Decoding celebrity relationships

Were Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan hamming it for the cameras (like Jen Aniston and Gerard Butler did for Bounty Hunter) when they made goo-goo eyes at Cannes recently? After all, they're usually so conscious in public!

We couldn't figure it out, so we brought in the expert to decipher the couple's 'looks of love', and what it says about their relationship.

Psychotherapist H'vovi Bhagwagar gave us some interesting insights into celebrity love lives.

The couple: Aishwarya & Abhishek Bachchan

Relationship decoded:

Their public display of affection is a little over-the-top in this picture. Most couples don't need to show off their relationship unless they've got something to say to others (most probably their exs).
Their body language is too "close" to look genuine - in fact they're very aware of the camera/other people around them.
Their smiles don't reach their eyes, which would have happened had they been genuinely engrossed in each other. This seems more like a 'show for the world'.
• They're a too well-coordinated couple in every aspect, from their clothes to their smiles to the matching tilt of their head. Such over-coordination reeks of insecurity.

Will the relationship last? If it does, then it will in all likelihood be because the couple doesn't want to let others down or look bad in the eyes of the world.

The couple: Twinkle Khanna & Akshay Kumar

Akshay's a good actor, but his body language is a dead giveaway! The dark glasses and hand in the pocket show he's got a lot to hide. He seems like he doesn't like to expose much about himself. His cocky side smile indicates over-confidence. The hands-in-the-pocket pose also indicates a lack of equal affection for the partner. Akshay seems to be leaning more towards the photographer than his wife - a suggestion that his public image is more important than his relationship!

Twinkle seems the more "in need" partner, watch how she clings to Askhay! Her facial expression is rigid and tense.

Relationship decoded:

They're standing close to each other, which shows good chemistry, it could be one of the strongest factors in their relationship!
They're looking in different direction, which shows they're both independent and may have different interests.
• Watch how their clothes don't coordinate (his too casual, hers elegant), again a sign of each going in their own direction.

Will the relationship last? Most likely it will, but a larger effort will come from Twinkle.

Tips to get the sizzle back: Develop common interests.

The couple: Kareena Kapoor & Saif Ali Khan

Kareena's almost "holding onto" Saif with both hands, which may indicate her emotional dependence on Saif. Her clinging may also show a slight insecurity since the relationship isn't legal yet. Kareena's relaxed smile and dilated pupils show the "starry-eyed" effect of happiness and contentment.

Saif's direct gaze shows pride and assuredness. His open posture indicates that he's comfortable and secure with life and his relationship. Offering his arm as "support" shows he's gentlemanly and pampers his partner. The Kurbaan star seems protective of Kareena - notice how his body is angling slightly forward to cover her.

Relationship decoded:

They're looking in the same direction, which indicates mutual respect and understanding. Their relaxed expression and calm, unruffled appearance shows a general compatibility and happiness.
• Their well-coordinated clothes (seen in many of their pictures) again show an involvement and interest in each others' lives.

Will it last? My guess, it should!

The couple: Shah Rukh & Gauri Khan

This picture exudes warmth! Shah Rukh Khan's wide laugh and crinkling eyes show he's genuinely enjoying Gauri's comment. His leaning towards Gauri also indicates an interest in what she's saying. Gauri's relaxed posture and involved look show that she's comfortable in SRK's company.

Gauri's features are relaxed, her smile is genuine and she looks towards her husband as she speaks. These are positive indicators of her happiness.

Relationship decoded:

It says a lot about a couple's relationship when they can share a joke with each other! Their mutual comfort is apparent.
Although sitting at a distance their posture indicates the years of comfort they share and it's obvious they enjoy each other's company a lot.
The distance could also be because they are secure and don't need to prove their relationship. SRK and Gauri are looking towards each other while talking, which indicates a mutual respect.
• Though their outfits are not totally coordinated, they still appear completely in sync with one another.

Will it last? Most definitely yes!

The couple: Hrithik & Suzanne Roshan

Hrithik looks preoccupied, it show he's not completely focused on his partner. His downturned mouth indicates a generally unhappy mood. Hrithik's all-black outfit (completely clashing with Suzanne's) also gives away his distracted/depressed mood.

Suzanne's eyes are half-shut and the expression in her eyes is distant. Suzanne's mouth is set in hard, rigid lines showing discontentment.

Relationship decoded:

Most strained couples stand rigid next to each other in parallel form, as is obvious from Suzanne and Hrithik's pose.
They don't show the usual happy couple posture of turning towards each other or moulding their bodies into each other. This couple does not have even a trace of a smile on their faces.
• They are also looking in completely different directions and seem to be holding onto each other more for the camera's sake.

Will it last? Can't say, but one thing's for sure the couple's body language reveals they are going through a rough patch.

Tips to get the sizzle back for them: They should open up communication and consider marital counselling, on the double!
