punit Malhotra (earlier assistant to Karan Johar), is avidly inspired by English sitcoms and Hollywood rom-coms. It's a disease that plagues several new filmmakers. The film is full of such references: Jai's character is stock sitcom material (much like Charlie from Two and a Half Men), the upset female character who eats a tub of ice-cream, the over-smart comedy that's only missing the canned laughter track, and a world where heart-broken men visit strip clubs to cheer up.
And from there, the film nosedives into familiar Hindi film vocabulary with words like pyaar and khoobsoorat.
An aspect that could have been hugely entertaining for the audience would have been the snatches of the filmmaking process. But sadly, instead of showing a real glimpse, the film just keeps up the commonly-believed facade that making a picture is one giant party.
The relationship between Jai and his mother is again filmi-friendly, and his aversion towards love is hurriedly explained off in the parents' divorce. Strange, and seriously objectionable, is the mother telling her heart-broken son, "I had asked God for a son, but he gave me a daughter who's crying over the phone."
The film is bland without Imran Khan. As the boy-man who's quite confused himself most of the times, Imran Khan is masterful. Sonam Kapoor is alright, but the role needed more punch.
For the cheeky comedy that often laughs at itself and largely for Imran Khan, this is a likely weekend treat, served sizzling hot.
