First of all, PraPhool doesn't exist. And whatever exists right now is a one-sided fangirl crush. And comparing this to KKHH is practically blasphemous.
In KKHH, Raj and Anjali were two best friends. Raj was a skirt chasing flirt while Anjali was a hardcore tomboy. Their friendship was mutual and on the same plane. They pulled each other's legs for fun yet still understood each other. Tina, the beauty with a golden heart, comes onto the scene and Raj falls hard for her and she reciprocates. Anjali, soon a bit jealous, tries become something like her by wearing girlish clothes and make-up only to have Raj mock her albeit not unkindly. Tina tries to console her but is unsuccessful. Raj arrives, apologises, consoles her and they are back to being BFFs again. Tina at this moment realises that they share something that she and Raj doesn't. She tries to leave the scene but Raj stops her by holding her hand while still hugging Anjali by the other. This moment was extremely symbolic. Raj loves Tina but loves Anjali as well. Tina and Anjali both have a special place in his life, while Anjali is closer to his heart, he is also not willing to let Tina go. When later on, Anjali realises that Raj and Tina have really fallen hard for each other, that Raj right now does not have the maturity to accept her as a lover the way she is right now, that she loves both of them and wants them to be happy and doesn't want to come in between them but is unable to bear that in front of her eyes, she leaves. Raj tries to stop her but fails. The scene showed Anjali and Tina sharing a look in which Tina heartbreakingly realises that Anjali loved Raj even more than she did and perhaps she came in between two unknowing lovers unintentionally. Anjali throws her veil to Tina, silently reassuring her to take care of Raj and live a happy life with him, disappearing from their lives forever. Tina treasured her memories of Anjali, naming her daughter after her, leaving her letters to reunite the two lovers because she knew that Raj loved Anjali as well, just was unaware of the fact that he did.
In short, Raj loved both Anjali and Tina and both loved him back. Its a complete love triangle. Raj didn't see Anjali as girlfriend material and therefore never could consider her as more than BFF until he saw her in a sari and considered her as a girl. Raj realised his love for Tina first probably due to the fact she was not his BFF and was a girlfriend material and thus proposed her who accepted it. Anjali not wanting to come inbetween them leaves but not before Tina learns about her feelings while Raj blissfully remains unaware. While Tina dies soon after, she wanted to reunite Anjali and Raj leaving that job to her daughter.
In Pratap-Ajab-Phool case, its completely different. Pratap and Ajab both admired each other's qualities and soon fell in love. They understood each other and were equally gentle and pushy with each other. In this scene, Phool from the very beginning is the very beautiful, annoying and outspoken but good-hearted BFF of Ajab. A fangirl of Pratap even before she met him, they started off on the wrong note. Phool takes offense to what is not at all offensive and sort of her fault, but decides to "teach" Pratap a "lesson". She tries to outwit him but fails much to Pratap's amusement while is rather immaturely successful in sabotaging Chakri's wedding, much to Pratap's anger. Pratap didn't find it at all funny nor did Ajab neither did I. Soon, she tries to make the things good but unfortunately, the Afghans attack, putting them in danger. Pratap saves both Ajab and Phool and shouts at them. If you look closely, you will realise that in the first sentence, he accuses Phool who shamefacedly accepts it. Next he yells at them that he wants them inside the palace. Phool thinking that he is still addressing her stretches out her hand for him to take. Pratap doesn't even see it, yells again, grabs Ajab's hand despite her not giving it out to him and possessively and protectively drags her alongwith him while Phool silently stares at their hands contemplatively and sadly and slowly trails along behind them at some distance. Phool soon shows attraction for Pratap due to his heroics and starts imagining him complementing her even though he actually never did. While Phool soon started impressing him relying on Ajab's skills which she knew were impressing him, PraJa had their own duel going in the BG. When talks came upto marriage, Ajab, despite knowing that she and Pratap like each other and that Pratap isn't interested in Phool or someone else, backtracks and starts pushing Phool towards him because she thinks that she is unworthy of him, that Phool is worthier of him and also not wanting to hurt Phool's feelings. Pratap, unable to understand Ajab's coldness, pressurized to get married to Phool by his own lady love and not really wanting to interact with her, is becoming increasingly frustrated and as a result scarier than before. Phool, though unaware of details of PraJa duel, is able to pick up that Pratap is not interested in her romantically and considers her as only a friend and that probably he prefers Ajab to her. She is not completely aware of it but she is alert and able to pick up titbits of it.
In short, Pratap and Ajab are in love with each other. Phool has a crush on Pratap but Pratap does not see her anything more than a friend. He does not see Phool in a romantic way AT ALL. Here, Phool is the third wheel. Its a love T. Despite the fact Phool is more beautiful of the two, Pratap saw through the outer shell and fell in love with the more sober and wiser Ajab. However, Ajab due to her abusive past and Phool's much higher social status, doesn't consider herself worthy of Pratap and therefore is trying to force Phool on Pratap who doesn't want her. Phool on the hand is able to sense Pratap's discomfort but is unable to understand to situation.
So, don't compare KKHH and PraJa-Phool.
