Hope your parents come over their traditional beliefs, come out of the mental shackles and do what is right and that is hug you, your hubby and kids...and bless you all!😊

At times it pains me...its impossible to straight jacket our country and countrymen...Its India-Bharat-Hindustan...all at the same time and the three can have little similarity with each other over so many things!😕

Hi Cruiserji

My dad and mom are separated, dad is okay with it but mum and her family are not. Its been 12 long years now, in fact there is fatwa in my name in delhi and my naani actually asked to be given her rifle so she can personally shoot me😆😆 But is okay I have a great husband and kid and time has proven that I made the right choice and have a loving family to show for it😃

Nice to see that you are happy and have an understanding-loving husband Pratts.👏

Time is the biggest healer and leveler!

Futile to expect your Naani Ji to get reformed this late in life, but don't lose patience with Mom. Keep doing the right things...send letters-pics of kids n family-Diwali-New Year small gifts...and eventually she will melt!😛

All the best!

Education is the key

No, It is not because Shilpa is from some village. Compatibility is very important in marriage. Sometimes it so happens that elders want their children to get married to a person of same caste. Not because they hate people of other caste. But, Say for eg. Most of the Brahmins are Vegetarians. Sometimes such things becomes an issue. So everybody looks for long term commitment to marriage and do not want such things to become an issue. You may tell that they have to be broadminded to accept a Non-Vegetarian as a spouse. But I think nobody wants to take chances in marriage.

On topic - whats wrong if she said that? I am Brahmin, been in NY my whole life and would prefer marrying a Brahmin too. It's not a 'village' mentality nor is it that I look down upon other castes, it's just a preference. It's easier for the families too.

That being said, my sister didn't even marry an Indian.

@would prefer marrying a Brahmin too...

are you applying for a brahmin thru' your post😉

sorry but you are wrong about brahmins..I m from bihar where this caste system is followed very religiously..I belong to kayastha community..my boyfriend is brahmin. His elder brother is getting married to jain girl..even my bf is ready to get married to me whenever I wish.but I am scared becoz of my parents..tyey wont allow me this inter caste marriage..

when shilpa said she and apurva are brahmins, she also told they belong to UP.and I think people belonging to other parts ofncountry should know that people from bihar, up are so keen to get their kids married in their own caste, rather sub caste..this is what they teach their kids..many couples in my collg broke becoz their parents wont agree for inter caste marriage in any caste...so I think u must not blame brahmins only..As to why Shilpa said, she might hv faced problems in her family if apurva had been non-brahmin..so she was happy of this fact

I am not sure whether today, people in India even understand what their Castes actually mean, except for a simple understanding that we are so and so and our caste is this or that!

Do all people born as Kshatriyas defend the country or join Police / Para-Military forces? Do all Aggarwals, Goels, Guptas (Trading Vaishya community), necessarily do Trading only?🤔

Its KARMA or the chosen course of action that decides one's CASTE!

I for instance, am born in a Brahmin family, whose father happened to be a Senior Army Officer (So Kshatriya)...I myself am a Business Entreprenuer...(So pretty proud Vaishya)!

Rather than Government's policy of avoiding mentioning the word CASTE and yet offering CASTE based reservations in Government Jobs, India mein at School-College level there should be a thorough explanation of why CASTE system came into existence (Specialization in respective skill needs), how it got corrupted (Selfish Brahmins-Kshatriyas propagating themselves as most superior)...and how in today's world, orthodoxy about what 'MY CASTE' is...has very little meaning!😛

Don't Brahmins wear leather stuff today?
Do all Kshatriya specialize in arms training?
Do all Vaishyas do trading?
Don't we see Shoodra community working in Call Centers-Army-Teaching etc.?

Phewww...rant over!

Just for your info. When census was conducted few years back, An elderly lady and a guy visited my house. They asked about our family members and other details. When I refused to divulge caste details she confiscated my Voter's card and told me to collect at the office. OMG! I had to literally beg her to get my Id card back and told that we are brahmins. When Govt. expects us to mention our caste in all Applications for education and jobs, how can we expect people to come out of that. Naturally this makes people to identify themselves with a particular caste. But what Shilpa and Apurva said was completely harmless, it is just keeping compatibility factor in mind. Not with casteist feeling.

sorry to correct you but I think you have heard something wrong. You are probably talking about the things used to happen ages before. That was a different era and I think every community did not want its people to marry out side.
Even now people prefer to marry within the caste if it is not Love Marriage. I am a Brahmin, me and my sister both married out of our caste. and we are alive.
Parents may feel bad for sometime but everything goes off with time.
