I don't know how Aamir khan does it.. but it seems that he is the only guy who has the ability to create good bo numbers for his message oriented and greatly reviewed.. nice flicks.. I guess people should take a lesson or two from him.. to publicize their movies.. I mean making a movie Tare zammen pe.. comercially successful is not that easy.. its a great movie.. but to pull out that kinda response is even hard for some of the commercial movies.. dont know how he does it.. Does he have a magic wand or something..?? hehe

exactly, Amir i think over the years garnered the kind of respect in audience that watever the content is people get attracted to his movies, part of the reason...he doesn't disappoint his fans. He doesn't just do movies for the sake of banners, friends or money. Even though Big B has been in industry for all these years, in last few years ..he completely destroyed his image by doing idiotic roles and by giving idiotic interviews. And great reviews dont mean great BO. Kurbaan bombed miserably even with these many good reviews. personally, after watching the movie..i thought there were many loopholes and saif's charecter should have been played by some one else..he and his charecterization didn't look realistic. He not once to me looked like he truely loved kareena, so his heartchange at the end seem unrealistic to me. but that's me.

I the strike is one major reason for the Box Office situation this year. Too many movies releasing too soon after each other. Next week Rocket Singh will be out in the theatres (I don't think it will really burn up the box office either since it is being promoted abysmally). Then two weeks later 3 Idiots and kaam khatam.

The only lull period was during Ramzan where none of the big films released. Apart from that there have hardly been any solo releases this year, forget about having a couple of weeks as a cushion.

Twilight 'New Moon' is realeasing on same day as Rocket Singh in India. So that might affect it's BO as well...
Too many big movies coming one after the other..it seems like there's one every Friday. Next year Jan and Feb are no better. They look very crowded too. I guess Bollywood has to take a breather and stop making so many big budget movies every year.

It has nothing to do with the movies. The movie will get good reviews, even teh audience's feedback might be good. But the fact is that TOO MANY MOVIES releasing around the same time killed all their BO prospects.
How many movies will the audiences watch? There's a new biggie releasing EVERY FRIKKIN week.
With teh exception of APKGK, all the movies took a dismal opening or plunged significantly. Basically none were on par. Horrible, truly horrible.
And its sad coz some of those movies that arent doing well were actually decent flicks. Had they released right after the strike or slightly spaced apart, they would have done well.

ya, i agree..its sad that people chose crap movies like Dhe Dana Dan and etc..over good movies such as Kurbaan and now paa😕

Also it seems to me, that comedies are the only movies that seem to mostly work nowadays

New York and Kaminey did quite well..also Wanted was the biggest hit this year and that's not a comedy. But its true comedies make money much more easily, regardless of quality. Whereas for a thriller to work it really has to connect to the audience in some way.
