[This post is a response and further analysis of @MrDarcyfan ' recent post - Why "Beyhadh" is Not a Love Story! I would recommend you to read that before proceeding: http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4795399]
After having read @MrDarcyfan 's post a couple of times, my mind seems to be conflicting with itself. Part of me agrees 100% with those views, for, from the very beginning I though, or rather, knew this is how the show would go down, with its fair shares of dramatic twists and turns, of course. Now, recently I have felt an indescribable emotional attachment with ArYa as a couple, in my eyes, they're made for each other and nothing, in a million years, should ever tear them apart.
Is this how I think the show will go? Yes. Is this how I want the show to go? Had you asked me this a couple of months back I would've agreed, not wanting Beyhadh to turn into a sappy romance, but part of me now just wants a happy ending for the protagonists who have had an agonising life. Perhaps Maya leading a happy life is what will distinguish, amongst several other factors, Beyhadh from Gone Girl?
Talking about control, we know it is an essential factor in Maya's life. She wants control in everything, I'd say want because it isn't exactly a need although she considers it to be one. May I add, I think love is possible with control being involved. Would it be the purest or selfless form of love? No, but I would still consider it love. A love that is selfish, self-centred and obsessive. Regardless, still love. Maya has had her fair share of problems which have moulded her into who she is today and what she requires, and in my mind I justify her actions with the sole reason that 'she's had a hard past', although, some part of me knows that isn't enough a reason.
'We can't save people from themselves' - Maya doesn't seem to have understood this so far, and I feel when she does, it will make a gigantic difference her life. Maybe she'll stop trying so hard to keep something that isn't hers in the first place.
1.Maya has fallen in love with Arjun. That's the truth.
2.Maya's way of loving Arjun is not the best example of 'love'. That's a fact.
3.Maya will end up harming herself as well as Arjun in the process. That's a possibility.
4.Maya will end up harming anyone who dares to get in the middle of her and Arjun's relationship. That's a most likely.
5.Arjun will drift away from Maya eventually due to her behaviour. That's half a maybe.
6.Arjun will help Maya, bringing back happiness in her life. That's another half a maybe.
If you observe carefully, between statement 5 and 6 only one of the Maybes could become a reality while the other will just remain a past possibility. I would personally want statement 6 to come true, but something tells me that statement 5 is more likely to happen than statement 6. 5 as well as 6, both have to do with Arjun's actions, or rather reactions to Maya. It is unknown how Arjun will react to Maya and it will be one of these two ways. At this moment, it is Arjun's next step which is unexpected, perhaps because we've never been given an proper insight to his thoughts, while in Maya's case it's fairly easy for the viewers to put themselves in her position and think.
"Uss se pyaar karo, jisse control kar saku. Jab pyaar aap ko control karne lage, tab uss pyaar ko barbaad karo!" This is a line from the very beginning of the program, and while referring to it is not completely wrong, I'd like to believe that eversince, Maya's views have changed quite a lot. I recall Jhanvi trying to persuade Maya, telling her to give Arjun a chance to which Maya responded saying that love is either your strength or your weakness and she didn't want to rely on love to be either of those things. Her views at that point of time did not stop her from falling in love with Arjun later in the show, so I hope the above line isn't something she still holds true.
While @MrDarcyfan says that Arjun's love could have been what could have saved Maya, I'd like to question it, wondering whether Arjun's love will be what will save Maya? And the response to it? It doesn't seem impossible, in fact it seems very likely considering how the show is currently going. Maya does have a problem, but every problem has a solution. In her case, her solution is Arjun, all she has to do is allow him to cure her, which in a way would be surrendering to him, something very hard for the control-freak Maya. But Maya is changing, her opinions and ideals are changing too, so maybe, just maybe she changes upto the extent she allows someone to help her, this someone being none but Arjun?
