Considering the world we live in today - the security did what they had to do. Why all this hoopla about it ? Even ordinary "white" americans have had their way of life changed for the worse after 9/11 so if someone is being detained for questioning its not a big deal.Everyone has to go thru security clearence and body check - we didnt have all this crap before 9/11.This is the price we pay for feeling safe.
Even our ex-president Abdul Kalam was detained last year and he just shrugged it off. Mistakes happen as in this case but like it or not this method has proven to be effective so far. They get names of an international database its not just the US agency feeding this.

It is so silly!! Every passenger luggage get checked, but why only question him?? Was it because today is the india independence day?? That's the only reason i can see. I am sure Srk has came to newark airport many times..

India takes up Shahrukh case with US

New Delhi: With Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan being detained and questioned at Newark airport, India today took up the issue with the US Embassy here which said it was ascertaining details about the incident involving the "global icon" who was welcome to America.

"The matter was taken up with the US Embassy," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said soon after the reports about detention of the actor reached here. He said the Embassy was ascertaining factual details of the incident.

Consul General of India in New York is in touch with Khan, Prakash added. US Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer issued a separate statement, saying "We are trying to ascertain the facts of the case--to understand what took place."

Describing Shahrukh Khan as a "global icon", Roemer said "he is a very welcome guest in the United States. Many Americans love his films."

Shahrukh Khan incident has lowered image of US security establishment, says ex-envoy to US

New Delhi, Aug.15 (ANI): India's former ambassador to the United States Naresh Chandra on Saturday said that the detention of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan at Newark International Airport for two hours, clearly exhibited the "ham-handed" approach of American security agencies.

He told ANI over phone that a formal complaint about this harassment should be reported to the US State Department.

Reacting to the incident, Ambassador Chandra said: " The authorities should have taken maximum 10 -15 minutes for questioning Shahrukh, but it took two hours. It is great incompetence and has lowered the image of (US) Homeland Security".

Sources said that Khan was indeed detained at the US airport and questioned for two hours. They said he was released only after Indian Officials intervened.

Sources here said that the Consulate General of New York was in touch with Shahrukh Khan and the matter has been taken up with the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.

According to sources, the Indian consulate could register a formal complaint against the security agencies involved in this "embarrassing" incident.

Some experts said that a formal complaint should be sent to the US envoy in Delhi.

Chandra, however, said that making it a big diplomatic issue would be counterproductive because the incident had nothing to do with US policy, but was the handiwork of lowly officers deployed at the airport. (ANI)

i dnt get wat vishal is talking abt! google srk's name? naam se kya hota hai? the most famous ppl r the ones who get involved in crimes and uses the famous tag as a safeguard ...

it is gr8 that USA doesnt care abt stardom or superstardom wen it cums to security of their nation.. wats wrong in questioning ? national security comes first .. i m happy that USA is nt like the place where i live i mean India where there is no security and wen yu go out of ur home , u go out at ur own risk..

everyday we hear of blasts here and there... bt still their is no proper checking in malls, railway stations , airport etc etc.. and this country worships stars .. for gods sake stars r also human being , they also can b involved in criminal activities

well wat i wrote is nothing against srk .. i personally like srk , and i understand he being innocent must hav felt terrible with such a treatment.i kno it is terrbile and worst thing one can go thru.. . bt individual's feelings doesnt matter when it comes to security of millions of ppl..

I agree with you tpam in the sense that the same rules should apply to everyone and security is of the utmost importance. What this incidence shows to me however is that the US Security people (not sure what they are called) are not really doing that great of a job. What I mean by this is that these were 2 hours wasted on a person who has visited the US countless times.

The thing here is that people are detained often because their names sounds like or is in some way similar to a list of people who send of red flags in their security system. At such a point if you do a google search any officer would realize that this is in fact some other actor guy and not a sneaky criminal. When people are interrogated by security in the US, its usually guided either by matches to certain names of suspects, or if you are from a place like Palestine which sort of has a set image in the minds of the powers that be.

Apart from that racial profiling is a sensitive issue and we can't just dismiss it because of security concerns.

ammu at the airport, they treated Srk as he was a stranger. Okay if this was Srk first ever visit to usa, we can understand but Srk came to usa so many times. Why didn't they question srk during kank shooting or KHNH shooting? both movies came after 9/11 right? If not then, why now? It just doesn't make sense.
