Losing it big time
The more they lose it, the tougher it gets. Every time the participants of Sahara's biggest TRP grabber Biggest Loser Jeetega achieve a task they get newer goals to achieve. The fitter they get, the tougher challenges they face. But this is one challenge they had not bargained for. The participants were recently made to go through the military regimen, literally. The entire crew went to the nearby INS Shivaji, Lonavala, to actually understand the training programme of the Indian army to be incorporated to the challenge. Here the contestants were supposed to perform tasks and cross obstacles.

The trainer of the Blue Team, Yusuf Khan says, "The participants have already completed five weeks in the Biggest Loser house. They have faced different kinds of challenging tasks, so getting a tougher challenge was important. When it comes to something tough, nothing comes close to the Indian army training. To make things look real, we wanted to incorporate the correct elements. We thought of approaching the nearby INS Shivaji, and they were more than eager to help us. The best part is that they personally gave us the insight into the training programme. I must say, the tasks are quite tough."

The tasks involved going through artificial tunnels, climbing ladders. But, when the participants saw the tasks they were supposed to do, they backed out. The team had to persuade them to participate. "The army trainings are tough for a normal individual. But, they are obese people which make walking even tough. So, they were not ready to participate. We tried very hard to convince them. At the end, we made the tasks a little easier and relaxed the rules to help them garner maximum points. Finally, after hours of persuasion, they agreed and we were relieved," Yusuf added.

T he Red Team had to elim- inate a member for the third consecutive week. Though they lost more weight as a team, their percentage loss after a member was swapped was more than the Blue Team. So, Red Team's Priyanka Bhyana was evicted from Sahara One's Biggest Loser Jeetega. Red vs Blue On Priyanka's ouster, host Suniel Shetty says, "She should've been out earlier. The Red Team should put Sandeep (Sachdev) as the first mover and work on overcoming their nervousness against facing the Blue Team. I will motivate them this week. It's a mind game..they should get rid of their inferiority complex." About the Blue Team, he maintains, "They're getting too big for their boots and are over- confident. It's a matter of time when their muscles will stop reacting..then we'll see how they cope." New innings Shetty recalls his recent con- versation with Sahara One head, Seemanto Roy, who said to him: "Sahara is seeing a new innings with this show." Shetty adds, " The response is amazing. I wouldn't mind tak- ing a year off to be involved in this show since it has such a pos- itive impact on those who are a part of it." With the competition enter- ing its sixth week, the level of tasks will also get tougher. "They will be given military tasks. The contestants are being trained for it, only they don't know about it. No task is given without preparing them for it." Asked to comment on the week gone by and Shetty remarks, "I missed Gracious." Team knows best On her eviction, Priyanka says, "Leaving the house in Aamby Valley is difficult..I'm very dis- appointed. The team voted me out because they felt I'd hamper their chances of winning..my knee injury only added to it." Clarifying that she'd had this injury earlier, she states, "The tasks are only going to get tougher. My injury would have only proved to be a liability for the team." About accepting the offer, she says, "I've been trying to lose weight for ages but have really never succeeded till now." She names her trainer Deepika Mehta and health and fitness director Andrew Leipus for being an excellent support sys- tem during her stay. About losing 15.5 kilos, she says, "I've learnt to make some super low cal dishes. My family will now eat what I do to help me reach my target weight. Actual- ly staying away from my family has helped me to focus on losing weight. We have a great team of fitness experts, chefs and a med- ical team." About getting back to her nor- mal life, she states, "I will set a goal each day and work towards achieving it." She concludes that one among Hiren Bhawsar and Ajay Nagrath are most likely to win.

After taking a break from films as he wasn't getting the right kind of roles, actor Suniel Shetty is not exactly twiddling his thumbs. After many other filmstars, Suneil Shetty too made his debut on the small screen with the health based reality TV show Biggest Loser Jeetega on SaharaOne. Talking about the experience on tv he states, "I was very keen on doing it from the moment I heard the concept, which is to show people how to lose weight within a stipulated time period. I always wanted to promote health and related subjects in our country and this is a great chance as nothing can be bigger than this show as far as health is concerned," exclaims Suniel.

The actor has signed a three-month contract and says he is glad that he did. "The show is picking up and the enthusiasm of the contestants is unbelievable! They are willing to do anything to keep themselves fit."

Suneil too lost weight and has become fitter for the show. "I lost about two kilos and these days I am doing weights, but being on the show has taught me lots more about nutrition, fitness and health- that I didn't know."

So, is he enjoying doing this reality show and being on tv? "Reality shows rock and there is a whole lot of work that goes on behind the scenes that no one ever sees. Our show is different because it is bringing a change in lives of people and their outlook too — even if they are voted out this experience will help them forever. But working on tv again isn't something I am going to continue. I took on this show because it was health based tomorrow if I got something related to sports I might, but no serials for me. I'm happy doing films," he says.

