Kinng Kumar wields the microphone to add to our woes
Kinng Kumar is getting bolder by the day. From being the undisputed king of Bollywood to even making Superman Brandon Routh dance to his tunes in his new film, 'Kambakht Ishq' which has a bevy of Hollywood's wastrels such as Denise Richards and Stallone in it.
Seems this Kumar will stop at nothing to insure that the Khans never ever make the claim of being on top for as long as he is around.
What's his strategy? He stars in atleast 4 films a year, and each one comes within 3 months of each other's expiry date. So that works out to about exactly how much time he would need to promote the film via gossip, philandering, promos, and scene cutting (of other actors in the film).
Next, he covers all genres in one film itself to provide wholesale masala entertainment which the junta wants.
There's comedy, action, romance, you name it. He's mastering it all with his 'free style' acting method. Anything goes.
And if you thought what else can he offer, he's gone ahead and sung a whole ditty-dotty title track for 'Chandni Chowk to China'.
Initially, I wasn't surprised because he has done some mindless rap for 'Singh is Kinng'. And desi rap is no sing song, its pretty much nursery rhyme.
It's understood that the film is part biography of his life from Chandni Chowk to Bangkok, where he worked as a waiter before he came back to make it big in B-town.
But singing about it, is taking your misery too far to inflict on us audience. Given that Kinng Kumar has perhaps the weakest sounding squeaky voice any hero has had in the industry in the last decade. I have often wondered how similar his voice is to the tweety duck in her bath tub. Tweet tweet!
But if Himess (who we're tired of using as a bad benchmark) can sing, so can wood. This is no surprise that before Akshay Kumar hit a pot of gold at the other end of the rainbow; he was pretty much considered a log of wood actor.
He's hit that phase, when actors give hits irrespective of any novelty, when just seeing them on-screen is all that fans want. It's called the Rajendra Kumar syndrome. No one remembers him or his films, but he had a golden jubilee run so long that Bollywood woke up to mediocre worship and has never recovered since.
Akshay knows how to play this game. Never let the audience forget you. Out of sight means out of mind, and he is never out of sight. Every three months he smashes your screen and before you can shout foul, his film is declared a hit. Yes, while the audience is taking a nap inside the theatres.
Salman and Aamir have been favoring Akshay Kumar in their war against Shahrukh Khan. Salman has gone on record to say that the only threat to Shahrukh Khan right now is Akshay Kumar and Aamir is on Akshay's side too, having approved of the tongue-in-cheek Amul campaign where the Khans are shown 'buttering' Akki di roti.
I will have to initiate my own campaign to de-throne this Kinng. What is it that will distract this guy? What could stop him? The search has begun...
