Im a hindu & a citizen of UK but even I have experienced it once. Itsa not a big deal. If it means that my city wont be blown up in a terrorist attack Im all for it. Its worth for the cause of security. And most of the major attacks in the last 10 years have been associated with Asians- so as US or UK I have every reason to ensure the security of my country. If you feel so strongly about it then dont go to the country.

And SRk or any one does not make a diffrenece, everyone is equal.

I do understand that it is done for security purposes. But why were others let go easily as mentioned in the post and why was SRK only the one being interrogated? The system should be equal for all!

This is a really sensitive issue so i am trying to be careful at what i say, but i feel that this just been blown out of proportion, not because of the whole religion thing but because its SRK!!! People have had worse experiences then what he said, he was just detained for 2 hours, there are worse senarios that these news people dont even cover, the only reason such thing has come out is because it happened to SRK, what about the normal public that face these sorts of humilation, no body really puts that on the news.

But i feel that this interigation is just their job, they detected his name and tried to find out about him just like they would to anyone, bombing and terriorism has become a big part of America so every Human that visits their teratory is treated the same be it if its a actor or politician, the only thing is that they need to treat all religions the same, if they're going to suspect a muslim then they should also suspect other religions to be fair. There is a lot of corrupted things that go on and i wont deny that. I am personally a hindu and british and i havent ever experienced racism so i dont even have a tiny feeling of how discrimination feels, but i am speaking from what i have seen and understood. 😊

And about him being stopped, its because they have a specialised system, they have all names recorded, and thats probably the reason he was stopped.

And those that have experienced unfairness, god bless you and I am happy that you all are save despite the bad experiences.

Yeh, an example of this was the New York movie, and also if youtube you will see how many people have suffered, they have been literally tortured to which they are still in state of shock, I have never ever seen indian channels cover such news WHY?? because they're the normal public. SRK was extremely shocked because his so popular and he thinks everyone knows him and everyone respects him, I personally love him too but the fact is the fact that he is a normal person, he is also considered public when he travels to countries on the airport, and a normal patient when he goes to hospitals. The only reason his got so much attention is because of his name. I wish these media channels covered those people that faced worse conditions

Sep 11 was never repeated in US but in India after Parliament attacks there was July-train attacks, Mumbai attacks and so many.

one of my aunts was detained for a routine scan as well.. of course she thought it was an inconvenience but at the end of the day she wasn't too bothered as she thought its something that has to be done.. and she is a sikh

Some points here are very sound. I also agree there have been many other cases that I have come across that are far more sinister than this situation. It's merely because the person in question here is a big celebrity with Kingly status that it has been blown out of proportion. Speaking from a legal point of view, issues that deal with national security overrides any discourses such as humiliation via the interrogation process. It is sad that a certain specified group of people are being the target but one cannot discard the fact that that particular specified group was responsible for mishaps in the USA. It's a balance between taking measures to counter acts of terrorism and causing grief/humiliation. Controversial issue to discuss really. Last thing to say is that being interrogated may not necessarily impart the view that it will cause annoyance or humiliation. It could be taken as a normal security procedure.

MUMBAI: Superstar Shahrukh Khan was detained for about two hours early Saturday morning (around 1am IST) at Newark airport in the US because his surname featured on the most common list. The actor, who is visiting the US to attend a South Asian event where he was the guest of honour was released after Congress MP Rajiv Shukla spoke to the authorities in the US and the Indian counsulate.

The actor was detained after his name flashed on the computer. He was asked several questions about the purpose of his visit. His hand baggage was checked. He was not allowed to even make a phone call for nearly an hour.

Speaking to TOI, the actor said: "I told them I was a movie star and had recently visited the country for the shooting of my film. Nothing seemed to convince the immigration officer. There were other immigration officers who even vouched for me but this particular officer did not listen to anyone. I even told them I had an invitation from the South Asian community and was there to attend an event.'' Shahrukh is to return to India on August 18.

Shukla, who came to the actor's rescue condemned this act saying, "It is really not fair. Just because he has a common surname does not mean that every Muslim can be taken as a suspect or considered to be a terrorist. The Amercian authorities should adopt a methodology so that well-known names like Shahrukh Khan and APJ Abdul Kalam are not harassed like this. They should focus on getting the actual suspects.''
