Saw the first day, first show of Paa and I just couldn't stop crying...yet when I came out of the Theatre, I wasn't depressed or down...the film was very uplifting, very positive and a beautiful story of human relationships, which touches every chord in your heart!
The story is kept simple and is not preachy, despite the subject matter being a Progeric affected child. The fact that the child is suffering from this rare disease is just incidental to the story, nothing more.
The performances are simply outstanding! Abhishek Bacchan and Vidya Balan do an excellent jobs playing Amol and Vidya...but it is Vidya who steals the thunder from Junior B! She is simply superb! Almost like her second coming after Parineeta! I doubt any other actress in bollywood today could have lend so much grace and dignity to the character of a single mother as Vidya did.
The other supporting characters like Paresh Rawal, playing Abhishek's politician dad and the kids in Auro's class are just amazing! The director has to be given credit for getting out such wonderful performances from the child artists! I especially loved the boy who plays Vishnu! Also, Arundhati Naag who plays Auro's grandmother is too good!
But ultimately, Paa begins and ends with Mr. Amitabh Bacchan! If you guys think that this actor cannot possibly outdo his previous performances, watch Paa and you will be in for a shock! I can safely say that I have seen atleast 80% of Mr. Bacchan's movies till date and his performance in Paa tops them easily! He is that good! Infact, so good is he, that one simply cannot believe its Amitabh Bacchan on screen. Its Auro...the cutest character ever created since ET!
He makes you smile, he makes you laugh, he makes you giggle, he makes you sad and he makes you cry...A Lot! Here is one character you will take home with you long after the movie is over! One of the best written parts in a long time and one of the most breathtaking performances in a long, long time!
I was really rooting for Shahid Kapoor to take all the awards for his excellent peformance in Kaminey, but after watching Paa...I don't think anyone else would deserve an award more than Mr. Bacchan for his incredibly natural and heartwarming performance in this movie!
And if there is any justice and if these award organizers choose to ignore the star sytem ranking, then Vidya Balan has my vote for best actress!
Btw, I can't understand why the movie is called Paa! It should either have been called Auro or Maa...because Abhishek, even though impressive, falls far behind both Mr. Bacchan and Vidya in terms of both characterisation and performance! Besides, the relationship between the Mother and Son is drawn out far more beautifully than the one between the Father and Son! Mr. Bacchan and Vidya Balan's Mother-son chemistry is simply crackling!
The music is fine, keeps in mood with the theme...the locales are fabulous! If I had to rate, I would happily give it a 5/5, more because I was too busy laughing and crying with Auro to notice any flawss that the movie carried (I am sure it had some...maybe on a second viewing, I will see them!)
Its a must, must, must watch! If I had to compare it, I would say its something like Taare Zameen Par...very emotional and heartwrenching, at the same time, an upliftng and positive movie!
I am sure, I want to watch it a couple of times more! 😃

PS: Its also nice to finally get to see a 'Family Movie' which you can enjoy with every member of your family!

In the end just another routine Bollywood mushy love story that uses the Hutchinson–Gilford syndrome aka Projeria as a medium rather than the typical boy meets girl; boy and girl fall in love; girl gets pregnant; boy dumps girl; girl has baby.... formula. I wish the storyteller had used a more realistic approach towards this genetic condition. The India Janta's vocabulary has now been enriched with dyslexia and projeria. Bravo! Hoh Hum!!!

Wonder which planet is the beneficiary of the school depicted in this movie, where the kids are sweet, considerate, kind, accepting, thoughtful, sensitive, and well adjusted towards a freaky looking classmate?
The only grace saving part of the movie was we were spared having to look at Amitabh and his predictable and atypical style of acting. Auro was a welcome change even if Amitabh was the person hidden behind the makeup. This is the very first time ever that I have enjoyed Amitabh's acting because as KJo said yesterday, "Amitabh wasn't even there. There was only Auro." Vidya and Abhishek gave sincere, subdued, and subtle performances in support as well. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this movie a 5. For acting, on the same scale I give everyone a 9.

