This one's very similar to the official
New synopsis:
Avantika (Kareena Kapoor), a Psychology professor in New York, decides to make her way back to India to be with her ailing father. She temporarily finds work at the prestigious Delhi University and meets Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan) a substitute teacher at the same University.

Ehsaan may have rubbed her the wrong way trying to steal a cab from under her nose, but his charm is irresistible. Sparks fly and Avantika can't hold out against it for long. Despite reservations about Ehsaan being a Muslim, her father agrees to bless their wedding. Avantika and Ehsaan are married and leave to start a new life in New York.

As soon as they settle in, Avantika manages to find a job for Ehsaan at a local University. They set out to look for a home for themselves, but Ehsaan doesn't seem to like any of the houses they see. Finally through an advertisement of an Indian neighbourhood, Avantika manages to find a house Ehsaan actually likes.

Their neighbours are conservative Muslims and their lifestyles are a revelation to Avantika. At dinner, she is taken away from Ehsaan into another quarter where all the women dine separately. They all seem to blindly accept and obey the code of conduct set by Nasreen, who along with her husband Bhaijaan are almost the de facto head of the neighborhood.
(I've met some famiilies like that...not very pleasant experiences. Its like they all think the same way because of one's influence. But all our other family friends are moderates, not this conservative 😊)
All of them look up to her. All accept another young woman, Salma. Salma visits Avantika surreptitiously the next day and asks her not to trust anyone. She tells her that her own life is in danger and she needs help. What follows are a series of bizarre events that turn Avantika's life upside down and drive her into a morass of emotions that spin madly out of control taking her to a point of no return.

During this period, she meets a temporary Professor called Ehsaan Khan. Soon they begin seeing each other and love blossoms. A few months later, Avantika receives a call from her university in New York, asking her to come back for the Fall Semester. Avanitka breaks the news to Ehsaan. He in turn, tells he doesn't mind coming to the states with her, to find a job. But first they need to get married.

"Soon after the marriage, they leave to start a new life in New York. They buy a house in an Indian neighborhood and move in. Just as they are setting up home, their conservative Muslim neighbors, Hamid and Anjum, invite them over for dinner. The next morning, Salma, one of the women Avantika met the night before at the dinner, visits her under the pretext of gifting her sweets. When Avantika invites her in, Salma tells her that she is in grave danger. Nothing is what it seems. Salma pleads with Avantika to help her. What follows next, is a series of incidents that suck Avantika into a vortex of danger and intrigue. As her life spirals out of control, Avantika realizes that she is a pawn in a huge game. And no one is to be trusted."

Is it just me, or does this feel like a cross between Rosemary's baby and Fanaa? Or maybe it's just the creepy neighbours..

There definitely seems to be major Fanaa elements. I haven't seen Rosemary's Baby.

I dont remember this in Fanaa though.
As far as I remember, kajol loves aamir, she's blind, and one day he disappears. Then she's in kashmir, turns out hes a terrorist and he's hurt and comes back and starts living wiht her, but she doesnt know he's her husband or something.
This one's more to do with creepy conservative neighbors and an entire plot where sh'es a part of it.
And it has deifnite statements on islam. Fanaa steered clear.
And some, some of those ultra conservative families do make me uncomfortable..and i'm muslim!
Like i remember one time, my mum and i went to dinner iwth such families. And its understandable that men adn women sit separately, coz htey do in some households nad hta's fine.
But they were all giving me and my mum lookscoz we didnt have our head covered...and they all did. It was just so uncomfortable.

this one has blockbuster written all over it. A great thriller with great star cast. I think this film will defintely give Kareena nomination and probably an award for playing the distressed and trapped wife.
This sounds much better than Fanaa and New York. A perfect set-up for a thriller
