Shweta goes for a makeover
29 Aug 2008, 0000 hrs IST,TNN

Shweta Tiwari (TOI Photo) More Pics
Yes, that is Shweta Tiwari on the left! Gone are the mile-long sarees and the sindoor and long mangalsutra she sported as Prerna of Kasautii Zindagii Kay.

Enter flat abs, shorts and bikini tops! Ask Shweta if it's a deliberate attempt to change her image now that she's on the verge of signing some Bollywood films and she denies it.

'There's no attempt of that sort at all,' she says, 'I have been doing photo shoots like this earlier too but yes, people are not used to seeing me like this.' The actress adds that she loved her character in the soap that made her a familiar face on the small screen but she admits that she does not want to get stuck with an image. 'In case I get glam roles in films which are good, I will take them up,' she says.

Shweta does not like being asked personal questions. So any questions about husband Raja Chowdhary go unanswered. The actress, who filed a case of domestic violence against him last year, says that her state of mind currently is 'relaxed'. 'My daughter's very supportive, I'm earning well and I'm happy with my life,' she says. Prod her some more and she adds, 'I hope Raja does well and I wish him all the best.'

Controversies dog Shilpa Shetty wherever she goes. Recently the actress, who is hosting the second season of "Bigg Boss" on a TV channel, was attacked by the supporters of Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Ramdas Athavale in Lonavala near Mumbai.

On Friday after Shilpa finished recording her interview with TV tycoon Ekta and her brother Tusshar Kapoor in Lonavala, the actress was stopped from returning to Mumbai by Athavale's supporters who laid siege to the "Bigg Boss" venue and pelted her car with stones.

Athavale claims he was approached to go into the "Bigg Boss" house of the reality show but was dropped "because of Shilpa's maneuvers".

But Shilpa says she has nothing to do with the selection of participants in the show where they spend up to three months locked inside a house, all their moves recorded by TV cameras.

Talking about the attack on her, Shilpa said: "They wouldn't let me leave. And they were pelting stones at my car! What had my poor car done to earn their wrath? What have I done, will someone please tell me? Will Mr Athavale and his supporters please understand that I had nothing to with the nomination of candidates for 'Bigg Boss'?"

Last month, Athavale's supporters ransacked the Mumbai office of the TV channel and blocked the road outside soon after the show went on air. They even burnt Shilpa's effigies.

Bigg Boss takes a toll on Alina's twin sister

Mumbai:

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Alina Wadiwala with sister Sana

The popularity of reality TV show Bigg Boss has had an adverse effect on Sana Wadiwala's life. Sana, the twin sister of Alina, the only non-celebrity contestant on the show, has to think twice before venturing outside.

She has been repeatedly mistaken for Alina and her presence on the streets has forced people to question the authenticity of the show. There was wide speculation about the credibility of the show when Sana was spotted at a party at the Leela Kempinsky last week.

The media hounded her, Endemol the production house and Colors channel for an explanation. In fact, Shilpa Shetty had to call her on the show to prove that Sana and Alina are different individuals and that the format of the show was genuine.

According to close family sources, the attention has taken a toll on Sana's life. She has stopped going for her modelling assignments and auditions. "She is mistaken for Alina by everyone. She is getting very irritated," the source revealed. "Sana's phone has not stopped ringing ever since she was spotted outside her house. Sana and Alina's common friends are also being harassed, as people call them to get information about Bigg Boss," said a common friend.

Dependent

Sana and Alina featured in an article on identical twins published in MiD DAY last September. The two had said they complemented each other and the thought of living without each other was scary. "I am a spendthrift, whereas Sana is good at choices. We cannot think about shopping without each other," Alina had told MiD DAY then.

Sana's family is bound by a contract with the channel and, hence, refused to comment.

Rahul gets emotional with everyone
Date: 2008-08-31

Mumbai:

Why did Rahul agree to be part of Bigg Boss' 2?
We have a fighter spirit in the family and Rahul accepted it as a challenge to prove himself to the world. Rahul wanted to regain his lost image.

Have you been watching Bigg Boss?
Yes, I do watch it frequently. But when I travel to my in-laws place in Hyderabad or attend party meetings, I miss a few.

What's seeing Rahul on reality TV been like?
It's good to see him conduct himself with such dignity on television.

Are you happy with the lover boy image Rahul has earned through the show?
Frankly, I feel that Rahul is such a sweet boy that he is just being liked by everyone and I will not call it loverboy. For me lover boy is Shah Rukh Khan (giggles)...

Isn't Rahul being overfriendly with contestants on the show?
Rahul is a very friendly person and he gets emotional with everyone. I might be a little shy while talking to people, but he is very overt.

