I would have to say that Priyanka isn't overrated. Admittedly, there have only been four of her movies in her seven-year-long career that have really defined her acting prowess but in her defense, a large portion of her movies usually had her in a half-baked role that didn't need her to be at the top of her game (PI, Krissh) and she delivered as the script required her to do so. One really can't criticize her for not giving a performance like she did in Kaminey when her role is largely decorative a la Don.

If one looks at her career graph, Priyanka debuted with Andaaz, had succes with Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Aitraaz in 2005 and segued into Don, Krissh. In three years, that isn't bad. Compare Priyanka's first three years with say someone like Rani's and you'll find Priyanka fares marginally better. Sure, she had a pretty bad 4th year - with SEI and a string of flops that include LS 2050, GTGH, etc but she also delivered with Fashion which was quickly followed up with Kaminey and WYR. It took her less than 3 years to consolidate her position in the industry, which I presume is why she was given a role in Don, Krrissh. Not to pick on everyone's favourite and all, but Rani took 6 years to deliver her first solo hit in Saathiya and another two years to climb the ladder and consolidate her position which Priyanka did in a relatively shorter time span. So, I wouldn't say she doesn't warrant the hype that surrounds her success. As far as I'm concerned, she deserves it for establishing herself fairly quickly.

Priyanka has had her fair share of performances where she has overacted (LS 2050) and been criticized for it several times over. Then there are movies like Kaminey or Aitraaz that really make me wonder why she doesn't choose roles that accentuate her acting mettle instead of downplaying it. Movies where her acting is mediocre -- critics deem it mediocre. I've yet to read up on a critical review that brackets her with the likes of Madhuri or Sridevi. Amongst the actresses today and the kind of roles they play, I would say Priyanka is a good actress and as far as I know, critics deem her to be one of the better actresses today. Nothing wrong with calling a spade as you [they] see it.

As for her overexposure, I feel that has lessened somewhat especially when you consider how often she used to be on magazine covers in 2009. The thing about her being "underdressed" irked me. Her proclivity towards short dresses is not really anyone's business. If people criticized the style rut that she's been in for the past year or so, that I would understand. What I can't understand is the criticism directed at her simply because her dresses happen to be short.

^^ Conisdering that, NONE of the actresses OR actors for that matter, can be considered overrated. 😉

I'd still call her overrated, because all the hype does not reflect her body of work. You brought in Rani as an example. Her share of great perfromances (in numbers) exceeds that of Priyanka, even if she may not have achieved success sooner.

With that in question, Katrina trumps over Priyanka, because even she has a performance, that critics did rave about, namely New York as well as Namaste London, and her career graph and number of hits far exceeds that of Priyanka. Going by your logic, she also deserves all the accolodes and attention that come her way. 😃

Actually, I count the number of performaces that are worthy of remembrance. Unfortunately, Priyanka falls short in that department.

I never found anything great in Kangna's performance in Fashion because that's what the girl ALWAYS does. In every movie...her role's always similar. Nothing new. The same kinda crying, screaming.

And as for overrated...these days, Katrina, Kareena and PC get equal coverage from the media. So I don't see where the "overratedness" comes from. She's as much in the news as others, if not less/more. I don't see any extra media hype around her.
