Mewar entered into subsidiary alliance with British and continued as a Princely state till 1947.

I do not think MP's clan went against Brits. Maharana Swaroop Singh rather gave shelter to many Europeans and their families at time of 1857 mutiny. Mewar army rather helped repulse mutiny at Neemuch.

In Haldighati Mughals were not more than 50,000 and Pratap had not more 8,000. The chroniclers would definitely exaggerate.

Pratap used only one strategy at Haldighati, simply because he just did not have enough men to execute other strategies. Pratap had 2 war elephants and he depended on their charge to break the Mughal lines and for his horsemen to follow through and quickly reach Mansingh to finish him. Unfortunately for him, after early losses the Mughals managed to kill the mahouts. One elephant wandered off and the other was taken captive (the only prisoner of war one may say)..

Subsequently the heat took its toll (Rajasthan is pretty hot in June) and Pratap was injured with around 5000 of his men already dead. His friend took over his chattri and charged at the Mughals which allowed Pratap to withdraw. The Mughals were exhausted by the heat and also afraid that Pratap may have kept back-up in the narrow valley and decided not to chase that allowed Pratap to effect a complete and orderly withdrawal from Gogunda (which was their capital).

Everybody knows the subsequent story. Bhama Shah donated his wealth to Pratap who decided on the guerilla warfare and apart from Chittor and 2 other forts had completely won back the rest of Mewar. Later Pratap's son Amar Singh concluded a peace treaty with Mughals and as part of the deal got back Chittor with the condition that it should not be garrisoned.

Our country is and was blessed with extremely good soldiers but unfortunately our leaders have mostly managed to let them down.
The British paid the soldiers well, which is the reason why our people used to join the British Indian Army. Just with a few British generals/colonels giving guidance the British Indian Army comprising of Indian soldiers used to be virtually unbeatable. Only if there were proper Indian leaders at the right time in our history
