Will second jhustju on Sparsh and Bhoomika. Other films I would add would be Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Aandhi, Kaagaz Ke Phool, The Blue Umbrella, Aarth, Deewar, and that is all I can say for now. It looks like I am in a very sappy mood right now.

This is a good topic, Preethi_p_r, but most people are going to name movies like KKHH and DDLJ or Ishq Vishq (no offense dude) as "par excellence" just like someone called Lagaan the worst movie made in India in some thread on here.

I am all for differing opinions but there should come a time when you can look at things objectively.
IF confuzzles me!
Sorry...I'm in a rant mood today.😆

I completely understand what your saying . I too am in a different league where movies like Shawshank redemption , mausam, nayagan , swades etc etc are the ones that appeal to me than the ones like DDLJ . I did like DDLJ too but there are movies which take you to a different feeling and DDLJ dint make me feel that way .
But anyway its a diverse world and people have different choices and I appreciate the diversity 😊 . The post is just to share some movies which always linger somewhere deep down. Wish more directors made my kind of movies 😍 , i know now m sounding wee bit selfish 😆😆😆.

'Sparsh' is a movie I find par excellence. In comparison to TZP or Black, there is a movie which shows reality without being manipulative.

It is sad that the 2000s will be known for over-dramatic plots and vibrant colors rather than originality courtesy SLB and KJo. I would wish for us to go back to good cinema which is also real.

Barjatyas used to make good films without their Prems and melodrama. Hope they can go back to their roots.

Saawariya and Ghajini for sure!
this dialouge in saawariya is so beautiful:
"Kehte hain mil jaaye tumhe tumhari mohabaat.. toh maanlo khuda tum par mehrbaan ho gaya.. agar na mile toh jaan lo khuda aur tum ek jaan ho gaye.."

Maya, i agree with you. 2000s is the decade of manipulative movies. The other ones I highly recommend are:
Katha- OMG such a simple movie and yet SO well made.
Mandi - You have to watch this movie for Shabana
Mirch Masala
and my all time favorite Jaane Bhi Do yaaron. This movie has to be one of the best satire movies of all time!
nadiya ke paar is the original Hum Aapke Kaun sans the loud music dance and what not.
Ijazat.
Now I am just sad since such movies are not made any more
