Salman Khan, who has yet to begin shooting for the 14 episodes of Dus Ka Dum's season 2, returned to Mumbai from London on May 20 (2009), explaining why DKD's shooting has been delayed.
There have been countless rumours in connection to Dus Ka Dum surrounding the actor- from reasons for his shoot being postponed to him not pulling strings to get his filmy friends to appear as celeb contestants on the reality show.
In this interview, the outspoken Khan clears the air about all these reports, admits to his pay cut for DKD 2 and thrashes the media for their irresponsible reporting.
Has your pay increased as compared to last season?
Why did you take up the offer then?
I was offered big money for the first season and I started enjoying doing the show. I love to interact with people and audiences who watched me liked the show as well. So, this is why I agreed to do it again, even though I took a pay cut because of recession.
Will we get to know more about you through this season?
I've always answered all sorts of questions when I was on the show, no matter who has asked me or what they have asked.
Are you prepared to answer the recurring query about your marriage?
I have not thought of what answer to give. I will though and I'll tell it to whoever asks me on the show.
Which celebs do you want to appear on DKD 2?
Whoever Sony calls, I will welcome them. Personally, I would like Govinda, Sunny (Deol) and Sanju (Dutt) to come. These guys would make the show very interesting. Sunny has that charming smile, Sanju has his own style. As for women, I seriously want Madhuri (Dixit) and Sridevi to make an appearance. However, I came to know today that Karishma and Kareena Kapoor will be the first celebrity guests.
Aren't you planning on helping Sony out by inviting a few of your filmy friends?
There is no controversy regarding me not inviting my friends. When I do, they come over and have a blast. However, this is something that I want Sony to do; they too have taken it upon themselves. For example, if somebody's movie is releasing, they will be guests on DKD, publicising the film.
So none of your pals at all then?
This time, Sony is taking care of all the celebs coming on the show. There are only a few friends left this year, so whoever is there, I will try and get them to make an appearance.
I do not know how they would agree to appear on the show. If I was asked to come on such a show I would have declined. If I did agree, it would only be to raise money for my organisation Being Human. Initially, I didn't want any celebrities on the show. But then I realised that the money is going to charitable organisations. For example, when a regular contestant takes part, they get to keep their winnings. But celebrity contestants donate it to those in need. Also, their presence increases TRPs.
What changes can we expect on the new DKD?
It will be the same as last year. I will treat the contestants as my guests, like I do at my home; they should feel comfortable. I never do any sort of rehearsals, I just read the questions. How I react depends on how they react. So far, there has only been love and respect on the show. Though, if anyone wants fights or anything they should tell me, I'll do it. But then, they will have to be the one appearing on the show for that episode.
And there won't be a new look either?
I'm going to chapofy the same look I had last year. I loved it!
What homework are you doing for season 2?
I have passed out of school many years ago; I do not need to do homework to prepare myself. Stand in front of me now and I'll be ready to play the game here too. I am like this in real life and I am exactly the same on the show.
What do you like to watch on TV?
I miss the shows that used to air on DD. Those shows knew the limit. I feel that even films should follow those rules; nothing should be vulgar. Just because the younger generation is going modern ho gaye hai, it doesn't mean that we should forget our traditions. Being Western is not modern. That's why my films are the kind that everyone can watch; even kids and grandparents. I watch everything on TV. I tend to get stuck on some Raj TV or something. Though I do not understand the lingo, I like their dancing style. If someone changes the channel, I take the remote and change it back!
After season 2 wraps up, would you be open to a season 3 or even 4?
The second season will air for 14 weeks. If we will get good response, we will make a 3rd and 4th season. I like the show and do not get bored of it. The whole atmosphere, the reactions, they're all great. And there is no one who can do a better job of hosting Dus Ka Dum than me.
Viewers would certainly like to see more seasons…
God has been very kind to me. I do not know what quality I have that makes people love me and the day I come to know I will try and overdo it.
What were your favourite moments on DKD's season 1?
The episodes that I enjoyed were my first episode with Akshita, the one with the BMC worker, the show with the girl who got married against her parents' wishes and whose parents then accepted her husband on the show, Laxmi eunuch's episode; the whole season!
And which were your favourite celeb episodes last year?
Aamir's (Khan) and Jeetuji's (Jeetendra) episodes were the best ones.
Dus Ka Dum 2 will begin soon. But unlike last year, when the show aired twice a week (Fridays and Saturdays at 9pm), DKD 2 will now air only on Saturdays.
