My name is Neha. I am relatively new to BB forum. I love Indian shows and I have been forumming since the days of Dil Mil Gaye. Another thing which is very important that you should know is that I am a Bangladeshi.
Before I begin writing I just want to clarify that I am not including every indian I know in the list of the type of people I am going to talk about. I have many great friends who are Indian-they are warm and loving. So they and people like them are excluded from what I am going to say. This post is aimed at people like him:
Navin Bajaj @NavinBajaj25 Sep
Asif is a good lukin guy, only thing is he's made in Bangladesh. Rightly said models shud keep their mouths shut! You'll see wht I mean #BB7
Again to clarify, this isnt his comment on Asif. Asif Azim is a contestant on BB and everyone is entitled to their own opinion of him. They can call him whatever they want. No I want to divert the attention to the emphasis on his nationality- He is a good looking chap but only thing is he's made in Bangladesh.
What exactly is that supposed to mean? That his fault is that he is made in Bangladesh? There are many Navin Bajajs out there and in my line of work in an international organisation I have encountered many. I have found Indians looking down upon Bangladesh-as though we are meant to be inferior or low graded.
So Mr.Navin Bajaj isnt the only racist who has certain made up illusions about Bangladeshis and sticks to them when he refers to us. So I am writing a small list to clarify certain things:
Bangladesh is merely 42 years old. We have a steady economic rate of 6.2% for the last five years inspite of recession. We are third largest exporter of garments and have been hailed by the Financial Times as the Asian Tiger in the making. We have one nobel laurete .
In terms of social development -
average life expectancy is 69 years, compared to 65 years in India and 65.7 in Pakistan, and well above the South Asian average of 66 years. 96% of children are immunised against diphtheria and measles compared to 80% of children in Pakistan, and 72% for diphtheria and 74% for measles in India.
The under-five mortality rate is 46 deaths per 1000 in Bangladesh compared to 61 per 1000 in India and 72 per 1000 in Pakistan. And according to Unicef, the literacy rate for young women aged 15-24 is 78% in Bangladesh, compared to 74% in India and 61% in Pakistan.
As for gender equality:Bangladesh outperforms both India and Pakistan in the Gender Inequality Index (GII), a composite index that measures the cost of gender inequality to human development. It ranks 111th on the GII compared to 123rd for Pakistan and 133rd for India. In the recent survey BBc chose the capital city of Bangladesh to be 7th happiest city in the world.
We are not worthless, we are not low graded and we are not inferior. According to Navin Bajaj, Asif could be an idiot but not because he is from Bangladesh.
It is truly sad when we face this from our beloved neighbours-Honestly most Bangladeshis see India as our true brother. We support your India in cricket when ours is no longer competing, we watch your movies, we gossip about our serials and we do it as it is an extension of our identity. All we want is to be accepted by you as a friendly nation and the Navin Bajajs dont allow this. It is amazing how India, the country which helped us gain our independence, cannot accept our identity as an independent nation.
I am just glad that most Indians arent like Navin Bajajs.
Thank you
A proud Bangladeshi