Sometimes there are just some films with such simplicity and purity that they resonate long after the credits are rolling. Paa is one such film, from the opening scene where school children display their vision of India to the final scene of the climax, one can't help reveling in the uplifting message of love, love and love in the film.

5 Reasons you MUST meet Auro:

1. Amitabh Bachchan. What can I really say here..he is the best of the best of the best of the best! He plays a 13 year-old inflicted with progeria so effectively that at one point my PIC (partner-in-crime) turned to me and said "Wow, how do they make his eyes look so old with all those little marks and that greyness? Oh my god I forgot its Amitabh Bachchan underneath all that makeup!"

2. Abhishek Bachchan. No doubt he is his father's son and has inherited his acting repertoire genetically but Jr AB REALLY owns the film. He is subtle, charismatic and so flawless as the politician Amol Arte its lovely to watch him on screen.

3. Vidya Balan is such a delight as Maa. Flowing through her scenes in Sabyasachi sarees as she loves and spoils Auro, works as a Gynecologist and takes care of her mother, you come to realize that in the perfect role, VB shines like the sun!

4.

5. Auro's bff Pratik. He's the studious one with the glasses who wants to be a dancer. The exchange between Pratik and Auro on the phone is so precious (and priceless)!

So what you waiting for?!?!

words cannot express how wonderful this movie was.
One thing to get straight is that this movie is NOT about a disease that the child is suffering from. It's about relationships between a mother and son, a grandma and grandson, a father and son, and a child and his friends. This is a film in true sense, with innocence, humor, and emotions all at play.
There is no reason for Auro to be made fun of in school, because the film is not about his disease and looks. The innocence that Auro depicts is heart-wrenching. The way a child deals with the fact that his father left his mother due to him, and with the fact that his mother and father were never married is depicted beautifully. No preaching, no life lessons, and no emotional atyachar, just simple innocence.
Amitabh Bachchan PROVES yet again that he is the BEST actor in the business. He is so far ahead of everyone that it will take lifetimes to achieve his pedestal. In fact, AB doesn't have to prove anything, this is a fact, which should be imprinted in the hearts of one and all already...if it hasn't been imprinted yet then a discussion on the types of movies and actors you prefer is not needed at all.
Vidya Balan, and Abhi give splendid performances. The end scene when Abhi watches Auro pass, and the rain scene are to look out for. Most actresses would be afraid to play mother to a 13 year old, but to play the mother to Amitabh Bachchan is a task in itself. Vidya carries that task with ease. Her body language, her patience, her frusturation at times, everything about her is amazing.
Watch PAA because it is a film not a movie!

Watch Paa for Amitabh's splendid performance and some heart wrenching moments in the film...Although film is little slow in parts but still it is all hearts!

Acting:
Auro: Coming from a anti-Bachan fan, I must admit he was simply superb in this film. You forget that he is Big B and simply finds this adorable boy called Auro....Big B deserves all the accolades.
Vidya: She is back!!! After Parineeta, I was wondering where vidya is and found in Paa..She was endearing as Auro's single mother and she deserves a nomination in Best Actress...
Abhishek Bachan: His has the weakest role but still he manage to come par with Vidya...I loved him in this movie.....

just finished watching Paa i must say this year Big B is gonna bagged all awards. Really nice movie. Vidya was good as a single mother and ya her dressing in the movie is nice too. AB Jr. and her make really nice jodi. After watching this movie i can say that Vidya is able to take Rani's position (with Jr. AB) as on screen pair

I saw it on saturday..it was kind of good.Nothing new in with story..i felt it was KKHH meeting masoom..Big B has performed really well...and his makeup too is good.He is sure to win lot of awards this year. After parineeta this seems to be the best performance by vidya.Hope she too wins some awards.Abhishek was ok..but wasnt that effective as Big B or vidya. The lady who played vidya's mom was also good..I felt paresh rawal was wasted in the movie. The other child artists were also good..Overall it is good movie just because of the good performances and superb dialogs.
