What I don't understand is how come the girls who are abused are not taking any actions. I am sure staying in BB house is not that imp. All of them are educated independent people and if he is so abusive they should and could take a collective action.for me all of them came to play and are there for money .before coming to BB 7 they knew what kind of show it is and what goes on there. So I would love to see girls taking actions IF THERE IS ANY ABUSE, and send a strong MSG .That would definitely impress me . In this forum I don't trust the posts because I see people turning a blind eye to the ones they like and blame the one they don't.

if people here can support their fans for immaterial things..like winning an award..then y can't we mobilize to speak up against such behavior???The question is...just as we do for others..r we here only to crib??????????????
Or do we have it in us, to move beyond FB udpates and actually put collective enrgy and motivation into a good cause

It is very very easy to take a stand on trivial issues - very few have the fiber in them to take a stand on a moral issue. This is why you see that in most Company vs. TradeUnion negotiations - workers demanding better healthcare, bonus, insurance etc are fobbed off with 5 minutes extra at tea break. (No, it's not an irrelevant example if you look at the analogy clearly).

We do need to raise our voice and that voice needs to be raised in every forum, every gathering, every interface. Whenever someone disrespects you as a person - you need to confront the person and force them to verbalize the implied message so they can themselves realize that what they are saying doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Yet these things don't change overnight. Protesting against an actor in a show is trivializing the issue. Protesting against the mentality that drives those reactions is perhaps more to the point.

If you've heard of the Dark is Beautiful Campaign by Nandita Das - she started with an amazing idea and thought - but then what did she do with it - she concentrated on one particular actor endorsing a cream from a particular brand - bingo she lost the entire credibility of her campaign in one stroke.

The same goes here - will having someone punished on a show like BB for making sexist remarks - change anything? Not in my opinion - the target audience has to be bigger and the scope wider.

more relevant example,

how many abuse reports are actually reported...any idea?

If you want to genuinely know, I can give you more credible information...we can take this offline.

However, I am sure you have an opinion on what happened with andy today?

I agree that's the intent..

ya..i know..

The same goes here - will having someone punished on a show like BB for making sexist remarks - change anything? Not in my opinion - the target audience has to be bigger and the scope wider.

Correct, and therein comes the play of mobilized collective motivation and actions..

we have ample tools for use...but you have to highlight issues along with bringing culprits to some kind of a punishment..

I agree with you, bigger issue is mentality..

now for e.g. if I talk of women abuse, defending armaan is absolutely fine because some people may not find him responsible of my POV..that is respected..

However, what you see in arguments is 'acceptance' of women abuse..and that is reflective of the society...THAT rings alarming bells..

Armaan used threatening language, which shouldn't be allowed. Why wasn't he in trouble? I know andy was wrong and he knows he was wrong. But armaan seems to threaten andy, which is not appropriate. Bigg boss was supposed to do something.

When we talk of abusing women I'll take an example from my own life that happened quite a few years ago.

I was dining out with my father and his elder brother. So as we were parking our car a young woman cut past us and took the parking space that we were backing into almost hitting our car in the process. Naturally the discussion during the dinner turned towards young women, women's rights etc. Now both the men went on and on about how women are ruining the world and giving them freedom is what is causing all the trouble and how women's lib has spelled the doom of Indian culture - you know the like.

I kept quiet for a long time and then asked them if they were including me, my cousins, my sister, their wives and sister and their own mother in this category? My grandmom had single-handedly raised 7 kids and I was like aren't the two of you insulting your own mother by spouting such drivel about women?

That was more than 20 years ago - so far neither of them has uttered another sexist remark in my presence at least.

Don't your alarm bells ring when you hear stories of the "evil stepmother" - I stopped telling stories of Cinderella, Snow-White, Hansel and Gretel etc. to my nephews and nieces.

Don't the alarm bells go off when you hear sentences like "kya ladkiyon ki tarah sharmaata hai", "tu ladki hai kya jo ro raha hai", "bigboys don't cry", "woh toh ladka hai, woh thodi na sunega, usko samajha ke kya fayda, ye ladki hai ise rukna chahiye tha" - these and so many aphorisms like this are responsible for ingraining a culture of sexism in our society.

We need to protest and fight at this level.

Every season has one of this kind e.g. Dolly bindra, Imam, Sid, sky. The list goes on . Remember Sameer Soni and dolly fight. He just got out when dolly abused and was invited back in house on public demand. It's not about Your gender. Abuse should not be accepted . I loved the way Sameer Soni took action and I supported him. I have not seen episode but abuse is. A very strong word and should not be used lightly and if it is going on indeed the action should be taken so the helpless people don't suffer.
