So I'm at around episode 8 now. And I have one problem with the show, which has otherwise been going well so far. I find it very hard to believe that Myra thinks she has had intercourse when she has not.
If she thought it was forced, she would complain about it. Her guilt emerges from her feeling that she sort of wanted it and gave mixed signals and probably participated in it. I get all that. Thats not where my problem is.
The problem I have is purely physical: your body does not obliterate the signs of intercourse, especially if it is your first time, which I'm guessing for Myra it is. It is possible for someone to sleep with someone and block it from memory, but, without getting too explicit about it, there will definitely be physical manifestations that you either have or don't have. And I can't believe that they didn't take that into account when they wrote this plot point.
Completely agree with you. And I did have a problem with that initially. But as the show proceeded, I realised that that the CVs did not make any blunder at all regarding the night. Thank you for bringing this up again.
Ending up in his bed was already a bit of a trauma for her; something very much against her old school values. That is one.
Second is that she was badly drunk & had absolutely zero recollection of the night so she assumed the worst. (Rhea made reference to Myra never having a boyfriend etc in 1 of the epis & that she has no clue about stuff.. not sure how relevant this is but just putting it here) But drunk people I believe can forget.
Third, she was already so prejudiced against Kabir that she refused to even think of the facts (i.e the physical feeling of having sex)
Fourth, as you watch on, you'll see that Kabir does deny that nothing happened. But yet she refuses to believe him. It takes her a long time to finally believe his words as he explains the night to her the 2nd time (but in more detail as she finally agrees to listen).
And she believes him not so much because he finally lists down what all that happened factually (despite her unable to recollect). But rather because she finally begins to trust him enough to listen to him & thus takes his word, believing that nothing happened. So the point wasn't so much that the CVs didn't consider the physical feeling of sex & made a big blunder/plothole. I am sure they did given that it comes up in the drama a few times. Rather, the point was to establish how deep Myra's prejudice runs IMO & how she can be so fixated on it against all logic so as to miss the point completely (disregarding you know the feeling of sex etc & the fact that Kabir never harmed her & only tried to always help her & her family) Very Elizabeth Bennet like.
