Sanjay, SRK, Saif Ali, Salman get framed for a special song

In a coup of sorts (and a further proof of 'Khan bonding' post the Rai-Bachchan 'very private' wedding), Bollywood's King Khan—Shah Rukh, has roped in 30 of the country's hottest stars for a special song in his home production 'Om Shanti Om'.

Choreographed by the film's director Farah Khan, this historical party song will have 15 male and 15 female stars, including Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Govinda, Mithun, Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Vidya Balan, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta, Kajol, Karisma Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Tabu, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Malaika Arora Khan and Amrita Arora.

What's also interesting is the fact that well-known fashion designer and stylist Manish Malhotra has designed clothes for all the women, except Preity. Manish obviously is very thrilled with the experience.

He says, "This song will definitely create history. Imagine getting Saif, Sanjay, Salman and SRK in one frame! It's a party scene and I have dressed each of these actresses differently, glamorous nevertheless. Like I have dressed Vidya Balan in a black dress and she looks nothing like her usual self, while Urmila has been given this no jewellery glam look"

However, Manish is more excited about the casting coup. "Last time we had a few stars coming together was for a song in 'Naseeb'. But that is not even quarter of what you will see in this song. This kind of song can happen only perhaps once in 20 years. I truly feel fulfilled in my career after this song, which I'm sure will be remembered for many decades to come," he says.

Manish says one of the highs for him was when Rekha came to his boutique to pick up a saree for the shoot. He says, "I had last designed for Rekhaji in 'Bhoot'. For this song, she came to my store and picked up a gold chantilly saree in which she looked fabulous. I was thrilled to design for Shabanaji too."

Looks like it's going to be one helluva Khan-tastic time!

Farah Khan shoots a song with 29 superstars

If you ask what is common in Manmohan Desai's Naseeb and Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om then the answer would be a song that stars all big personalities of Bollywood.

Farah Khan just finished shooting the title track of her forthcoming film Om Shanti Om. The song has been shot at Film City for over seven days. The situation is that superstar Om Kapoor played by Shah Rukh Khan has won an award and throws a party which is attended by all actors. Farah and Shah Rukh personally invited all the big actors of Bollywood and managed to shoot the song with 29 stars. This is the last song of the film. Om Shanti Om is based on the film industry and spans over two eras.

This will be the first time that Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt will be seen together on screen. Interestingly, Dharmendra arrived after these three finished their shoot, however when they saw Dharmji shoot, the three actors jumped into the frame and started dancing with Dharmji. Jeetendra shook a leg with his son Tusshar for the song. Mithun specially flew down to Mumbai from Hyderabad only to shoot for this song. This song will probably also mark the comeback of Karisma Kapoor to the big screen. She shot for her dance sequence after Tabu and Urmila. Sunil Shetty, who was the villain in Farah's last film Main Hoon Na was slightly apprehensive as he was to dance after Govinda's performance.

The list continues with Bobby Deol, Zayed Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Dino Morea, Ritiesh Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani. The female brigade was represented by Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Kajol, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Lara Dutta, Vidya Balan, Juhi Chawla, Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora.

All the stars who shot for the song thanked by Farah and Shah Rukh in their own special way. They were all gifted a Tag Heuer watch, Nokia phone, Gold coin with Om inscribed on it and a personalised T-shirt with "OSO – You Made It Big" printed on it .

With so many big Bollywood stars coming together for one song, Om Shanti Om definitely has another USP attached to it apart from the star power of Shah Rukh Khan. It now has the entire Bollywood in the film.

SRK is such a Hot property!

Distribution rights for Shah Rukh Khan's films are selling hotter like hot cakes The bid for the distribution rights of his home production, Om Shanti Om, directed by Farah Khan, has touched Rs 55 crore, an unprecedented amount in B-Town.

And this one is a triangular contest between Studio18, Sony and Adlabs, who are doing their best to top this amount.These corporate bodies have approached Shah Rukh for all rights to OSO, including India and overseas distribution along with satellite, audio and home video rights for 10 years.

The amount they are offering him is higher than what Nikhil Advani's Salaam-E-Ishq was paid last year. That was a first of its kind deal at Rs 42 crore. The bid has apparently already touched Rs 55 crore. So even if OSO has been made on a budget of Rs 15 crore, Shah Rukh will make a cool profit of Rs 40 crore. It will be interesting to see whether SRK will choose price over credibility or vice versa.

So why is OSO such hot property? Other than Yash Raj (Chopras) and Dharma (Karan Johar), no other production houses has the power or the moolah to sign Shah Rukh Khan, which is why he rarely works with other banners.

