S R K's Casablanca!!

Shah Rukh Khan, who has played different characters with lan on the silver screen, is all set to essay the role of flamboyant Rick Blaine that Humphrey Bogart had played in the English classic ' Casablanca.' The English classic is being adapted in Hindi by the national award winning filmmaker Rajeevnath and the script for the same has already been prepared by the internationally acclaimed filmmaker. In the view of the filmmaker, only Shah Rukh Khan fits the bill to play the character of Rick in the remake of the 1942 classic.

As Rajeevnath says, ' I think Shah Rukh suits the role. I intend meeting him soon to narrate my subject and hope to convince him to do my project. I have already signed A R Rahman to compose the music for the film which I intend to shoot in Andaman Islands and Shimla towards the end of this year.'

The filmmaker is fascinated with ' Casablanca' as it has defied classification in any category for the last five decades and at best can be called a romantic thriller with a difference. Currently, Rajeevnath is busy with releasing plans of his film ' Anubhav' which has in its cast Sanjay Suri, Gul Panag and Raj Zutshi besides others.

Hrithik and Khans join hands!

Those Who Can Do Comedy, Can't Act : SRK

In a way, it was a reunion for Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla when they shared the stage at the Star Gold Comedy Honours 2007 event, held in Mumbai on Sunday, 29 April.

SRK was there to present a special recognition award to Juhi for her comic excellence. He spoke to Nayan Rao of Rediff about his views on parallel cinema, and his take on comedy films.

This is the first time that such an event based on comedy is taking place and you're attending it. What's your take on it?

According to me, those who can't do comedy simply cannot act or perform. My own favourite comedians are Peter Sellers, Johnny Lever and Govinda, who are well-versed with its nuances. Among the actresses, Juhi Chawla and Sridevi have perfect comic timing. We should understand that comedy is one of the most important aspects of acting.

When will viewers get to see Juhi and you together in films again?

Right now, I have not signed any film with her but would love to work with her again. She is my favourite actress. We are doing a guest appearance in a film called Bhootnath.

You have this image of loverboy attached to you. Have you ever wished that sometime, you were also dubbed a good comedian?

I have a sense of humour. Normally, when you do a romantic film or a love story like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, it has its own dose of comedy. I don't know much about this image of mine. Our films are mostly like a variety show. You have to have a bit of comedy, bit of romance, bit of action... So I think I had my fill of it though I don't think I am fantastic at comedy. I am alright.

The film industry always prefers following a trend. Currently, the trend is comedy. How long will it last?

I think comedy will never lose its place. From films like Jane Bhi Do Yaaron to Padosan to films like Bhoot Bangla, comedies have always been there. I have heard Bheja Fry is doing very well as well as Khosla Ka Ghosla.

You have always worked with big banners. When will we get to see you doing parallel or art cinema, which you dabbled in the initial phase of your career?

I don't work with big banners; I only work with directors and if they happen to be associated with big banners, I can't help it. The films offered to me should make me interested, so it's not about doing parallel films.

I am not going to do films just because it's an art film. If I feel like I will do it. For example, Chak De India is a serious subject like Swades. He became a big name after Lagaan but Ashu is an old friend of mine and we have been discussing films together. So for me, it is not important that I only do big producers' films or parallel films. If I like the story, I will do it.

You are here to present an award to Juhi Chawla, how do you feel being on the other side of the fence?

I am very, very honoured. I think I became an actor looking at actors like Juhi and Aamir Khan, when I came to Bombay and they all are wonderful actors.

A few days' ago, a Delhi High Court ordered a probe in response to a PIL filed on celebrities winning huge sum of money at Kaun Banega Crorepati. What's your take on it?

Everybody has a right to question. There is a PIL and I am sure Star TV will have their own audits and methodology. This happens every time KBC comes on air. I don't think it's true at all. I don't exactly know what the PIL is but Star TV will make sure that they give their audit reports. Everybody has a right to present their case and somebody has done it. It's alright.

Sushmita in Don sequel

SRK and Farhan Akhtar have already planned the sequel to their version of Don. Apart from the original cast, it has been learnt that Sushmita Sen has been roped in for the film to play the leading lady in place of Priyanka Chopra. Lets wait and watch for the official announcement.

Kkkk...King Khan arrives tomorrow

The host of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Shahrukh Khan will arrive in Bahrain tomorrow. This is the star's first visit to Bahrain.

Sources told the Tribune that the Bollywood superstar on arrival would be whisked away in the latest model BMW 745 il.

Shahrukh will be flying into Bahrain from Qatar but would leave for Mumbai after a stay of few hours in the Kingdom.

When in Bahrain, Shahrukh will interact with selected high-profile VIP customers and winners of an SMS contest.

The Bollywood superstar has a huge international fan. In Bahrain, his fans include a sizeable chunk of the Bahraini community.

Recently, King Khan, as Shahrukh is popularly known, took over the famous Kaun Banega Crorepati and has managed to lend a new dimension to the event.

He is the third Indian actor to have his wax image at the wax museum of Madame Tussauds of London. A life-size wax image of the star was unveiled last month at a glitzy red carpet show and included a biopic-documentary on Shahrukh Khan at the unveiling. Shahrukh and his wife Gauri were present at the auspicious event.

Khan has acted in over 60 Bollywood films. The other two wax images of Indian actors were of Bollywood superstars, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.

SRK-Sallu-Sanju: The 'bond' boys!

The Khans (SRK & Salman) have been bonding a lot lately. Whether it's coffee 'n' conversation sessions that run into the wee hours of the night, or starry parties at Shah Rukh's kingly abode – Mannat. Shah Rukh and Sallu seem to be reveling in their renewed friendship, now more than ever before. And there's Sanju who joins this buddy list. "I never get bored of Shah Rukh's company. It's so much fun bonding with him and having him around," says Dutt. Well, the fact that the boys live in close proximity to each other (in Bandra) makes their life easier. Cheers to the new Bandra 'bond' boys in town!

'Om Shanti Om': SRK, Salman, Sanjay, Saif turn on the heat!

Like Subhash Ghai's Karz starring Rishi Kapoor-Simi Garewal which had the popular song 'Om Shanti Om', Farah Khan's 'Om Shanti Om' is also woven around the theme of reincarnation. Obviously, Farah's favourite SRK is in the lead. She's also roped in Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan and Salman Khan for an appearance in the film!

Story: An artist, Om (Shahrukh Khan), who grows up in the seventies, meets the love of his life (Deepika Padukone) and shortly thereafter suffers an untimely demise. He is immediately reincarnated and is haunted by the memories of his past life and love. He attempts to not only solve the mystery of his death, but also reunite with the love of his past life. The problem is that she is now much older than him and does not believe that he is the reincarnation of the man she once loved!

Apparently, the music for the film was to have been composed by A.R. Rahman, but he allegedly wanted 33 percent of the music rights/profits, so T-Series backed out and instead handed over the reins to maestros Vishal-Shekhar. Gulzar has written the lyrics.

Director Farah Khan's husband Shirish Kunder (director of 'Jaan E Mann') will be editing the movie as he did 'Main Hoon Na'. Also, apparently Skakira, who is a big fan of SRK and is acquainted with Farah as a choreographer, is in talks to make an appearance.

The movie introduces supermodel Deepika Padukone as SRK's main love interest. The supporting cast includes Arjun Rampal and Shreyas Talpade. Deepika's debut has received a lot of attention, and all eyes are on her right now. Will she live up to the expectations?

'Om Shanti Om' has been shot at various locations in India and is slated to release sometime in late 2007.
