If you observe in real life people ask such questions as well but not with an intention of having a fling but as a friend who is looking out for the other friend. You are staying with ur ex, u have to be cordial and somewhere down the line thr's this emotional connection as well specially when things are mutual. Its a game show and thr might be instances in the future whr u would want that emotional support and who better thn your ex who knows you in and out.

His questions were something that seemed genuine as pointed out by Salman too...guys have this tendency of asking such ques. and looking out for thr friends.