But when a corporate entity that can't sign Shah Rukh gets a readymade SRK film with everything in place, it's like a dream come true. Hence they're more than willing to cough up such extravagant amounts. A Shah Rukh Khan film gives them terrific branding and also makes their stock soar."

Khans plan World Cup party for Bollywood friends

Tomorrow night, Shah Rukh Khan's bungalow Mannat at Bandra will rock in true filmi style.

SRK's lovely wife Gauri, often described as Posh Spice (Mrs David Beckham) among the glamouratti crowd and her friends, is planning a big bash for close friends from the industry.

These Khans don't need an excuse to party, but if there is one, who's complaining! So, the event is being planned as a cricket cheer party for the Australia-Sri Lanka World Cup finals tomorrow night at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

The couple will also celebrate the birthday of Mushtaq Shaikh, their good friend and the author of SRK book Still Reading Shah Rukh. A cake will be cut to bring in Mushtaq's birthday.

The Khans are assured of a packed house.

And guests at Mannat are sure of having great music during the breaks, an elaborate home-cooked dinner, and a gossip session.

A close friend of Gauri's says that the guest list includes Bollywood rockers like Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, Saif Ali Khan, Karan Johar, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia, the lovely Tabu who hardly makes public appearances unless the occasion demands, Raveena Tandon alon with husband anil Thadani, Kajal Anand, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Priyanka Chopra, Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder, and Mushtaq Shaikh amongst others.

"Gauri regularly has girlie bashes with her close friends at Mannat, but this time, the party will be bigger and better. She has taken the initiative to organise the party and has been personally calling up all of SRK's friends. They are wonderful hosts. The setting will be really tasteful but also casual — which sums up Gauri's sense of style, elegant yet informal," says her friend.

All the guests are intense cricket lovers. "With India's exit from the World Cup, the excitement level is a little low. But like SRK always says, 'It's the sporting spirit which counts.' So we will forget our biases and root for the best performer," says the source.

The party begins after 10 pm, when everyone, including Shah Rukh Khan, will wrap up their shoots and hurry to Mannat to let the Saturday night fever begin.

Karan Johar's says his next film will star SRK and will be based on "a very serious topic"

Buzz is that Karan Johar's next film after Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) will reunite Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan after five years (on celluloid, that is).

He has already begun work on the film and although Karan is tight-lipped about Kajol's presence, he doesn't deny it either.

At what stage are you with your next film?

I'm in the middle of scripting.

According to rumours, it is based on racial discrimination and illegal immigration.

(Laughs) It sounds more like a documentary, which I am not making! All I can say is that it's a feature film and will be a departure from what I have done before, and will be based on a serious topic.

I want to challenge myself as a director and that's why I am busy researching and writing the project. But no, it won't be a Fahrenheit 9/11 sort of film.

Your film won't have songs too?

I have never said that there won't be any music in my next film! I can't make a film without music. I met Javedsaab (Akhtar) the other day and he was horrified to learn that my film wouldn't have songs.

I told him, 'Meri itni aukaat nahin, that I can't have music in my films.' I love music. But yes, I am fed up of people dancing to my songs. This time, I want people to sit down and listen to my music, not dance to it.

Hopefully there will still be romance in your next?

Love is a very important part of our lives and an important part of my cinema. Every film of mine has love, and even here I might squeeze it in somewhere.

Love is something I can't run away from, even if I try. It is the solution to most problems.

The buzz is that you are getting Kajol and SRK back together after five years.

We don't know what's going to happen. It's too early to talk about it. Though I am not good at keeping secrets, when the time is right I will talk about it.

Do you give SRK a reading of the script and the role, or is it a given that he'll do your film?

Shah Rukh is my elder brother and Gauri and he are family to me. It's like asking my father (late Yash Johar), 'Papa should I make this film or not?' It's the same thing with Shah Rukh.

When I tell him about my film, he tells me these are the dates and when we can start. That's the perfect understanding we have with each other.

We may live in two separate homes, but our hearts are in the same place and it will always be like that.

When do you plan to start shooting your film?

Koffee With Karan gets over by June, so once I finish the script I should begin by the end of this year or early next year.

Is your next film going to be called Khan?

No. No such title is mine!

After Krrish, all directors want their heroes to play superheroes. Any plans of making SRK a superhero?

Isn't he one already?