Dirty Robin!
In The Red: Robin with his team mates

Something tells us that Blue team contestant Robin will soon be evicted from SaharaOne's Biggest Loser Jeetega. Robin is not well and has been missing several exercise sessions, preferring to rest in his room.

What's more, his teammates are extremely put off by his unhygienic ways. Apparently, he refuses to take a shower after workouts and eats food without washing his hands.

Now, the team is seriously considering eliminating him next. What do you think? Is that reason enough to eliminate Robin? Write in to us at
hitlist@mid-day.com with your comments.

T he shy, submissive Samirah Ahmed, who was eliminat- ed this week, raves about how the show had changed her life and personality. In her words: No strategy here I never had a strategy except when our teams were given certain tasks. My only plan was to lose weight. I've lost 14.8 kilos but have lots more to go. I was sure I wouldn't be a finalist but I thought I'd last another week. Come to think of it, a girl has never won a reality contest, has she? We're mere showpieces. Only Natasha Grover and Sharmila Joshi may survive till the very end. I agreed to be a part of this show to help regain the confidence I'd lost after gaining too much weight. I've now learnt the importance of three things in life - training, diet and recovery. Andrew Leipus, Yusef Khan, Deepika Mehta, Varun Shiv- dasani and Dr Ajit Desai were my support sys tem. Living with 16 indi- viduals, who share the same con- cerns as me, has only given me the strength to get back in to shape. On a high I remember the time when I cried, looking at team- mate Robin Soloman bend over to tie his shoelaces - he hadn't done that in ages. I know the struggle and pain he went through to get there. In the first week, I fell off the treadmill since I'd never been to a gym in my life. But now I can run 14 to 20 km at one go. I know our team was called overconfident. But why? Because our strategies worked and we won more tasks? I wish the others would come to terms with their shortcomings before pointing a finger at us. .. And the winner? Of the survivors, I think Sandeep and Sachdev Ajay Nagrath have great endurance levels. Nirmal Soni and Neer- aj Paul are the dark horses. As for the win- ner, I'm sure it will be Hiren Bhawsar.

Natasha Grover and Ajay Nagrath
Sahara One's reality show Biggest Loser Jeetega seems to be a bed of hot controversies. After Gracious D'costa and Muna Aleem's alleged affair on screen, another couple seems to have found love. This time cupid has struck members of Blue Team, Ajay Nagrath and Natasha Grover. But the blooming love-story on the sets seems to have angered the trainer Yusuf Khan.

An infuriated Yusuf Khan has refused to impart the training. The process of losing weight involves three stages - training, recovery and diet. As the training process is gruelling, the recovery is very important for the body to have ample time to get back its rhythm. This is then followed by proper diet.

But our love birds, Ajay Nagrath and Natasha Grover, are awake till the wee hours and emerge out of bed very late hampering the smooth training process. Repeated warnings have fallen on deaf ears. This has angered the trainer Yusuf Khan and he has now refused to give them training.

Yusuf
Says Yusuf Khan, "Ajay and Natasha are always awake till late night and this goes against the rules of Biggest Loser Jeetega. They always wake up late in the morning delaying the training process. If they do not follow the process, their body will be at risk. As they are not following the training and recovery procedures, the diet also cannot follow."

He adds, "I guess, there must be something going on between them which has reduced their sleep hours. I have also noticed that they are always with each other as they belong to the same team. I do not have any problem with that, but this should not hamper the show's procedure. They do not listen to me any more and it cannot go on like this. So, I have decided not to give any further training to them."

Did Rakhi play cupid?

6 Jul 2007, 0115 hrs IST,DEEPALI DHINGRA ,TIMES NEWS NETWORK

The contestants of Biggest Loser Jeetega have a ball of a time with Rakhi Sawant to entertain them.
When the song Pardesia started playing at the gym on the sets of SaharaOne Television's Biggest Loser Jeetega , the Red Team contestants had no clue what or who they were in for.
But then they couldn't help but clap their hands with joy. After all, it's not everyday that people get a chance to meet Rakhi Sawant! Yes, Bollywood's favourite item girl spent three days in the Biggest Loser Jeetega house at Amby Valley, boosting the morale of Team Red while funny man Javed Jaffery was with Team Blue to encourage them.

