This is an issue which has been brought up for no reason at all !! Firstly I would like to ask the sikh community that they are not suppose to smoke ot consume cigarettes !! Right then why every sikh actor is seen smoking cigarettes Dharmendre, Sunny, Abay, Bobby and many more before them why didn't they make fuss about that !! Can anyone reply to that double standard please !!😕

Plasticpolaroid,

I think you are right that there is a very serious problem with the way Sikh characters have been represented on screen in the past. Yashraj is one of those production houses where even their display of Punjabiyat (they don't seem to know of any other cultural group) is gimmicky. Given that I can understand the concerns of the committee. But I personally do not like the idea of censorship. I think it would serve all parties better to have a reasonable discussion about how to depict religion in cinema.

I also want to add that the patka (which is what Rani is wearing in DBH) has been worn by adult Sikhs who play sports. Harbhajan Singh, Navjot Singh Siddhu, Milkha Singh are some prominent examples. Thus the particular issue they are raising here seems like nitpicking as opposed to a genuine problem. Since DBH also involves Rani playing cricket, this objection seems a bit out of place.

Having said that, let me add that I don't have any fan issues that prompted me to write here. DBH looks like an awful film to me.

Bollywood has a long history of making a total mockery of sikhs and sikhi culture... you invest your money and time making a movie at least do some effin research .. preparing/researching for a movie for Yashraj is figuring out how they can have their actress wear the most revealing outfits and how they can make their chubby movie star lose weight it seems..

and yeah maybe for a lot of people who are ignorant about other people's cultures its not a big deal.. and they probably think a pag is a "fashion statement".. but who cares if they can't make their characters look authentic as long as the lead actress shakes her booty in a music video

and i couldnt have agreed with you more. reading all of the previous statements who were telling so called people to "get a life" etc etc i was laughing b/c i could tell that the individual was probably a youngster who happened to have rani as one of their favorites.
so being a democratic country means that you are free to ridicule other cultures or represent them in a way that would be offensive to them? 😕

Well What I think is that Yash Raj Chopra is a punjabi himself !! Chopras are from punjab and I work with Mrs Chopra who is punjabi and from Ludhiana !! So I donot think YRF is that stupid to represent a community like in any way which could hurt anyones feeling !! No one in the movie is using anyones religion or are abusing them personally !! some people in india have got a habit of flare up issue to make a mountain out of a mole !! I have not seen anywhere Rani misusing her self to abuse sikhs !! I am not writing for a fan fare but trying to resolve the unnecessary hay ho !! I donot have any favourites I just watch movies and not who is doing what in a movie !! For me movies are for entertainment and not create issue for nothing !!

for your clarification being a punjabi does not equal being a sikh.

Thank you! It doesn't matter if yashraj is sikh or not, Imitaz ali or Saif are not sikh, but atleast research was put into the look.
And seriously it doesnt take much knowledge to put into the look of most older sikh men. Rarely do you see a man or even an 18 year old that supports a turban wear one of what Rani is wearing. Little children wear that and that is a known fact. Pretty pathteic that DBH team couldn't use some sense and apply that.
I love Rani and am real excited for dbh. But saying that people dont have a life for raising this issue, is a really dumb thing to say.
Bollywood movies are known to make fun of sikhs thru out the years, if the community is taking a step and making sure their religion isn't ridculed then that is a good thing.

@mzjess

This is part of my post I made earlier. In certain circumstances adult Sikh men also wear the Patka.

Apart from this particular objection, there could still be other offensive things in the movie. But we haven't heard about them yet.

Milkha Singh, I should add, was a sprinter. There is no issue of helmet wearing. He still wore a Patka.

But most of the Indian cricketers of Punjabi origin wears that while playing like
Harbhajan Singh :
=
Bishen singh bedi :
In reality You can't wear a full turban below helmet if you are playing.
Rani's look was inspired by all those punjabi cricketer. So why there were no question has rised when they played cricket at highest level for years with that getup & now for a film raising question is not justified...

The best thing will be let the movie be released first then come up with any issue if any is there !! Why keep on raising issue after issue when we donot know what actual movie is all about !! No person is that stupid to make a movie and spend crores of rupees for to create problems for themselves !! Am I right or not !!😕
