He is right. My dad said that long baack, they used to call women Khanum. But that was in purana zamana. No one says Khanum anymore.

The sikh names singh and kaur and not last names. They're like middle names i guess. The women would have kaur as their middle names(if the parents wish--isnt necessary) and the guys have singhs. The last names are different altogether. But some people do use singh or kaur as their legal last names.

Is it the same with khan? ^

Gauri Khan.
I don't think it really is Gauri Khanum, I think SRK means it should be...because that's the authentic way of doing it. But noone does it these days.

and srk is right, people do say, 'khan saab' so in that sense yes, it is a title rather than a name. a name that demands respect.
