Bigg Boss grand finale on 27th Jan at 9 pm only on Sony TV

MUMBAI: It is finally here. India's first reality show, Bigg Boss comes to an end. After providing ring side view of the Bigg Boss house for three months it is time to go back to normal life for the contestants of the show and for viewers too.

There are only three members in the fray now. Carol Gracias, Ravi Kishen and Rahul Roy. What is it that makes these people the chosen ones to battle it out for the prize money? Rahul Roy with his characteristic calmness earned him the nickname of "Baba". Like a sage, he maintained dignified silence in the face of turmoil and high drama and was able to give his brand of sane advice to the inmates of the house. Was that his winning ploy? Carol remained her self throughout the show.

She tried to be fair to all, forgiving them their trespasses, except Raakhi and perhaps Anupama Varma both of whom she made no attempts to befriend. Ravi Kishen came with his ego and bloated self-image but with time touched base with his real self. He endeared himself to the viewers by apologizing for his wrong doings and appreciating all the goodness around him. So what makes a winner? The moment of truth is here.

While the winner will walk away with the prize money, others will not go home disappointed either. For their friends will return to celebrate the occasion in style.

Baba Sehgal will do a hilarious spoof on all of them. Aryan Vaid promises to give a rocking performance minus Anupama. Kashmira has sneaked away to do her rehearsals for her item number.

So can the original item girl be far behind? Raakhi will burn the stage with her number. After her training, Rupali, the cry baby will perform too! The show stopper of course will be a romantic number by Amit Sadh and his love, Neeru Bajwa. There's more. But let there be some suspense too.

Don't miss the grand finale live on Saturday, 27th January, 2007 only on Sony Entertainment Television.

Rahul Roy wins Bigg Boss TV reality show
DNA Correspondent
Saturday, January 27, 2007 20:42 IST

MUMBAI: Rahul Roy won the Bigg Boss reality show here on Saturday. The winner takes home Rs 50 lakh.
A "stunned" Rahul admitted that the going was not easy in the house, in the three-month stay, but attributed his success to the Almighty and his Guruji.
Carol Gracias, Ravi Kishen and Rahul were the final three members in the House, in the reality show. Item girl Rakhi Sawant was the last member to be evicted.
Carol is a foodie. Ghosts spook her. She is afraid of darkness, particularly in unfamiliar surroundings. She hates cats, loves dogs, hates being woken up, enjoys intellectual discussions, and enjoys her drink and smoke.
She enjoys doing the Sudoku every morning and loves being a winner. She hates people who eat with their mouth open.
Ravi, the superstar of Bhojpuri films was better known as the man in Nagma's life until recently.
This man from Jaunpur, Bihar, is married and is a father of three. Ravi loves to sleep, rest and spend time with himself. He hates fanatics, egoistic people and people who put up a pseudo front.
Rahul was 24 when he did Ashiqui. He is 40 now. Nothing great happened in between. His biggest contribution to the film industry and the public was his hairstyle. Rahul hates people who are disillusioned, arrogant and liars.
Controversy follows Rakhi wherever she goes. Her Mikka controversy took over newspaper headlines and made news on every television channel. She claims to be an item girl who should be allowed to wear clothes that she is comfortable in when she dances. Rakhi is a true believer in God. Rakhi is finicky about cleanliness.

Arshad Warsi, the real winner
By: A Sunday Mid Day Correspondent
January 28, 2007
Arshad Warsi

On Saturday evening, the buzz was not so much around Rahul Roy who emerged as the surprise winner of Bigg Boss as show host Arshad Warsi.

Warsi, it is said made Rs 90 lakh for his once-a-week trip to Karjat, where the housemates would await their eviction at his hands. For his films, it is said, Arshad charges around Rs 50 lakh.

Almost immediately after announcing Rahul as the winner on Saturday, Arshad got into his car and made a quick exit, leaving behind the other housemates to field media queries.

This started speculation on the sets that Arshad may have already been asked about his prize money, and did not want to confirm just how lucrative his contract with Sony and Endemol India had been.

Arshad's luck has been on the rise ever since he starred in the first of Rajkumar Hirani's films on the exploits of Munnabhai and Circuit, way back in 2003.

A string of comedies like Hulchul, Salaam Namaste and Golmaal followed, but he sealed his position with his second innings as the loveable Circuit in the superhit Lage Raho Munnabhai. In the recent Kabul Express, he walked away with all the praise, despite the presence of India's current hottie John Abraham.

The other mega deal Arshad landed in television was Filmy Stock Exchange on Sahara One's Filmy channel.

