Happy maintaining a low profile, Rajeev Khandelwal tells TOI that being choosy doesn''t make him insecure since no one in the film industry can

feel secure at any stage in life.

Post the success of Aamir, you don''t exactly seem to have been on a signing spree...

I am just being myself and still following my heart. I never get swayed with momentary success since I don''t believe in making hay while the sun shines. I would rather work towards attaining success. As of now, I have completed shooting for Peter Gaya Kaam Se and have just one film in hand which is tentatively titled Return Gift. The ways of the bureaucratic world is the premise for Return Gift. It''s a human story, very different from Peter... and Aamir, in terms of my character and the essence of the film.

Are you attracted more towards offbeat films?

I want to do projects that have a shelf value. Aamir, for me, was a commercial film though it wasn''t released commercially. I remember watching it for weeks at the theatres. If you ask me to define commercial cinema, it is something that keeps you rivetted to the screen. Peter... is a contemporary film where I play a biker. But if commercial means an insensitive, mindless venture, then I wouldn''t want to be a part of the same.

Aren''t you insecure considering that being so choosy might have its repercussions too?

More than security, I look for contentment. I don''t think anyone can feel secure at any stage. I''m earning decently well to support myself and my family. I might love luxury but I like to look at life with luxury.

What exactly do you look for in a script?

Frankly speaking, there are no parameters to determine which project I should take up. I follow my instincts. I know what I don''t want to do. The project has to excite me. The soul of the film, the character, the
setting and the language '" everything contributes. Basically, the venture has to be high in content.

Are you content keeping a low profile?

I'm not very comfortable seeing myself splashed over magazines, glossies or channels. I'd rather let my work speak for myself. I'm a people's person and am comfortable living a commoner''s life.

Certainly it must not have been comforting when rumourmills suggested that Minissha Lamba had requested you to be replaced with a more popular face in a certain Balaji film?

I don''t have any clue since I haven''t been approached for any such film.

{This has to be the joke of the millenium.....Rajeev being approached as the leading man for Ekta's film😲....Ya Right !! And M the Queen of England....He would quit Bollywood than sign her film...And she would stop making films than ask him to work for her film}

{Minisha Lamba wants to work with who?? Wud SRK /Hritik/Amitabh suffice?? Or do we need to go pleading on our knee's to Keanu Reeves/Tom Cruise/Johny Depp, coz anyone less wudnt please your highness....How many films of yours have worked again, mam? I hope you are not counting on that one Yashraj film which u got, thanx to Amrita Rao turning down the film coz of a kissing scene😆 Wrong actress choice to spread rumours....Media shud create believable rumours 😆😆}

It was also reported that you had been approached to host the Indian version of the Moment of Truth on television...
I''ve been considering the offer for Sach Ka Samna. Nothing has been finalised as yet.

What do you have to say about the buzz of you bagging Chenab Gandhi?

It is Sanjay Leela Bhansali''s film and when the time comes, I''m sure he will make the final announcement. Till that happens, let''s not indulge in speculation. As of now, I don''t know who is doing Chenab Gandhi.

{Hmm......I heard an interview of his saying "many actors have been approached by SLB for Chenab Gandhi and lets just say...m one of them....How cute😳 !!" }

Finally, do you harbour any directorial ambitions?

I would love to write and direct sometime in future.

{To the uninitiated ...he was initially a documentary film maker and has made many documentaries on the indian army and other social causes...but when he went to channels to show give his documentaries...They told him wat are u doing directing...U shud b in front of the camera😆...}

I'm still surprised this documentary dude did Kahin to Hoga. No wonder he got sick of Kekta Mai and left it. He is a documentary filmmaker at heart and his roles in films reflect that. Good going! I hope he remains selective.

But not at the cost of having him play an Extra piece of furniture in the flick....Isse acha...he is better off doing path-breaking films with unknown names ...A...La ..."Aamir"😳 !

Hopefully , its a important role....chances of that are less coz it has Amitabh in it and Vidya...!

But I know he'll sign it ONLY if its worth !!😳

i like this guy, never watched him on television but he had tremendous screen presence in aamir, actually he was def the best debut last year..but oh well, that category is dominated by star kids.

hopefully he gets the success and recognition that he deserves.
