Billu Barber - Shaved at the Box Office

16 Feb, 2009 Bollywood, Box Office

Folks, God Exists.

Yes, he sure does.

Bollywood fans, who routinely come in their pants at the mere mention of Shahrukh Khan's name, have not merely rejected the Billu Barber crap show but shown it their middle finger, going by boxofficemojo's studio estimates.

Studio estimates provided by boxofficemojo show that Billu Barber grosssed a mere $512,124 in its opening three-day weekend at the U.S. box office.

Even Akshay Kumar's pathetic piece of shit Chandni Chowk to China and Abhishek Bachchan's junk Sarkar Raj fared better in the opening weekend. Shameful.

If Billu Barber fails at the box office, it'll be another blow for the Bollywood distributor Eros International, which has already suffered many blows lately.

Here are the Billu Barber estimates for the opening weekend and the comparison with a few other prominent Bollywood movies:

Folks, Billu Barber is crap. We said that on Friday and we say that again on Monday. No ifs and buts.

Describing Billu Barber as a Triumph of Mediocrity, SearchIndia.com wrote in the review:

There's absolutely no reason to see this piece of crap a.k.a. Billu Barber unless money is burning a hole in your pocket, time hangs too heavily on your hands or you come in your pants at the mere mention of Shahrukh Khan's name (like the people in the Budbuda village in which this movie is set).

That trash like Billu Barber continues to be made and, worse, released in theatres around the word is a testament to the incredible mediocrity and utter shamelessness pervading Bollywood today.

Silly Exercise
Directed by a clueless dodo called Priyadarshan, Billu Barber is a silly movie with a cast of buffoons (with the sole exception of Irrfan Khan) making monkeys of themselves and the audience.

First LUCK BY CHANCE, which starred Hrithik Roshan in an extended cameo. Now BILLU, which stars Shah Rukh Khan in an extended special appearance. Compare it with a KRRISH or an OM SHANTI OM, which were riding on the respective stars' popularity. It is evident that the viewer of today can segregate a special appearance and a full-fledged role.

Talking of LUCK BY CHANCE and BILLU, the viewers knew, much before their release, that the films belonged to other actors [Farhan Akhtar and Irrfan Khan, respectively] and that's one of the reasons why the two films didn't fetch a thunderous start, something that you generally expect from an SRK or a Hrithik Roshan starrer.

A similar trend was noticed in the case of BILLU, which had a slow Friday, a robust Saturday and an excellent Sunday.
SRK discussed the price he has sold BILLU at, on my show -- Rs. 35 cr. + Rs. 2 cr. for promotion -- which means that the price is below Rs. 40 cr., definitely not Rs. 50 cr. [a few badly informed sources have been spreading this lie]. One is curious to know if the India theatrical business coupled with the revenue generated from Overseas [good], Satellite and Home Video would ensure recovery for the investors.

BILLU is a well-made film and the general feedback is very positive, so let's see if there's an escalation in business in days to come. Let's wait for a few days more before we pass judgement!

Decent opener!

- By Taran Adarsh, February 18, 2009 - 09:20 IST

BILLU has done favorable business in the international markets. Of course, the presence of Shah Rukh Khan did enhance its prospects. The opening weekend is quite good in U.K. and America, but plain average in Australia. The film has touched almost Rs. 5 crores from these three markets… SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE continues to go from strength to strength in U.S. [$ 88 million], U.K. [ 20 million] and Australia [Aus $ 11.8 million]. Superb!

U.K. BOX-OFFICE

Weekend: February 13 - 16, 2009.
Note:- The Monday figures have been included with the weekend figures. Hence, the collections are of 4 days.

BILLU has debuted at No. 14 position. In its opening weekend, the film has collected 2,79,448 [approx. Rs. 1.95 crores] on 53 screens, with the per screen average working out to 5,273.

find me ONE post of mine that as a newbie i thrashed or abused taran adarsh...
and if you cant find one---then DO NOT quote me...make a separate post because I have never thrashed him...
BOXOFFICEindia cites rab ne as being a blockbuster so really taran had no choice but to admit to it--and that he did--BUT i have never thrashed him😕😡
and really i compared taran to boxofficemojo (which is oh-so-smart isnt'it😕😕) and search india--my my my how realiable these two sites are---wouldn't you rather wait for boxofficeindia to give a verdict--its authentic and acording to it even the so called "sucessful" dostana did just average business)

^^^ ohh and might i add that in india the worldwide successful SLUMDOG millionaire that has won best film at the Globes, SAG, BAFTA and is nominated for the oscars just did average business...
now does that take away from SM--nope....so before raising fingers at the overseas market perhaps this should also be taken into account