This is a sea-change from the Arshad who struggled to find a footing in ABCL's Tere Mere Sapne also starring Chandrachur Singh in 1996. Despite being appreciated, Arshad could not find a genre that worked for him.

Surprising then, that he would go on to become the main attraction for a TV show.

When Arshad signed up as host on Bigg Boss, he seemed the most bankable name on their marquee. And there was conjecture over why he had attached his name to the show but Bigg Boss quickly climbed the TRP ratings and Arshad's luck has continued to soar.

It is rumoured that Arshad charges nearly Rs 75 lakh-a crore per film but trade analyst Indu Mirani says this figure sounds too steep. "Unless he gives a solo hit or carries a film on his shoulders, he shouldn't be thinking of asking for so much."

She does admit though that since Munnabhai, Arshad's stock is much higher than other comic actors like Rajpal Yadav.

Still, he is yet to get into the one-crore league like new entrant Shiney Ahuja. "But TV could well have paid him Rs 90 lakh, because he was their lure and they have that kind of money," says Mirani.

Seeking to maximise Arshad's pull, Endemol India wanted to send him to London to lend a brotherly shoulder to actress Shilpa Shetty, who is herself an inmate on Celebrity Big Brother there. Shilpa had been on the receiving end of a heavy bout of nastiness, Big Brother style, and Arshad was to take a message of comfort from her family and friends.

However, when Endemol asked Arshad not to mention the recent racism controversy, Arshad is said to have refused to go.

'Rahul got Rs 1 lakh for his first film Aashiqui'

Mahesh Bhatt on his discovery Rahul Roy, winner of the Rs 50 lakh cheque

By: Shradha Sukumaran
A victorious Rahul on the Bigg Boss sets pic/pradeep Dhivar

THE man who discovered Bigg Boss winner Rahul Roy and launched him with Aashiqui says that with this triumph, the winner has been "twice-born".
"He's won? Rs 50 lakh? I'm happy for him," says filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt who gave Rahul his first break with the home production Aashiqui. "After dizzying success, Rahul went into oblivion for 16 years, even longer than Ram's vanvas. Now he's got a taste of stardom again. I'm certain the experience has made him not only richer, but stronger."
The director remembers choosing a quiet, lonely boy for the role of Rahul in Aashiqui, who falls madly in love with orphan Anu. Though Bhatt had not watched Rahul's progress over the last three months up to the finals of Bigg Boss on Saturday, he had heard of his "tact and military-like mind". "There was an inner silence to him even when I first met him. It was also humiliating for him to be a star at 21 and a nobody at 24. He was always frightened of stepping into his own skin. But this forced confinement has made him come face to face with his inner demons and inner wealth."
Ironically, Bhatt remembers paying Rahul just about Rs one lakh as his first salary and making Aashiqui for Rs 40 lakh in 1990.
"You should tell him that he owes it to the man who gave him birth to give Rs 10,000 of that prize money as a gift for books!" laughs Bhatt.
The actor's mentor tried to recreate the Aashiqui magic again with Rahul by casting him in Janam, Junoon and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi, but admits that he failed. Rahul kept in touch with Bhatt over the years.
"I saw a new side to Rahul in a documentary for National Geographic. He seemed to have matured and thirsted for stardom again. Public memory is short so I don't know if this will give his career a new lease of life. But he should savour the glory now and use the inner treasures before the euphoria evaporates," advises Bhatt.

Rahul hits Bigg time!

The actor talks about his Bigg Boss triumph

Kunal M Shah

Rahul Roy
It feels amazing," says Rahul Roy, after emerging triumphant in the Bigg Boss house. "I'm grateful to God and my guru, my father-in-law Mr Khandvilkar, because he has always taught me to be calm and composed. It's easy to be aggressive and emotional, but in tense moments I used to recite my mantra."

He elaborates, "It has been 13 weeks and I'm very thankful to all the people for their love. It was important to win the hearts of all the 12 contestants in the house. It was the toughest phase of my life. I challenge anyone who feels they are strong to stay here and survive even for a week."

Rahul faced constant allegations of being a 'dhongi'. He shrugs it off, saying, "It happens. But I've met all of them now and everything is fine. I don't think anyone from the house will hold anything against me and they will be my friends forever." (In this, he seems to echo fellow-inmate Rakhi Sawant's sentiments.)

What is the first thing on his agenda now that he's free? "The first thing I'm going to do is to fly to Sydney and meet my wife Lakshmi," he says happily.