How have party workers reacted to Bigg Boss?
I never thought people would watch Bigg Boss, but we are getting immense support from party members.

Your take on Rakhi Vijayan suggesting to Monica Bedi that she woo Rahul and milk the opportunity?
I will not go by what you tell me as I have not seen it myself. Frankly, Rakhi considers Rahul her brother, so I don't think she meant what she said.

People say Rahul is acting childish and he should not have come to the show...
This is the real Rahul and I think people will see his efforts and accept him.

Sanjay Nirupam and Ehsaan Qureshi have accused Rahul of sneaking into the girl's room at night. Your reaction?
No comments! (sighs)

Do you know Payal Rohatgi?
I have seen her on the show...

She said on-air that she's been Rahul's friend since many years. Have you ever met her?
As she is Rahul's friend, I know her.

With Rahul being associated with so many female contestants on the show, do you see someone as a prospective bride?
(Laughs) No, people should stop thinking about this. We don't take it this way; we just watch the show.

How far has Rahul been able to clear his image in public?
He is still in the house and that shows he is being liked by people who have voted for him.

Guess who can't watch Bigg Boss 2?

Two people who would have taken an interest in the closeness developing between Rahul Mahajan and Monica Bedi don't have access to Bigg Boss. Rahul's estranged uncle Pravin lodged at Nashik jail and Monica's former lover Abu Salem at Arthur Road jail only have access to Doordarshan daily, as per prison rules.

Not many are aware that Pooja Bedi was not the first choice for the weekend anchor on Bigg Boss 2. The first choice was the former inmate Ravi Kishen, who after gaining popularity through his stint in the first season of Big Boss 2, has now got back to his first love, Hindi films from where he had dropped out to do TV and then went on to become a Bhojpuri star. After doing a series of entertainment programmes on Zee TV, he was called back to anchor the weekend episode of Bigg Boss 2 by Colors, but he refused.

His business manager Badshah Khan says that Ravi Kishen wants to focus on his movies. ?They wanted him but he has been shooting in South Africa for the past one month. He is doing a film called Luck for Ashtavinayak, where he is playing one of the lead roles along with Shruti Hassan and Imran Khan. The film is being directed by Soham Shah. He has been getting a lot of TV offers from 9x as well as many other channels. But he wants to concentrate on the movie offers now,? says Badshah Khan.

Shilpa says no to reality TV

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, who had won Big Brother last year, says she will never participate in another reality television show.

"No way. I can't go through it all over again. I really don't have the patience," said Silpa in an interview to People magazine. Shilpa shot to fame on Big Brother and endured racial slurs from fellow housemate Jade Goody.

"You're forced to stay with people you might not get along with. You cannot run away and no matter how difficult they are you have to deal with them There's always a fear about what the camera catches and how you are projected in the outer world."

Shilpa says this is the reason that she has always guarded her private life, especially moments spent with former business partner turned boyfriend Raj Kundra.

"We never realized when the friendship became something else and went to the next stage," she says. "It was the comfort level that I had with him, which prompted me to partner with him on other ventures."

Fighting back Raj's ex-wife Kavita's allegations that Shilpa is a home-wrecker, the actress said that she met Raj after his separation from Kavita and that she (Shilpa) could never have pursued him because she is "old-fashioned for that".

Of long-term plans -- both in business and in love - Shilpa said that she is presently consumed by her under-production film and that a date for the wedding "will culminate once the film releases and all this tension is out of the way".

Hi friends,

Rahul Mahajan's liaisons in Bigg Boss

Indo-Asian News Service

Saturday, August 30, 2008: (Mumbai):

Rahul Mahajan, son of late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, has been creating waves on reality TV show Bigg Boss by his flirtations with controversial starlet Monica Bedi and rumoured link-up with actress Payal Rohtagi.

And Rakhi Vijayan, who was voted out of the show on Saturday, was seen playing a strange mix of a trouble-maker and trouble-shooter between Rahul and Monica.

The actress, best known for playing Sweety in comedy serial Hum Paanch, went to the Bigg Boss house after a troubled marriage with Raveena Tandon's brother Rajiv.

Rahul too is on the show after his marriage to long-time sweetheart Shweta ended.

To compound the strangeness of the situation is Payal, who has been seriously linked to Rahul after his break-up. So who scripted this bizarre quadrangle? Destiny or the Bigg Boss spin-doctors?

One wonders how the Rahul-Payal real-life pair were thrown together in the seclusion of the game show house. A question that one of the contestants - comedian Ehsaan Qureshi - brought up not so gently on live camera.

He also accused Rahul of stealing into the girls' chamber in the middle of the night after wrenching off his microphone - something that is strictly against the Bigg Boss rules.
Even Monica, former companion of gangster Abu Salem, has been repeatedly reprimanded by Big Boss for doing away with the mandatory mike.

