Hey guys! While I was away thinking that names for characters in shows or books were just a random choice of words that paired well together, here were the Beyhadh makers proving me wrong.
I never really looked into the names of the Beyhadh characters, they sounded great and that's all that mattered to me, but recently something struck my interest and I was curious to find out more about their names. The first thing I did was find the meaning of each one of the protagonists' names and suddenly it was like discovering a whole new world.

Maya - put in the simplest term, Maya means illusion. Illusion in a way, means the perception of falsehood. I never saw it this way, but the name suits the character's personality extremely well. Isn't that what Maya Mehrotra offers in life? An illusion? The illusion of happiness, satisfaction?
Everyone thinks that Maya Mehrotra has the perfect life, but that's just an illusion. Once one breaks the barriers and gets to know her, you discover that her life is so much more different from what it seems to be. Everyone judges her based on that false illusion. It's almost as if the name Maya was tailored for this character.

Arjun - his name means fair, clear and open-minded. I looked a bit deeper into the name only to come across Arjun from Mahabharata, the Indian mythological classic.
As we have seen in the show, Arjun Sharma is definitely open-minded as a person. Not only are his aspirations open to a whole new set of ideas, he seems to be much more acceptable of things that aren't viewed as 'correct'. Despite having seen Maya in very vulnerable and almost insane/crazed manner, he just wanted to be that pillar for her to use as support. He never termed her as crazy or paagal like almost every other person in the show did. Also, Arjun from Mahabharata is well-known for his focus in archery, which again, is a similar trait shared by Arjun Sharma, who has unbelievable focus when it come to work.

Saanjh - her name signifies dusk, the time of sunset, the transition from light to darkness. More than the current plotline, her name hints the big change in Saanjh Mathur. The transition from light to dark may not signify Saanjh turning from good to bad or negative for that matter. It could symbolise the subtle but obvious change in her state of mind. We have seen this character go from the happy chirpy bubbly person to someone who is drowning in her own tears and hides pain behind every smile, that is its own kind of saanjh.

Do you think the writers and creators of the show looked for names to specifically suit the characters or moulded their personalities to the name? Or do you think the names just happened to suit the character's personalities really well by change? Thanks for reading 😊