Emerging from oblivion, with his victory in Bigg Boss, Rahul Roy proved that life gives everyone a second chance. With Carol Gracias being evicted, the Aashiqui hero emerged victorious in Bigg Boss house and took home Rs 50 lakh. Seen here with the trophy!

After 17 years, Rahul creates history!
After a roller coaster ride for the last three months - with 13 contestants and their crazy outbursts, Bigg Boss finally came to an end with Rahul Roy winning the prize money. We've seen all the contestants in the house breaking under pressure. We've seen Roopali cry pools of tears. Amit Sadh bursting out with anger. And Deepak Tijori break down for simple reasons. But Rahul Roy is the only contestant who stayed level headed throughout. He never emotionally attached himself to any of the contestants and played the game staying aloof from everyone. But we do have to admit that he was the most boring personality in the house as well. Ashiqui, the hit musical by Mashesh Bhatt was released in the year 1990. The movie was an instant hit. Rahul Roy became a star overnight after the movie and became quite popular with women. After that, Rahul acted in quite a lot of films, notable among them was 'Junoon', a thriller. But with time, Rahul's glory faded away. Rahul is back in the limelight with his winning stroke. All the best to the Baba of the house. Ravi lost the game but won back his family: Today was the final day and all the housemates had dressed up for the occasion. Carol looked pretty in a blood red evening gown, Rahul was in a black evening suit and Rahul wore a beige suit. All of them were sitting on the famous couch waiting for the final verdict. Ravi has been a hot favourite from the beginning. When Arshad asked all of them, who they think will be the winner. Both Carol and Rahul pointed towards Ravi. But the results were quite shocking. Ravi was the first one to be evicted. Arshad asked each one of them to pick up an envelope from the confession room. The envelope said that Carol and Rahul were safe. Then Arshad declared that Ravi is eliminated. The guy took the audience verdict in good spirit. But his wife Preeti looked quite pale as the camera focussed on her in the audience. Rave came up on stage and hugged his kids. He declared that in the Bigg Boss house he has realised the value of his family and above all his wife Preeti. Carol always wanted Baba to win: Carol's wishes came true. In the end when Arshad asked Carol to come out of the house, a huge crowd was waiting for her out there. Everybody cheered her as she walked out with her suitcase. She looked very excited to see her parents. And of course Roopali and the rest of the gang. Arshad went ahead and told her that she had lost the game. But she looked jovial and was more excited to see her family and friends. Roopali sizzles on stage: Is this the same Roopali who cried pools of tears inside the house? Well, yes. Roopali Ganguli performed the sensual Maiya Maiya from the film Guru and proved that she can also be a great item girl. This was the final episode of Bigg Boss and all the evicted contestants were present on the venue to welcome the winner. The show started with Kashmera's jhatke on 'Sexy Lady' on the floor.' Aryan Vaid was next on the stage. Opps! It seems he has forgotten his shirt again. Or maybe he wanted to show off the results of his latest workout regime. Baba Sehgal performed his rap number and called Deepak Parashar, Ragini, Bobby Darling on the stage. Amit and Neeru performed a sexy dance number. The glittering evening filled with starry 'latke and jhatke' was quite a timepass for all. Anupama says Aryan is a changed person outside: Anupama and Aryan love story had made headlines. Everyone knows that Aryan had fallen madly in love with Anupama while they were in the house. Anupama seemed to be enjoying the attention. Everybody was speculating if the love story will have a happy ending or a sad one. Reality seems to be really bitter. Anupama came on the stage and spoke to Arshad about her relationship with Aryan. She said that things didn't work out between her and Aryan as she found that Aryan was not the same person she met inside the house. Outside he had changed a lot. And now they were just good friends and nothing more than that.

Rakhi and Abhishek romances on stage: Rakhi's scorcing performance left the audiences breathless. But when Abhishek joined her on the stage, the duo looked even hotter. Both displayed great chemistry while dancing to a serious of songs. Later Arshad asked Rakhi to mimic and she enacted Aryan and Ravi's dialogues with elan.

