For a show to be succesful it is important that its characters connect with audience and elicit strong emotions from viewers. Earlier their start was a tad shaky. But now they seemed to have bucked up.
- Faisal's acting is improving and so is his dialogue delivery. He is doing great as Pratap. Pratap's character is coming out very well with his innocence, honesty, wisdom, patriotism, loyalty, bravery, humour and purity expressed in various instances.
- Jaiwantabai has connected a lot now as not merely a dutiful disciplinarian Rani ma but also as a devoted wife and a loving mother to Pratap. Recent scenes have shown her more affectionate, vulnerable and softer side which is good.
- Bhaatiyani is doing brilliant as a vamp! She attracts strong reactions from viewers. It makes the show interesting and Aashka plus CVs are doing a swell job with this character and her schemes!
- Other characters in the mahal are also slowly getting more to do in the show. The daasis, the ministers and courtiers - slowly their characters are being fleshed out and their roles are coming about strongly in the story. That again adds to interest and generates discussions among viewers.
- Kunwar Shakti, his brother (Vikram?) and Pratap's cutie friend Som are all wonder kids! Their characters are coming about very well and make one curious about the future story. They all act well too.
- Udai Singh's character is also being explored well with his softer side for Pratap, too much love for Bhaatiyani and now interaction with Jaiwantabai as a husband and parent and not just as a King. Actor does a good job too.
- It is nice that they have now started taking to narration to discuss historical scenario briefly and give perspective to audience. This really helps in making sense of the show, informing us about some things while making us more curious about future happenings in the show.
- Showing Pratap's interaction with the common citizenry was another great step. đ Shows on rulers are incomplete with instances of what the public thought of them and how they interacted with the public. I wish they also show ordinary citizens casually discussing about royals and Mewar politics amongst themselves apart from their interaction with royals.
- The visuals, sets, costumes, jewellery, BGM etc. are absolute finesse! đ The finery, royalty and class are evident. Much unlike other shabby costume dramas on TV. Even the way they capture sand and blood splattering in battle scenes or sword-fight practice sessions are eye-catching!
- Language and dialogue delivery is good and rather improved from initial episodes. I like the mild sarcasm and wit in characters' dialogues (especially Kunwar Shakt and Pratap). I wish they make characters take a bit more care of the authentic Rajasthani accent in their voice and pronounciation. That'll be better. And it gets emulated by viewers too. The show Balika Vadhu had initially benefitted a lot due to characters speaking in their typical Rajasthani accent. It catches attention, sounds interesting, makes people curious, sounds fun and sometimes cute..and one feels like emulating it or knowing more about the language/region. It improves connect and lends uniqueness in a major way.
I still feel the show could tap more into this area.
- Sibling rivalry, rivalry between women for a man's attention, bedroom/kitchen politics, conspiracies within the mahal and beyond it, multiple impending dangers for Pratap and Mewar both from family and outsiders, contrasts between good, bad, ideal and flawed characters, family drama, patriotism, greed, love, lust, insecurity, suspicion etc. - this show has now almost all ingredients to make for an interesting and entertaining watch! Pieces are finally beginning to come together and make some sense.
I feel the show has got a proper footing now and should make the most of it! Blend stories well and give us thrilling and enlightening episodes. Hands down the best fictional show in the 10 PM slot for me! đ
