@moner I belong to Rajasthan. So these stories I have heard from my mother and grandmothers and other elders. Rani jayvanti did not perform juhar. The third jauhar was performed by wives and womenfolk pf the commanders who were left behind

Rana uday sing II was the king of mevar. Akbar laid a Siege on chittorgarh one of importamt forts of mewar. The royal family fled and uday songh founded udaypur he won back mevar but could not win back chittor

Pratap and akbar faught many battlrs. Pratap never lost mevar and never won back chittor. On his deathbed he made is son amatsingh wow to continue the battle for chittor. Amarsingh fought 17 battles with Akbar. Ultimately he felt its useless to fight. He went into peaceful alliance with akbar

I too belongs from Rajasthan. Even my great great grand mother became sati along with several other women when her husband (General of Aamer Army) got martydom in battlefield.
There is a place name as Satiyon ka Chabutra in Aamer where her finger prints are there along with several others. I feel so proud being the descendend of such brave forefathers.
So in short Jouhars have been the tradition in Rajasthan, not only Rajput clan all other Kshatriya used to .perform Johar and saka . Rajasthan is the symbol of sacrifice, patriotism and courage.

It's not that south was fortunate. To tell the truth, there are enough stories in Kerala about war and valour, its just that its not published so people don't know

For example read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Colachel and read this

There are many others covering Karnataka like Rani Chennamma and Rani Abakka Devi and Vijaynagar empire fighting the Bahmani Sultans. They are not popular that's it.