The real winner

Rahul Roy wins Bigg Boss and Rs 50 lakh but the real loot was taken home by host Arshad Warsi who is rumoured to have made twice that amount

On Saturday evening, the buzz was not so much around Rahul Roy who emerged as the surprise winner of Bigg Boss as show host Arshad Warsi. Ravi Kissen with his family on the sets of Bigg Boss in Karjat pic/pradeep dhivar

Ravi Kissen: "I've learnt enough to make many movies"

By: Subhash K Jha
Ravi Kissen with his family on the sets of Bigg Boss in Karjat pic/pradeep dhivar

Evicted from Bigg Boss on Saturday, Ravi Kissen is surprisingly mellow.
"I know I must have sounded aggressive in there, shouting Har har mahadev and all that. I admit I am a sanki (temperamental) type. But I'm not a bad person. I went in there not to earn money — by the grace of God I'm making plenty — but to de-toxicate myself from several emotional and physical addictions."
Ravi is obviously referring to his much-talked about affair with his favourite Bhojpuri actress. "Let's not take names now, I'm beyond name-calling. I've done enough fighting in there to last me a life-time. Circumstances were so strange, and there was bound to be a lot of tension and friction. Outside the house I feel no grudge for anyone..." Ravi's greatest joy after being evicted is to see his family. "I've missed my wife and children so much! I've cried in there for them. Now I can't believe I'm standing here next to them."
Ravi says he has come out of the house ready to use all his experiences in his Bhojpuri films. "I plan to use these experiences in my films. I think I've come out a better actor because I've come out a better human being. I don't even remember the fights in there. I don't want to."
And then the clincher, "By the way, what have the other inmates saying about me after being evicted?"

'Rakhi is a third-grade person'

Crying Foul: Rupali Ganguly

After being accused of harbouring romantic feelings for the much-married Ravi Kissen and being called a crybaby on Bigg Boss, Rupali Ganguly was in no mood to make nice with her fellow inmates during the finale shoot on Saturday night.

However, the one contestant who bore the brunt of Ganguly's temper was Rakhi Sawant, who was angrily snubbed by Rupali when she tried to be friendly with her.

Endless chattering

It all began when Rakhi kept following Rupali around before the show, eventually planting herself next to the actress for the finale. Rupali wanted to be left alone but Rakhi kept chatting with her endlessly.

Rakhi Sawant

Says a friend of the actress, "Rupali was extremely upset with Rakhi for linking her with Ravi, as she was the one who started the gossip about them on Bigg Boss.

What's more, everyone knows that Rakhi is anti-Carol, yet she kept telling Rupali that she wanted Carol to win the show. After a while, Rupali couldn't take it anymore and got up to sit somewhere else."

Responding to this, Rupali says, "Rakhi would obviously take Carol's name because she had called Rahul names like Anaconda and said some very dirty things about him. I was irritated with her attitude.

She is constantly lying and trying to be different with different people. I don't wish to associate myself with her any more. Rakhi is a third-grade person."

Final tantrums

Rupali is so ticked off with the item girl that she even told Rakhi's mother that she didn't think too highly of her daughter. "I saw Rakhi sitting there and holding hands with Abhishek while her mother was sitting alone.

This shows the kind of person she is. I don't want to say anything more and give her unwanted publicity," says Rupali. Sources reveal that Rakhi and Rupali even had fights during the finale episode rehearsal on Friday.

"Rakhi was throwing her weight around and constantly asking the Endemol guys to hurry up her rehearsals, when there were others who were waiting in line before her. Rupali was very put off by this behaviour."

A source adds that Ganguly then told the production guys that they couldn't keep bowing to Rakhi's demands. Says Rupali, "I was very irritated with Rakhi.

I don't believe in smiling at a person and then bitching her out behind her back. I told Rakhi off to her face during the rehearsals. She can't tamper with the rehearsal schedule just because she feels like it."

Amit's true colours

Another person who registered himself in Rupali's bad books is Amit Sadh. Friends close to Rupali reveal, "She was fuming with rage after she saw Amit's true colours on the show. He not only bad-mouthed her but also contributed in no small measure to the gossip about her supposed affections for Ravi."

Sources present at the finale say that Amit kept trying to make peace with Rupali, only to get icy cold vibes from her. This got Amit very worked up and he was later heard calling Rupali names.

Says Ganguly, "I don't care about Amit. Frankly, the only two people who matter to me are Carol and Rahul Roy. What Amit said or did is of no concern to me any more."

Rupali now wants to bury memories of Bigg Boss and move on. "I'm sick of people calling me a crybaby and talking about me giving a massage on the show.

I don't think I am answerable to anyone other than my parents. The only good thing the show gave me was a true friend in Carol. Everything else was fake!"

Meanwhile, Rakhi Sawant says, "Rupali is now the 'Mika No 2' in my life! She is trying to create problems for me even after leaving Bigg Boss's house. If she wants to get publicity by calling me names, I have no issues. As far as I am concerned, I was perfectly nice to her."
