After the success of Star Plus's Kaun Banega Crorepati 2, other channels too are jumping on to the game show bandwagon. Sahara One has announced Mission Ek Crore, and Sony's Deal Ya No Deal with Madhavan is coming up soon. Now, Zee has announced Kam Ya Zyaada.
Optimystix will produce Kam Ya Zyaada, a daily game show that will offer Rs 30 million in prize money. An adaptation of the Scandinavian format Gimme Five (G5), owned by the Denmark-based Zodiak Television World, it will air from December. Manoj has mass appeal
Why has the channel chosen Manoj Bajpai? Says Network Programming Head, Kartik Chintamani, "We were very clear from the beginning that we were not looking for a star. In game shows, it is the format that works, and there has to be a perfect marriage between the format and the host.
Manoj is the ideal choice because he has high credibility, is a hard-working individual and a fantastic performer, plus has a superb command over Hindi, which in turn will take the show to the masses – and that's exactly what we are looking for." Interactive format
Chintamani, who was earlier with MTV, further says, "The person in the hot seat can win up to a maximum of Rs 3 crore. Viewers sitting at home can win huge prizes. I can't share the format with you, right now; all I can say is that the show will involve a tremendous amount of viewer interactivity via SMS. Viewers have to follow the fortunes of the person playing with Bajpai to join in."
A special set has been constructed for the show, but Chintamani is tight-lipped about it. "I can't tell you where it is. But yes, we will start shooting very soon." |