Said an industry source: "There's definitely more to the Mahajan-Monica-Payal-Rakhi quartet at Bigg Boss than meets the eye."

The question is whom is Rahul Mahajan interested in - Payal Rohatgi or Monica Bedi? On the Bigg Boss cameras he seems to be completely ignoring Payal and lavishing interest on Monica.

In fact, Rakhi was heard scolding Rahul last week for "freaking" Monica out by flirting with her. To this Rahul replied that he was only indulging in some "time pass".

Mahajan's constant attention to Monica could be a ruse to throw spectators off the Payal trail. But it could be a very dangerous ruse.

The source added: "If Rahul is just flirting for time-pass then he's playing with fire. Neither the government agencies nor Abu Salem will like what Rahul is doing with Monica. And if Monica is in Bigg Boss to whitewash her image, then she isn't going about it the right away by crying constantly and making herself out to be a babe lost in the woods who doesn't know how to deal with Rahul's attentions."

Hi friends,

Like it or loathe it, but Bigg Boss 2 has become a bit of an obsession with tube watchers. Maybe it's our latent voyeuristic tendency that prompts one to watch the proceedings in the House. But needless to say, the 10 pm - 11 pm slot is reserved for this show. This week, it appears that both Rakhi Vijayan and Rahul Mahajan are in danger of being ousted. While Rahul, who was dressed in Lord Krishna's garb as part of the Janmasthami celebrations, appeared far from perturbed, Rakhi seemed to have bawled her heart out at the prospect. Rahul, soon realised that he appeared a bit too cool, so now even he is shedding tears at having caused so much of grief to his family and is determined to earn his lost 'self respect' back. He also talks about every aspect of his life being under a scanner. But that's the price celebrities pay for being born into famous families. So, it's vital that they conduct themselves with dignity.

Talking about Janmasthami, Ektaa Kapoor held a celebration on the sets of Mahabharata. This was more of an effort to prove that all is well with her new show and she has no plans to terminating the series contrary to rumours. Ektaa also used this opportunity to clear the air on Zoom TV and openly scoffed at the rumours. But the lady who had lost a lot of weight has once again regained those pounds. Time to hit the gym again Ektaa.

Meanwhile, channels are so desperate for publicity that they resort to new gimmicks to gain TRPs. Bindaas channel for instance, only airs English movies with Hindi dialogues. It was rather hilarious to watch Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie mouth shuddh Hindi dialogues in Mrs and Mr Smith. Perhaps, this is the channel's way of reaching out to rural India where English is still not spoken or understood. If this trend catches on, Bollywood producers would be in trouble as they would no longer be able to flick angrezi scripts and get away with it.

With so much of reality TV and cinema happening, it looks like the saas-bahu serials have taken a backbeat. Can't blame the viewers who have been fed on a diet of regressive thrash for years. Now that they have options, the serial writers will have to get their act together. How long can you watch evil mothers-in-law, manipulative bahus and spineless men in highly convoluted situations year after year?

Bigg Boss in Big Trouble

by Meenakshi Shankar

Aug 28, 2008, Mumbai

Seemingly Ramdas Athawale's RPI (Republican Party of India)members have a whole lot of time on thier hands. Going by the rumors floating around in the political circuit, news has it that they will agitate outside the Bigg Boss house in Lonavala tommorow. Friday is a day of eviction and the entire media is glued to the Bigg Boss location because the channels are keen to capture the first bytes from the evicted housemember. But the channel, fearing the rumors, has decided to cancel the press meet.

According to close sources in the political circle, on condition of annonymity, "The said politician is said to have walked all the way from Mumbai to Lonavala last friday on a peaceful protest march. And this friday, they are planning to do a peaceful protest outside the Bigg Boss house." Amongst the party workers, the sentiment is, " We had held discussions with the channel where it was decided that the protest will stop if they issued a public apology to our president. However, despite agreeing to this they haven?t issued any apology.?

Where is the apology is the sentiment that RPI is asking the channel?

If rumor mongers are to be believed and quoted, the RPI president has issued a mild threat, "We will not let anybody come out of the house, neither are we going to let anybody in the house."

Calling this a mild threat would be an understatement.

RPI activists had recently vandalised the Colors office in Mumbai in protest of their party president Ramdas Athawale being snubbed for Bigg Boss 2. Athawale had earlier claimed that he was offered the show but neither the channel nor the production house reverted to him. Athawale accused the channel of snubbing him because he is a Dalit (Scheduled caste)

The channel remained unavailable for comment and so did the members of the RPI. The press has been kept at bay at the day of eviction.
