Bollywood is not a court of law where people's actions are judged for morals and ethics.. bollwyood is bollywood.. where people can escape from reality, put their hair down have fun.. and enjoy.. Everyone comes from a diff background.. with diff life stories and diff expereinces.. so they end up following diff things.. It is not "wrong" to like anyceleb.. If every bolly fan turns into an intelectual viewer and starts juding movies like a phd essay then this world would be a lot more boring.. Variety is spice of life.. Diff fans make this place colorful.. full of life.. So whats wrong with judging anyone about looks.. I would judge them the way I want.. tomorrow someone would tell me to marry an unattractive guy.. just because he is smart.. LMFAO.. I wont do that.. I would go for my hottie any day.. even if I have to compromise with his silly behaviour..

I personally don't have a problem with people discussing how an actor/actress looks. But rather the moments and the words they use to express their opinions. Using words like "bhootni" or "zombie" is hitting below the belt in my book. I also find it annoying when people's statements (quite obviously) have more to do with fan wars than the actor's actions or looks.

As far as the thing about quality cinema is concerned: I am not sure how it is relevant to this topic. But in any case I like discussing movies a certain way and everyone else is entitled to discuss them the way they want. Also I don't believe in the idea of "art movies" either. There are good and bad films. Of course everyone's definition of a good and bad film is different.

GG, Great topic! I agree with ShadowKisses over here, Cinema IS a visual medium so I think it is perfectly justified to criticize/appreciate an actor/actress's appearance in the film (with respect to the character) as long as it doesn't step into bashing. Cause I think in a way, the looks help define the character, you know?... I mean for example, when you look at Akash from DCH and Bhuvan from Lagaan, you can understand a lot about these characters just by looking at them IMO.

The problem is that there are some fans who only focus on the artificial part of looks (Who is looking more pretty and hawt?) as opposed to who looks appropriate for the character... While we all are shallow in some way, focusing ONLY on how hot the actor/actress looks without even considering the other aspects, is something I find unbelievably superficial.

Regarding the public events, I totally agree with ShadowKisses points, but I'd also like to add that, since unfortunately actors/actresses are always gonna be in the limelight whether they like it or not, they should take care not to dress inappropriately in public places... as in vulgarly (like for example maybe unintentionally flashing everyone)... It's not really about looks, its more about looking/dressing decent... And one can look decent even if one does not exactly have an aesthetic appearance.

Agree with the bolded part, some celebs don't care to take much care of themselves, they can't forget that they may be ordinary in their own eyes but in the eyes of media, they are a way to get people to read their magazines, newspapers, or watch their shows. Like any person, a celeb should know how to dress properlly according to where they are, especially celebs.
If this is the case^ which it isn't usually atleast not for Celebrities that know they have to keep up a certain image, then negative feedback is going to occur one can't stop it. HOwever, we need to remember that certain issues like weight should be adressed with proper use. What one may perceive as overweight may not always be the case with someone else.

all im gonna say is "beauty lies in the eye of the beholder"

how many of you look good ALL THE TIME?
why do actors have to wear make-up 24/7
even to the extent that they are expected to be done up at funerals?
and when they wear eyeliner or something, its a sin.
WOW.

Some people really go overboard with the criticism...no ones perfect!
and the actors/actresses probably look better than we do but people still have to pick on them.

for example: my cousin was making fun of an actress for being fat. i was like seriously? she's nowhere near fat. HAHA funny thing is that my cousin is fat. 😆

Ironically, some of those posters a few weeks ago were getting agitated when their favourite's age was being discussed by the media as a problem.

When these sort of attacks happen I think it qualifies as bashing. You can criticise someone and the way they look, without name-calling and hurling insults.

spot on, Geet...
and let's not forget some people start taking offense when their favourite is called old or told to quit movies yet when they do it, it is only an opinion...
and WHY must celebs try and look good 24/7... just because they are celebs, that does not mean their personal lives cease to exist... how ridiculous is that...? they are also humans at the end of the day...
many of the posters here criticise certain celebs more because of their own prejudice... which is a FACT...
btw, GG... i opened this topic because YOU had posted it... i have stopped opening 'who is more pretty', and 'who looks better', etc. thread because i am truly bored of them...!

Okay so before i read someone else's comment and come back to change my answer cause i agree with them here's what I think.

Well I don't think it's wrong in comparing someone with their looks is something we can change. It's in human nature to do that. As much as we'd like people to shut the hell about how pretty and actor/actress looks it wont stop so why bother?

It's not wrong. At least I don't think so

HOWEVER, Judging someone by their looks is something I just HATE. People need to realize that it's the INSIDE that counts. The personality matters more then "good looks."

Moving on to actors. Every minute of everyday they WILL be judged. Being a celerity means looking perfect every moment. At least some people think so. Some people go too far some people defend them at the wrong time. I once replied to a topic and said "Ohh i don't like outfit (yes it was the kajol pic at mandir)" and someone told me "Stop being so harsh and judgmental." Please someone tell me if anything i said was so harsh?

Anyways i somewhat agree.

@bold: I was reading a friend's essay the other day, and she had it on the novel Frankenstein. I still have to read that book, but I plan to read it in the future.

In general aside from celebrities everyone gets judged a lot for their looks in real life as well. People form opinion and make assumptions on the basis of the way someone looks, which is unfortunate, but we all do that. I'm all for personality as well, and I won't necessarily marry a short, bald, and toothless man tomorrow, but I won't give priority to looks much either.

Agreed. But I meant it in a way as if someone seems like a bad because they're not "good looking" then that's just sad =(
I mean yes I do judge I'm not saying that i don't. I do judge people but i don't think of them as a "bad" person.
I wont marry a:
short, bald, and toothless man either but it doesn't make me a bad person it's in human nature to do that.

^ Yeah, I got your point earlier, which is the reason I mentioned Frankenstein. If I understood correctly, then the monster in the book has this ugly form, and people refuse to accept him. He tries to change for the society, and act kind, yet people still tend to judge him on the way he looks. I guess it is in our nature to judge, as humans. Sometimes I prefer IF over real life I can express my view openly, while in reality I can always do that, but people tend to judge quickly.

I have heard of sites that have only "good looking" people, so the ones that don't get accepted are not good looking? I find it a little ridiculous, and in some ways believe looks are overrated vastly.
