Shah Rukh Khan celebrates his 43 birthday tomorrow but wife Gauri Khan is hosting a party tonight to ring in his birthday. Invites have already been sent out to the select few, most of who are the usual suspects like Farah Khan, Shirish Kunder, Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal and wife Meher, Sajid Khan, Chunky Pandey and wife Bhavna, and of course Salman Khan''s brothers.
Surprisingly, even though Salman Khan has naturally been left out, brother Arbaaz and Sohail have been invited along with their wives, Malaika and Seema.
But more on SRK. There is not much that remains to be said about the man. His is a success story which has all the masala of a potboiler Hindi movie. He has had his share of struggles and failures but once he managed to woo Dame Fortune, she seems to have stuck to him like glue.
This year has been one of the leaner years for him, but he still seems to be everywhere. If not on the big screen, the actor is today a very popular face on the smaller screen, all due to the innumerable number of ads and products that he endorses. The actor has not been content with just being a star; he has learnt to market himself well.
Today SRK sells. So even if he dances at wedding receptions, he still commands an immense mass appeal which cuts across all sections of society. Amitabh Bachchan and SRK, these are the two Hindi film stars, who have managed to build such an enduring appeal for themselves.
Of course, while the Big B has proved himself to be a great actor as well, SRK is yet to touch those heights as an actor, though he has had his moments with films like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Swades and Chak De India.
He has his favourites and rarely deviates from the formula, though he has recently announced that he has put to rest the character of Raj Malhotra and would now like to do mature roles. So this maybe goodbye to Raj Malhotra, the rich Punjabi NRI lover boy of films made by his good friends Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar.
Maybe the actor in him will finally surface and stun us with his performance in many more films to come. Movietalkies.com would like to wish SRK a very happy birthday!
