SRK's biggest fan? His saasu ma!

Thank you, mother-in-law: Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan

When the camera-shy Savita Chhiba dropped in to watch her son-in-law in action, everyone on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 was surprised.

After all, it's not everyday that Shah Rukh Khan's mother-in-law drops in on him at work.

Gauri Khan's mother, who appeared on KBC3 a week before Women's Day (March 8), says, "It was the first time in my life that I faced the camera that day and I felt extremely shy."

Camera shy

Talking about her experience, Savita says she asked Shah Rukh for permission before she dropped by the set. "My sister, Sharda Gupta, was in town along with her husband.

Both are doctors and love watching Shah Rukh on KBC. I told Shah Rukh that we wanted to come by but I requested him to not ask me any questions as I am very camera shy. It's really difficult for an ordinary person to be unfazed by the spotlight," she admits.

How did she find the show in real life? "I loved it! Sharda loved it too. She was asked to come on the hot seat but declined as we are not used to facing the camera. Even my daughter Gauri doesn't like facing the camera or doing interviews," says Savita.

An avid KBC watcher and SRK fan, Savita says that she hasn't missed a single show ever since Shah Rukh took over as anchor.

"I have watched KBC right from the beginning. Besides, how can I miss any of Shah Rukh's programmes?

I was watching his appearance at Madame Tussaud's wax museum all day on the news on Wednesday. He is on top of the world," she says.

Captive audience

Savita adds that she likes watching KBC3 because of the sheer energy and fun that SRK brings to the show. "All my friends and the people in Delhi are going gaga about Shah Rukh.

He mesmerises people. I guess one of the reasons people love him so much is because he is a very good human being. People from all walks of society love him. My maids and drivers say they don't understand the questions but watch the show because Shah Rukh makes people laugh. They feel he's playing a funny game with the contestants and they laugh along with him."

No competition

As for those comparisons with Amitabh Bachchan, Savita feels it's unfair to compare the veteran actor with her son-in-law. "Shah Rukh has made it so different.

There was never any comparison to start with as both are very good. Mr Bachchan was effective in his own way and people now like the casual feel that Shah Rukh brings to the show.

Now that KBC is coming to an end, my friends keep telling me, 'What will we do now between 9-10 pm?'" Savita laughs.

Apart from the show, the doting mother and her husband Ramesh Chibba are avid watchers of SRK's films. "I have watched all his films and I love them.

Earlier, my husband wouldn't watch Hindi films but ever since Gauri married Shah Rukh, he only goes to the theatre to watch Shah Rukh's films.

In fact, we make it a point to watch his films first day first show.

Sometimes, we even book the entire hall and call our friends and relatives to watch the film."

Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukherjee exemplify the Bollywood dream

Shah Rukh Khan in a still from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
By Vimla Patil

6 April 2007 (Sawf News) - To make it big in Bollywood it helps to be well connected with or part of the film fraternity, but it is not essential.

While Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan may have had an easy entry into Bollywood – the former because of her Miss World 1994 title and the latter because of his famous parents – other top Bollywood super stars have struggled from rags to riches! Their illustrious stories are examples to all young people.

Shah Rukh Khan, who enjoys the title of Badshah of Bollywood and is ranked as India's highest brand today, is an example. Most people may not remember that he came to Mumbai from Delhi after doing the TV serial Fauji and lived a Spartan life in the metro. The promos to his recent KBC season in lighter vein showed how he spent his first days in the city.

Akshay Kumar too came to Bollywood after a stint as a waiter in Bangkok! With his background of training in martial arts, he looked for work as an action man in films and has come a long way since then. Though some cruel media-persons continued to remind him of his 'chef-waiter' days for some time, they had to eat their own words when he gave hit after hit to be counted among the top stars of Bollywood – especially after he married Twinkle Khanna.

Rani Mukherjee is another star that did C grade films before Ghulam with Aamir Khan catapulted her to the top league. Her father, Ram Mukherjee, was so deep in debt that the family went through the worst phase of their lives until Rani became one of Bollywood's busiest stars. Rani has not forgotten those days of deprivation and the courage of her mother. So with the new Yashraj Films' release Tara Rum Pam, she has paid homage to her mother's fortitude through a song in the film. According to her, the film also centers on the sudden financial crisis of a wife after her husband's accident and how she copes with the calamity.

