After a brilliant first week, thanks to the response in the North Indian states and the overseas market, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has now moved on to an equally good second week. The film reportedly has had collections worth Rs 14 cr taking its 10 days' net collections to Rs 55 crore. But now with Ghajini releasing just two days from now, the attention has somewhat shifted.
Ghajini - A Box Office history in the making?
With Ghajini's release preponed by a day to December 24, the film has managed a eight-day first week like Golmaal Returns and Fashion earlier this year. All the paid preview shows across the nation on Wednesday have filled up in less than an hour of the counters opening. With December 25 being a holiday (Christmas Day), the shows on that day too have filled up.
Complete Cinema's Atul Mohan feels, "The film is going to rewrite box office history as far as the openings are concerned. It's also helping the film to achieve the record number of prints it is releasing with. Ghajini is an action thriller, a genre which generally attracts the masses more than the families but with the hype that Aamir has managed to create and of course the promos, both families as well as the masses desperately want to watch it as soon as they can."
A senior trade analyst predicts, "At least Rs 55- 60 crore net gross is expected from the eight day first week of Ghajini. Even if the film turns out to be a turkey, with the super strong opening that it is all set to get, the rights holders Studio 18 need not have a single reason for worry. If one decides to compare it with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, then in the music department, Rab Ne has scored over Ghajini but despite that this masala film is going to do much more business than the King Khan starrer. The collections of this film should probably prove who the real number one is between the two Khans - Aamir or Shah Rukh?"
Advance bookings at PVR, BIG Cinemas, Cinemax, Spice and Fun have all been very good. Even single screen halls like Delite in Delhi, Eros and Chitra in Mumbai are showing 100 per cent bookings.
