And now Bebo to play a politician
POLITICS is the new flavour of Bollywood this year. Or how else do you explain the fact that most glam girls in the industry are taking up roles of politicians.
Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu and Sushmita Sen are already preparing to play real- life politicians in different projects, and the latest addition to the list is Kareena Kapoor.
Kareena is set to join the political bandwagon in Sudhir Mishra's upcoming project, Dhruv . Filmmaker Mishra feels only Kareena can do justice to the "strong role" in his film.
" Bebo's role goes through lot of variations. Dhruv shows how her character becomes a politician from an ordinary girl, who is the daughter of a police commissioner. The film chronicles how Kareena's character is sucked into the world of power," says Mishra, who worked with the actress in Chameli . Mishra's film also stars Farhan Akhtar and Chitrangada Singh. " No one has tapped Kareena's acting potential yet. She is a strong actor with a tremendous instinct. I have got a dream star cast for my film," adds Mishra.
It all started with Katrina agreeing to play a strong-willed politician in Prakash Jha's forthcoming film, Rajneeti. The buzz suggests Kat plays a character inspired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. What's interesting is the film's story also resembles Sonia's life. Kat's character takes over her husband's political career after his sudden death and then goes on to become a huge political figure.
For the role, Katrina has undergone voice modulation classes since she "needs to speak in a certain way towards the end of the film." In fact, Jha is going a step further by choosing even the fabrics for the clothes for Kat's character.
It's not just Katrina. Bipasha has also put her best foot forward for Rahul Dholakia's Lamhaa. It's widely believed that Bips' character is inspired from Kashmiri leader and Dukhtaran-e-Millat chairperson Asiya Andrabi.
Andrabi, as per reports, has voiced her displeasure about Bipasha portraying her life. The leader stated she doesn't want to see her character played by a woman who prefers to be seminude most of the times.
"Bollywood actresses are looking for new challenges and if they find new and exciting projects, it hardly matters if the role is of a politician. It's a good sign for the film industry," says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
There's more. As reported earlier by MAIL TODAY, Sushmita is also waiting for a clearance from the Pakistan People's Party to play slain Pakistani leader and ex- Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in a biopic.
"I am keen on playing the role. The producers are waiting for a clearance from the Pakistan People's Party (Bhutto's party). Once we get the go-ahead, we will start the movie," Sushmita had told the reporter. Well, it looks like Bollywood is set to add a new twist in the political tale.