Rani has always pampered her parents, brother Raja and his wife and child and given them every imaginable luxury that she can. Last year, she bought a luxury home and moved her whole family to a deluxe suite of a five star hotel for months while star designers Twinkle Khanna and Suzanne Roshan completed the design of the new home to meet her taste

Kajol and Shahrukh Khan onscreen in a Karan Johar film

Last year actress Kajol made a comeback with actor Aamir Khan in Fanaa. However in spite of receiving plenty of film offers since her comeback, the actress is adamant on doing a selective few films as she wants to spend maximum time with her daughter Nysa. However now according to sources Kajol might make a full fledged comeback in a Karan Johar film with none other than Shahrukh Khan. Prior to marriage and motherhood, Kajol has done several films with SRK and the two were considered a hit pair.

According to sources, good friend and filmmaker Karan Johar is trying his best to convince Kajol to do his film and return to bollywood full time. Kajol will also be doing her husband Ajay Divan's directorial debut film and has also been seen in several ads along with hubby Ajay Devgan. Karan Johar is currently working on the research for his script and plans to have a film with a strong social message. Sources claim the film will be shot in New York, but actress Kajol still has to give the final confirmation. If Kajol agrees to do Karan's film with SRK it will definitely be a homecoming of sorts and the audience will be anxiously waiting to see the magic between the couple once more on-screen.

When SRK met his 'body double'

By: Upala KBR

Shah Rukh was amused after unveiling his wax statue at Madame Tussaud's museum in London

Asli Kaun, Naqli Kaun? Gauri Khan with SRK and his wax avatar
Last week, Shah Rukh had an 'out of body' experience when he unveiled his wax statue at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in London.

Says SRK, "It's difficult to describe what one goes through when such a thing happens. It was amusing, weird and humbling, all rolled into one.

I had an idea of what my statue would look like, as I had been shown the head the night before.

They required me to be there to touch up the skin tone.

It looks just like me, but there's a strange feeling as one is more used to seeing two-dimensional pictures.

It's exactly the same, especially the eyes and the eyebrows, which look very real."

Gifted by God

Yeh Hai Mera Duplicate: Shah Rukh Khan and... well... Shah Rukh Khan!

Is he saying that his waxy 'body double' is as good as the real McCoy? "It will be as good if I spend another week there and they add a few blemishes to the face, like moles etc.

The sculptor, Steve, was very happy with the result," says SRK.

While at the unveiling, the actor made time to attend to one of his kiddie fans – a mentally challenged boy who had driven down from the outskirts of London to catch a glimpse of the star.

"I believe that people who are physically and mentally challenged are very close to Allah. It's strange when people like them see my films and feel that I have made them better. It's very touching and very humbling.

I have had people from Poland coming to India to meet me and narrate their experiences. Recently, a 16-year old girl from USA, who had been paralysed, felt that she started walking because of me. She flew down with her entire family to meet me.

A Caring Hand: Shah Rukh with a fan

I had met her while I was performing for my world tour the first time.

Though she started walking out of her own will, she feels it was because of me. I find it strange, but it's a beautiful experience.

If they find happiness looking at me, I feel gifted in a nice way," he says, with conviction and without a trace of modesty.

So how did he feel when he left Madame Tussaud's and drove away? "You know, usually when I finish something I don't think about whether it's good or bad. It then becomes something to look forward to.

I am now looking forward to taking my kids to Madame Tussaud's and show them the wax statues. It's a very entertaining place," he says.

Malaika Arora and Arbaaz dancing in Om Shanti Om

MANDVI SHARMA
[ 6 Apr, 2007 2038hrs ISTTIMES NEWS NETWORK >

Malaika will also be doing a dance number with hubby Arbaaz for Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om, but this one has a twist in the tale.

"Arbaaz and I will be seen together after ages. But the funny part is that Arbaaz will be dancing here. I told him that I can vouch for his acting, action and everything he does publicly. But dancing! I really don't know what is he going to do. You have hip-hop dancers, jazz dancers, good dancers and bad dancers, but I don't know which category he will fit in," says Malaika as she bursts out laughing.

Shilpa Shetty's mother predicted SRK's rise!

Look out for Shilpa Shetty's mommy, Sunanda. She's quite an ace at predictions, we hear. Apparently, when daughter Shilpa was shooting for Baazigar with the Khan, she had foretold that Shah Rukh would become a rage, a superstar of sorts. Mommy dearest had also predicted daughter Shilpa's international fame, and so probably wasn't surprised that the sexy damsel emerged winner in the UK-based reality show. What next, we wonder. With wedding bells ringing galore in Bollywood, any predictions about Shilpa's shaadi, Sunanda aunty?