Shah Rukh Khan leads Bollywood stars investing megabucks in real estate

27 April 27, 2007 (Sawf News) - Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) has almost completed building the high-rise behind his heritage home Mannat in Mumbai. Other stars making 'home runs' include Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerjee, Priyanka Chopra, Kajol and Ajay Devgun.

Shah Rukh plans to move into a spacious apartment in the high-rise for more comfort and will set up his studio and office there as well. It is well known that SRK has a fetish for a huge personal bathroom where he reads, does his work and seeks a silent haven from his boisterous children. This has been specially provided in his new home!

He will use Mannat only for parties and events. To kick off such events, SRK's wife Gauri has planned a huge World Cup Final party in true filmy style at Mannat this weekend.

Comparing Gauri to Posh Spice, Bombay Times says that the Khans will celebrate the birthday of Mushtaq Shaikh, the author of SRK's coffee table biography as well as the final match between Australia and Sri Lanka on Saturday by entertaining their close friends to a home made feast! The invitees include Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, Saif Ali Khan, Karan Johar, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia, Tabu, Raveena Tandon and Anil Thadani, Priyanka Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh, Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder. There is no prize for guessing who will be left out of this party!

We reminded Farhan, son of legendary Bollywood writer Javed Akhtar, of his desire to make a sequel. He said: "I know I said this, and I will make Don II, after this new project." The 'new project' that Farhan spoke of is a film he has called Voice from the Sky, which he is currently scripting. "I have started work on Voice (though I may later change the name). Right now I am waiting for the release of Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd," Farhan smiled.

Adi back in action

Aditya Chopra is planning to return to direction after a gap of seven years. It will be a full-on action flick starring Shah Rukh Khan

If sources are to be believed, Aditya Chopra is set to get into action. He is all set to surprise fans and detractors with his next directorial venture, which falls under a genre Adi has no experience with - action. So far he has directed two films, DDLJ and Mohabbatein, which was in 2000.

Currently, he is busy working on the script of his next, an action flick starring Shah Rukh Khan.

Says a source from the Yashraj clan, "Aditya Chopra has decided on Shah Rukh Khan as the lead in his next film. Right now, he is working on the script for the same. He wants to make an action-packed film and he has cast his favourite Khan, SRK, to play the lead."

Apparently, the rest of the cast is yet to be finalised by the director for this action flick. There were rumours of Aditya planning to cast Shah Rukh and Abhishek together for his next film. But it has stayed a rumour, for obvious reasons. "So far, Aditya has finalised only on his lead hero and that is Shah Rukh." He adds, "It's definitely going to be a solo hero film."

The director plans to launch the film and begin shooting by the end of this year. "All is set and Adi is planning to start shooting for the film in December. Shah Rukh has already set his dates in December aside for Adi," says our source.

The kind of work he's done, one can only sit back and admire as a layman, forget emulating it. All you can do, after watching masterpieces like Madhumati, Aan and Ganga Jamuna, is get carried away by his brilliant performances. And I am not being humble when I say this, I truly believe it. Although I myself did not grow up on Dilipsaab's films, my dad and mom were avid fans of his, and they used to constantly talk to us about his films. The greatest thing about Dilipsaab's work was that he was clearly ahead of his time. His films are as relevant in today's time as they were then. There have been many other great actors before and after him, but Dilipsaab's style was his own, a truly unique one. If his films had been made in today's times, minus the black-and-white factor, they still would be truly appreciated. I have been in the industry for 17 years, and feel I haven't even come anywhere close to all that he achieved.

On Devdas, the film SRK redid

I cannot even think of a comparison with Dilipsaab. I could never be able to do what he did. Which is why I did not watch the original Devdas before we did the new version. However I did see his film after the new Devdas was released, and all I can say is there's only one Devdas, and that's Dilipsaab. We guys just can't do what he did, it's impossible. I think in my acting abilities, I must be a hundred million years away from Dilipsaab.

On Dilip Kumar, the man

Only one word comes to mind when I think of Dilipsaab: Softness. He is the gentlest human being I have met in my entire life. And he and Sairaji make a totally beautiful couple. I am very close to them, and they treat me like a son. Whenever I meet them, Sairaji ruffles my hair and tells me if they had a son, he would have been just like me. And I am hugely honoured by that compliment. In fact, my parents were very friendly with Dilipsaab, as back then, our houses were located very close to each other in Peshawar (now in Pakistan). One can spend an entire lifetime and not be as gentle a human being as Dilipsaab. He is a shining example in a world where you see so much crassness and vulgarity around you. My greatest wish is that as I grow up, I can be half as gentle and kind as he is.
