Akshay Kumar is an exception in Bollywood. He is always leading the way and conquering new frontiers. How else Fox Studios will tie up with him for a three-film deal! Despite his last two flops at the box-office; he is a hit with audiences in India and abroad. That's why foreign producers are thrilled with what they are hearing about 'Kambakht Ishq', which has a few Hollywood names attached to it. Akshay's boogie with Snoop Dog and Kylie Minogue has made him relevant to foreign audiences as well. Then there's the tag of him being our most bankable actor. So, Fox Studios ties up with him for a three-film deal! This is practically unheard of in India, though there have been deals with Indian producers. But for a foreign studio, used to tying up with big shots from Hollywood, to sign up a desi hero for astronomical amounts is unique. Besides, the studio has entrusted Akki with setting up the project and has given him a free hand to pick out the scripts and choose his directors. Earlier, we heard foreign studios heading towards Bollywood in a big way, and presenting movies and acquiring world rights to India's big banner productions. They also entered into production work but that was only in collaboration with local producers so far. But Akki has changed it for the better.
Meanwhile the actor is out to promote his film 'Kambakht Ishq'. The movie is scheduled to release on July 10. Directed by debutant director Sabir Khan, Akshay says that he likes working with first-time directors. "I have always delivered blockbusters with first-time directors. There's a greed for work in them and they try to bring new things in order to bring out their best. I've worked with Abbas-Mustan and Vipul Shah when they were just starting out. Undoubtedly, Sabir has done a brilliant job and Sajid Nadiadwala (producer) and I have been a friend for a long time. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this film," he says.
While Akshay has shot several action scenes with Hollywood actors Sylvester Stallone and Brandon Routh in the film, he says the film is actually a romantic comedy. "It's not an action film. I play the role of an Indian stuntman who takes Hollywood by storm. As he builds a career there, he also tries to find true love. The character does have a few things he wants in a woman, so he is very choosy," he says. After the shooting ended, what impressed Akshay the most was the Hollywood style of working. "They secure their workers. An elaborate agreement is signed to avoid complications. Their sets have all the safety measures. In India, when we are asked to jump we do it without thinking. I have learnt the hard way here, but then it has also made me bold and tough," he says.
The actor has a long and busy year ahead and 'Kambakkht Ishq' is just the beginning. He will be busy working and traveling nonstop. He has just finished shooting for the second season of 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' recently in South Africa. In addition, he has also completed the shooting for 'De Dhana Dan' and he is currently shooting for Vipul Shah's 'Fast Forward' with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Karjat. After that, he will start shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala's 'House Full'.
