@ani from the first promo it was evident Maya is the manipulator. She will manipulate and that is the journey she will have to take. That manipulation she wont get anything that is lasting. Because perception cannot last long. One day or another the truth will come out.
Arjun-Maya is not romantic at this point. I have stressed clearly in my post they are not in love. Definitely cannot be in love. Because Maya is damaged, Arjun is deprived and their perspective in life is same. Maya wants to control a man and Arjun doesnt want to be under the control of a woman.
Was it? Then, I may have missed it. From what I gathered from promos, I was pretty clear that Maya is a complexly layered character who has both the shades of light and dark in her. What I had assumed was the love between Arjun and Maya would go through a natural process, not an artificially induced one. I genuinely expected Maya to naturally fall for Arjun and Arjun to naturally fall for Maya.
Then why are they going for each other. Maya for the first time felt secure against Ashwin when she was around Arjun. He offers her that emotional security and she thinks it is love. The girl in Maya wants that emotional security at any cost.
Coming to Arjun he has never felt the pampering of his mother. The way a mother takes care of the child without questioning, without telling anything bad about it. Maya pampers him or creates the illusion of pampering boosting his ego. The child in him needs that pampering and he feels attracted to Maya.
I have always said Maya doesn't love Arjun, what she feels for him isn't love but emotional security. For Arjun, it's the attraction of power and status. Pretty much like you said it now.
Coming to women empowerment, woman empowerment is different. If you ask me the best movie that showed woman empowerment is Perumazhakalam ( Dor in hindi). You cant beat the characters of Ganga and Aysha. Aysha a woman braving odds coming to the doors of Ganga to sign the mercy petition for her husband who had accidentally killed Ganga's husband. Ganga braving the traditions and even outcasting giving the pardons. The ladies were not CEOs they were simple housewives but the strength they show is simply remarkable 👏👏👏. But daring to show a female protagonist which does not bind to normal stereotypes of a show differentiates Maya. Whether a man does what Maya does it is also bad. But society is quick to point at Maya, but will not question the man who does the similar manipulation in " n" number of soaps to make the leading lady fall in love with him.
It is a question can we watch when a woman does it. Can we accept her, if she is willing to change, can she be a wife too. Because in the other spectrum men are accepted and they are husbands without even changing much.
I haven't watched either of the movies you mentioned (Pink and Dor) so, I wouldn't know. As far as breaking the sterotypes is concerned, I have always liked it and even appreciated the effort taken to do something different. Personally, I don't remember having taken liking to any such character or approve of what they have done irrespective of whether it was a man or a woman. I don't look at Maya and Arjun as prospectives husband and wife, at least not at this point. So, whether or not Maya would make a good wife material is the least of my concern. I'd rather want her to be able to fight her demons, sort her past out, shape herself up for her own good, get genuine love from those she deserves and give her unadulterated love to those who deserve it, first.
Coming to Maya's past. It wont be exposed now is my take. It is Saanjh's journey to dig that out as she will have to defend Arjun or Maya dont know who for a crime they didnt commit. Only in that search the dark secrets of Maya's past will tumble out. Atleast most of them
I didn't mean complete revelation of her past up there. I meant, bit by bit and piece by piece because the show is rather bland with just the focus on the love triangle. I agree that it'll be Saanjh in all probability who will unravel the mystery that Maya is. But to keep the momentum going, each character needs to develop as the story moves forward.