And with motor mouth Rakhi being there, there had to be some dhamaal ! One of the first things Rakhi did was to become involved in the love triangle that seems to be developing between Team Red member Sandeep and Team Blue members Natasha and Ajay.
Recalls Rakhi, "Sandeep likes Natasha but Natasha likes Ajay. When you're living at such close quarters, such things are bound to happen," she says.
Rakhi had a good time pulling Sandeep's leg about the whole matter. "There was a solo dance competition organised for the teams and Sandeep kept looking at Natasha while he was dancing, so I called out to him and said, ' Mujhe dekh ke dance kar raha hai ya Natasha ko !'" she laughs.
Known for speaking what's on her mind, firebrand Rakhi almost ended up having an argument with Team Red trainer Deepika Mehta. Talking about the incident, she says, "The contestants kept on talking to each other while exercising, so I told them to concentrate on what they were doing. I told Deepika that since she's the trainer, she should be like Hitler. At that, Deepika said that she knows her job."
Adds Rakhi, " Hum dono mein thodi si tutu main-main ho gayi but Deepika is a nice girl. She's just a little too soft on the contestants at times."
And what about Rakhi? Did she resort to picking up a chhadi to scold them? " Mujhe chhadi ki zaroorat nahin , meri zabaan hi kaafi hai !" she laughs. Besides boosting the morale of the contestants, Rakhi and Javed gave tips to them regarding the dance competition, helped design their costumes and even shook a leg with them.
And at the end of their visit, they gave them gifts that the contestants' family members had sent for them. Watch the hot as a mirchi Rakhi Sawant and the humorous Javed Jaffrey on Biggest Loser Jeetega , this week at 8 pm Friday to Sunday only on SaharaOne Television.

'The mentally strong will survive'

With the elimination of Ajay Nagrath, five contestants remain in the show 'Biggest Loser Jeetega' (Sahara One). To win the grand prize—a lakh for each kilogram lost—the contestants are being trained by Andrew Leipus, former physiotherapist to the Indian cricket team and trainers Yusuf Khan and Deepika Mehta.

Trainer for the Blue team, Yusuf has become a favourite with the contestants with all the evicted contestants swearing by his contribution to their fitness.

Yusuf says that some people need an isolated environment to lose weight, so that there are no distractions to their goal. Will the contestants be able to resist temptations once they are out in the normal surroundings? "Yes, they've come here after trying out every possible weight loss method. Now they know what their calorie intake and output should be. One can see a difference in their attitude. Every week, we give them hard to resist temptations. Initially, they fell for it. But now, they don't accept any temptation. They realize the difficulties they've endured to lose every kilo."

About the game, he says, "It's not just a physical game, it's also mental—every action of theirs is blown out of proportion-whether happy or sad. Only those who are mentally strong will survive."

Doesn't the competition and elimination discourage the participants? Yusuf disagrees, "Contestants from the international show have succeeded in adopting healthier lives. It has helped to educate them to lead a disciplined lifestyle. The eliminated contestants will be our brand ambassadors."

In the initial weeks, an infuriated Yusuf had refused to impart training to contestants Ajay Nagrath and Natasha Grover. Rumoured to be in love, they would stay awake till the wee hours and hamper the training process by coming late.

Yusuf clarifies, "I did not have any problem with them spending time together, but that should not hamper the show's procedure. They did not listen to me and I decided not to give them any further training. But they soon got their act together."

Who does he think could win the contest? "Sandeep Sachdev has got a very good chance but I won't be surprised if Natasha wins too. I train with her, she's much focused, mentally very strong and determined," he ends.

T ell the winners of the Big Feast Contest that there is no such thing as free meals, and they are sure to disagree. On Saturday eight people , won a three-night-two-day stay in the Aamby Valley home of the Biggest Loser Jeetega contestants, starting Friday . Also, they got an opportu- nity to face the challenges which the contestants did. Although the difficult work-out sessions and diet food wasn't exactly their idea of a holiday the winners did- , n't complain. Trained under Yusuf Khan, they agreed the contest was an eye-opener. Inder Singh Negi, a busi- nessman from Delhi, had never worried about his weight until he came here. He said, "As the tension at work and home gained pri- ority, I did not bother to watch my weight. Now I plan to follow a strict regime when I get back." Siddhesh Patil, another Big Feast winner, Mumbai, believes Mumbaikars have no time for exercise. "Khan helped us realise that exer- cises can be included in everyday activities. I plan to cycle for 45 minutes and climb at least 100 stairs dai- ly." As the first season of Biggest Loser Jeetega contest draws to an end, some of the Feast winners hope to con- test for the next show. Khan, the trainer of the blue team admitted that the contest is not easy . He remarked, "It is diffi- cult to face challenges day after day, away from your family and cut out from the world. Emotions get blown out of proportion." In a reverse of the Shake- spearean saying, " pound of A flesh for money the winner ," receives a lakh for every kilo lost and a chance to live a healthier and more con- tented life.
