'People needed to know the real Salman'

The actor wants to change the negative perception that people have about him and says he won't let anyone use him for personal interests

Gone are the days when Salman Khan didn't care about how the media projected him. From being called the bad-boy of Bollywood to being projected as a troublemaker, Salman's public perception hasn't been flattering.

However, things have changed now. The actor has become more accessible to the media and reports of his humanitarian activities are making more news than his erratic ways.

Salman says, "People needed to know the real Salman Khan. A certain image of mine was constantly being projected to my fans which was untrue. Because I used to stay away from media interactions, a certain section projected me as this man who doesn't care about anything. I used to read absurd reports that were being published without my confirmation. It was taken for granted that Salman won't speak or come out and deny a story. I felt that it was just being unfair to me as well as to people who were being bombarded with only negative reports about me. So it was high time I changed that perception."

Some of Salman's close friends and industry associates had also advised to interact more with the media and speak about his charity work. He says, "Earlier, I never used to speak about all that I did to help people. So no one used to bother to write about it then. But my friends and colleagues felt that my humanitarian work should be spoken about. They told me to speak to the media more because I was keeping them away from knowing me."

He signs off saying, "I still don't think I am very open but at least people know a lot more about me now. I am not inaccessible but I get put off by people who stay in touch with me with the vicious interest of getting headlines out of me. I won't let anyone use me for their personal interests. I have avoided these kind of people and will always avoid them in life."

so true.. i remember as a kid.. when we got zeetv i was 9-10 years old that time.. i heard on tv that salman khan dont give interviews i never thought that he is arrogant.. i always said why dont he give an interview.. like other.. i want to know about his likes dislikes.. but thnks to internet which gives us more info..
