[edit] Family and early life
Saif Ali Khan was born into the family of the nawabs of Pataudi. His grandfather, Iftikaar Ali Khan Pataudi, was the Nawab of Pataudi as well as an accomplished cricketer who played for England and then for India as the captain of the team. His father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, like Nawab of Patuadi Sr., was not only the nawab of Pataudi but also a former captain of the Indian cricket team. His mother, Sharmila Tagore, is a Bengali Indian film actress of note, head of the Indian film censorship board, and a relative of the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore [1] [2]. Saif is also related to the late Nafisa Joseph. His sister is actress Soha Ali Khan.

He followed in his father's footsteps by being educated at Winchester College, a famous independent school for boys in Winchester, England.

[edit] Film Career
Saif was meant to make his debut in Bekhudi (1991) opposite Kajol but the film took off without him [3].

He made his Bollywood debut in the 1992 film Parampara. For his next film Aashiq Awara (1993) he won the Filmfare Best Debut Award. His breakthrough role came in 1994 with Yeh Dillagi starring opposite Kajol and Akshay Kumar which was his first major hit [4]. Khan went on to star in many films but they failed at the box office. He only had success with multi-starrer hits like Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) [5], Kachche Dhaage (1999) and Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United (1999) [6]. After some box office failures he had a hit with the film Kya Kehna (2000) [7].

His acting career, more or less, went through a relative slump until 2001, when he was cast in Farhan Akhtar's hit film, Dil Chahta Hai [8]. He received much acclaim for his role as Sameer with critic Taran Adarsh calling it his career-best performance [9]. The success of this film firmly established Saif as one of the industry's most bankable stars [10].

He has since had many box office successes such as Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) [11], Hum Tum (2004) [12] and Salaam Namaste (2005) [13] [14]. He won lots of critical acclaim for his performance in a rare negative role for the film Ek Hasina Thi (2004) [15] and for Parineeta (2005). His performance in Hum Tum won him the National Film Award for Best Actor [16].

In 2006 Khan played the lead role in the offbeat English-language film Being Cyrus and bagged enormous acclaim for his villainous role in the recently released adaptation of Shakespeare's ';Othello';Omkara [17]. He recently won the Star Screen Award Best Villain for his performance [18].

Saif was part of a troupe that included Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal and Priyanka Chopra, which went on the Temptations 2004 world tour. The tour was a huge international and commercial success. [19]. He also appeared along with various other Bollywood actors at the Closing Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, as part of a performance showcasing Indian culture, on behalf of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Delhi [20].

The upcoming Vidhu Vinod Chopra film, Eklavya: The Royal Guard, will bring him and his mother together for the second time. They will share screen space for the first time since Aashiq Awara. He will also be sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time.

[edit] Personal life
He married actress Amrita Singh in October 1991. They separated in 2004. They have two children, a daughter named Sara and a son named Ibrahim, both of whom live with their mother [21]. He is currently dating Rosa, an italian "model". Khan currently lives in Mumbai [22]

Saif Ali Khan Biography
On 16th August 1970, Saif Ali Khan was born to India's two noted personalities, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, former captain of Indian cricket team, and erstwhile actress Sharmila Tagore.

Out of the two choices of being an actor or a cricketer, Saif opted acting as his profession. He started his Bollywood innings in 1993 with Aashiq Awara, the film turned out to be a great success and made Saif an overnight star.

But things didn't turn out to be so easy for the upcoming actor. After a hit Saif had to face series of failures and many started thinking that he was wrong in choosing acting as a career option.

But 2001 proved to be a lucky year for him. Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hai gave him a new platform and today Saif is considered one of the most bankable stars in the film industry.

'Of course,I was worried about Saif!'
By: Vickey Lalwani

Amrita Singh
Amrita Singh is in no mood to talk about her former husband Saif Ali Khan, who is currently under observation at Lilavati hospital after he complained of chest pain on Sunday evening.

After several calls that were diverted to her voice mail, Amrita finally reverted back.

She started off by saying, "Saif is fine. There is nothing wrong with him.

He is under medical observation but will soon be out of hospital."

The actress claimed she had paid the actor a visit at the hospital. "I don't give a damn if people are saying that I didn't go to see jim."

When asked if she managed to have a few words with Saif, she said, "I don't want to talk about it. My kids (Sara and Ibrahim) were extremely worried about their father, but now that they have met him they are happy.

As for me, like every other person I too got scared when I heard about Saif's chest pain and sudden hospitalisation; I am no exception," she added.

How did she learn about Saif's health problem on Sunday? To this, Amrita maintains a stony silence. Furthermore, when asked about the reason for Saif's
illness, the actress preferred to remain tight-lipped.

Saif suffers a Heart attack!

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who was rushed to a city hospital here Sunday evening after complaining of chest pain, is better and recovering from severe exertion, hospital sources said Monday.

"Saif Ali is out of danger, but will be kept under observation for the next two days, said Lilavati Hospital dean N. Trivedi.

Saif, 36, was rushed to Lilavati Hospital Sunday evening after suffering a "suspected" mild heart attack. He was admitted to the intensive care unit and underwent an ECG, which had shown that he had irregular heartbeat.

"A team led by cardiologist Vivek Mehan immediately performed an angiography but found him to be stable," Trivedi said.

Saif had early Sunday morning returned from a tour of South Africa and had rehearsed for a performance at a function earlier in the day. He complained of chest pain at about 5 p.m. when he was heading for the evening's Stardust Awards at the Bandra-Kurla Complex.

Saif was to have received the award for best actor in a negative role for "Omkara", which brought him much critical acclaim when it was released last year.

Saif's sister actor Soha said:" Saif had been working day and night and was over-exerted."

"He returned from South Africa at 1.30 a.m. Sunday and rushed to the MMRDA grounds at the Bandra-Kurla Complex to practice for last night's Stardust Awards," Soha told.

But soon news of Saif's heart attack spread and several Bollywood biggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, who were present at the awards function, rushed to the hospital to see him. Others like Fardeen Khan, Preity Zinta, Kunal Kohli and Jackie Shroff followed.

Saif & Amrita: A 'Rosy' picture ahead!

Tough times bring people closer. Sometimes old buddies re-bond after years, at times estranged lovers rekindle the sparks. Then at times ex-married couples find themselves comfy in each other's company all over again. That's exactly what's happening with Saif and ex-wife, Amrita Singh. She's been so worried and concerned about his recent chest pain attack that took a toll on him that she's been visiting him frequently at the hospital. In fact, she's been answering phone calls on the hotline, considering there are hundreds of well-wishers calling in everyday to find about the Khan lad. Amrita's sure being a real sweetheart, but boy, we think he better handle all this attention 'Saif'ly, if he really wants a 'Rosy' life ahead that is.
