I apologize for the long post!
As someone from Bihar (though I call myself a faux-Bihari since I didnt get a chance to live there much, but can you ever take Bihar out of Bihari? Never, not even in Texas!🙄), but not an Akshara fan - is there anyone in that house who deserves a fandom? It's more of an experiment of opinionated people in a closed space - anyway I digress.
As someone from Bihar, I kind of understand Akshara, not that I am trying to defend her for anything, but we are a weird lot. We are someone who still have one foot in the modern world and one where are we are struggling to come out of clutches of regressive patriarchy - where people like Akshara will do a raunchy number because that is what sells, and yet will judge other women for things they do or wear. Many Biharis I know, judge, stare and will have a mask - one for the world, to appear cool. And one for their homes where they struggle with their own new identity and old mindset.
Years of brainwashing, years and generations of judgment, years of sl*t-shaming and being put down as a woman, will do that to you, will force you to take a stand against yourself and your kind. And what's even worse is that you start believing your regressive opinions as righteous ones.
Apart from the kinda 'regressive' behavior and body language, Akshara is very very insecure. And loud. This is where I relate to her. Insecurity for accent, for being from a state which kind of provides daily wager to the ehole country (a profession looked down on in India) as rickshaw wallas, or a state where grooms are kidnapped to escape dowry system or where crime, in general, is pretty high, will do that to you. Will bring out your insecurities, and assumptions that you are also a criminal or the likes.
My sasuralis in Jammu, always exclaimed, "oh you are from Bihar, we have lots of Bihari majdoors! Do they kidnap grooms? Would it be safe if we go there for baraat?" But they didnt say it with malice, they said it because they don't know! They see what the media shows us, either mainstream or the ones where Akshara and her colleagues do those raunchy weird things.
At the same time, while I never faced any maliciousness from anyone for being a Bihari, things were mostly in my mind. One incident happened in another state where a former colleague said about someone who was not from bihar as - "S*la Bihari kahi ka". So I get the presumed and assumed insecurity Akshara has. And why dhe gets loud, thats how we deal with our insecurities, by going into the denail that we even are. And going into a fight and flight mode. And that doesn't absolve her of her actions and her bitter, towing-the-line words.
Why did I write this here? It was an attempt to tell the forum that her actions and behavior have a history, as does everyone's actions have in that house. Judge her all you want, because that's why they are there. While you do that, know that not all Biharis are Akshara, atleast not totally! And at the same time, akshara does deserve a degree of benefit of doubt!
Thank you for reading. ❤
