Are we subscribing to ridiculous stereotyping in this forum itself?

the infamous BB show is towards the end of its 3rd week and ample of genuine and synthetic controversies have made sure that the forum is full of activity with tens of topics created on daily basis.
Each of the topics, discuss, dissect, support or protest the different actions of the housemates while calling out the double standards, stereotypes, generalisation that is employed in the show.

but like BB represent the microcosm of the big society, so does IF represent a microcosm of the differing values and opinion of members of this forum.

A lot of us are seen making topics, or commenting in topics using words like acting like a man, be a man, sher nahin sherni, gossip karne walli aunty, chugalkhor aunty.

While we are busy dissing and calling out BB housemates over their double standards are we not showing deplorable standards ourselves.

What makes people think being a coward is female trait? That because aarya acts like a coward he should be called a female? Are you not insulting the women in your house, your mother, your grandmothers yourselves by saying being a coward, gossiping and bitching are purely feminine and if one does not do it, one is a MAN else one is a female?

In big boss it has been seen, man or woman , irrespective of gender, people indulge in gossip. When something sane and smart is done, it can be done by a man or a woman.

both pritam and praneet stay relatively unaffected and do their rask. But so did Minnisha in the second task, where she was a superlative captain, leading and supporting her team.

Biggest Gossip of this season is Punit Issar. Not just Gossip biggest idhar ka bat udhar karne wallah is also Punit Issar. Why say he is behaving like a woman when he is essentially expressing a personality trait that is very Punit Issar.

I think in our bid to create entertaining posts, or making our point, we are not only subscribing to regressive notions but are actually propagating them as well.

Any person can be sane or cool or normal, or eccentric or drameebaaz or coward and gossip. It is not gender specific.

While calling out the mahila mandali of this group for misusing women's right, please do not abusive the actual idea of equalism.

Wow very good post and much needed 👏, i even feel some people are very harsh to the contestants even without knowing their reality.. there are many jokes about BaapBeti that is Karishma and Puneetji and people commented things like her real father would now kick her out seeing her behaviour and many more mean and silly things without understanding the fact that her father has already passed away in 2012 and thts why she was crying remembering him in one of the earlier episode..I mean seriously comments like this are just so personal and mean to say in hatred for someone.. Disliking someone's behavior is ok but being too judgemental and being so harsh should seriously be stopped

I believe one should judge a person's action and not their intention and never should go too personal without even understanding a person..

My problem is that we are so carried away by the idea of being WITTY that we fail to be SENSITIVE.

It takes less than a minute of thought before we stop ourselves from saying something regressive - but all our thoughts are directed towards expressing our like/dislike towards a contestant and sounding funny while saying it.

Fact is that when we use gender stereotyping we actually support violence against women - whether it is verbal, emotional, mental or physical. Make one sexist joke about "gossiping women" - you are 10 times more likely to dismiss an incident of harassment as "figment of imagination" - thereby encouraging the crime.

Having said that, to be honest I too am guilty of one brand of sexism at times - that of castigating the male of the species as mentally less agile and physically less capable :)

At times it shows through in my posts. Thanks for this post - I too needed that wakeup call.

^wow, its good to hear that you liked it @tanaz_aka_DD

@Purva: yes and we did debate over it in this forum itself.

Infact the way Preetam and gautam continue to work as a servant, sleep on floor and subsist on paltry food, it is very commendable. But I would not say they are bearing it like a woman or a man, I would say they are bearing it like two very strong human beings
