Cops confirm Slumdog... boy Salim is safe

Mumbai: Mohammed Azharuddin, who plays the youngest Salim in the Oscar-nominated Slumdog Millionaire has been reported missing, the complaint filed by a former civic corporator from Mumbai

Azharuddin's family is based in the slum in Behrampada. They have not been home for a few days, but police say that's because they are in Hyderabad, visiting relatives.

"There is no question of registering this complaint," says DCP, Zone VIII, Nisar Tamboli.

But Nicholas Almeida who filed the complaint says he looked for Azharuddin for three days before suspecting the film's makers could have had something to do with the disappearance.

Almeida had earlier filed a petition in court against Slumdog Millionaire saying that the word 'Slumdog' was derogatory.

"I don't believe he is fine, I spoke to the neighbors they said that some man had asked him to come with him somewhere," says Former civic corporator, Nicholas Almeida.

Almeida now says he wants the police to give him a written assurance that Salim has been traced.
