Shivin has done great imo. It's the messed up execution that has made a mess of the show alongwith the illogical Rishi death track that can never be justified.

When the makers cash in on the success of a show by launching a sequel or season 2, comparisons are bound to happen.

My POV:

In terms of characterization:

Maya Mehrotra >>> Maya Jaisingh

Ashwin >>> MJ

Rudra >>> Arjun

Chemistry:

MayRa >>> Arya

Concept:

B1 >>> B2

However in terms of the thriller aspect, both seasons are just as terrible.

so yes there’s a few things I like in S2 but overall if I was recommend someone to watch Beyhadh, I’d recommend the first one.

Except for the presence stellar actors like Jennifer and Ashish, this show is a mess in itself when it comes to the script and thriller component. Beyhadh 1,despite all its flaws, stayed true to its concept which was Maya's obsessive and limitless love for Arjun. Maya Mehrotra,no matter how dark, was always a consistent character and remained so till the end which is why she went off like an enigma.

Now let me come to Beyhadh 2. The promos promised us a tale of Beyhadh nafrat which defied every norm and shattered every limit. And this nafrat was supposed to be between Maya and MJ. The concept is a bold one no doubt. But I would say that the writers didn't have the guts to explore and execute the concept properly which is why they diluted the story. The characters lack consistency, complexity and depth. This is really no different from the Naagin series or EHT where a wronged girl returns to take revenge. However the writers knew that they had to sell this old wine in a new bottle with the Beyhadh brand which is why Maya Jaisingh/Maya Rudra Roy was given some shades of Maya Mehrotra like the obsessive love and the bloodlust. They didn't want to take a risk but wanted to bask in the reflected glory of Beyhadh 1's success. In short they wanted to ride in two boats but ended up falling.

Maya Jaisingh's character is a bundle of inconsistencies and contradictions.First of all, while it is possible for her to fall in love with Rudra, her extreme obsession for him makes zero sense. Revenge isn't her priority anymore. Its all Rudra,Rudra and Rudra. It appears like a lame attempt to imbibe Maya Mehrotra in her except for the fact that Maya M had a solid reason to fall for Arjun and get obsessed with him.Maya Jaisingh,on the other hand, should have been in a dilemma for developing feelings for the son of the very man who ruined her life.

Another fact is that Maya J is a hypocrite. She has the guts to stand in front of God and behave like a righteous warrior of justice which would have been acceptable had she not killed Rishi in cold blood. What Manvi had to go through was horrific but so is the brutal murder of the innocent Rishi.

This is another point of difference between her and Maya Mehrotra. Maya M used to seek solace in God but the moment she sank in her obsession for Arjun, she removed God out of her life. The day she immersed her best friend Lord Ganesh in water was the day when she let go of all inhibitions and began walking on the path of darkness.

Maya Jaisingh or Maya Rudra Roy,on the other hand, wants to have the cake and eat it too. She wants Rudra to never find out that she is his brother's murderer. Matlab aisa kaise chalega?? Till now no one has understood why she murdered Rishi or what good it did to her plan. Oh I remember. She doesn't have a plan in the first place. It would have been better if they had shown as unapologetic and ruthless in her pursuit of revenge instead of showing her to be lovesick for Rudra.

This reminds me of the other and comparatively better ITV revenge dramas I have seen - Ek Hasina Thi and Paanch. In EHT,Durga had feelings for Dev but she never let them overshadow her mission. In Paanch,Roshni was distracted for a while after falling in love with her sister's killer's brother but got back on track after being betrayed.Their priority always remained their mission. Those two were fighting for their respective sisters. Here Maya herself is the victim. She is the one on whom all the atrocities were inflicted. But she has pushed her pursuit of revenge/justice to the backseat coz romance matters more right?

Now let me come to the big bad wolf MJ.For him,the word which comes to my mind is half baked. He was supposed to be the object of Maya's obsessive hatred but they ignored his character for several episodes instead of establishing it properly. The audience couldn't understand what made him so terrifying.Even now they aren't exploring him properly. We still don't know what goes on in his mind except for the usual rant of "Main Manvi ko jeetne nahin dunga".He is just another kameena sasur who has taken the place of the mean sasumaa.

Rudra turned out to be the ultimate sootli bomb. He started with a lot of promise but ended up being so underwhelming. He is the typical hubby who is blissfully unaware and who exists for being the arm candy while occasionally romancing his wife. There are no layers to his character whatsoever.

The MayRa romantic scenes do not contribute to the plot in any manner and they have become repetitive at best.

I don't think the show deserves to go off air now but the writers need to improvise their game asap.

Well said. I am telling this from day one that this show needs to get good thriller writers. The made the good plot but failed to execute it properly. Yes! Beyadh 1 was also has many loopholes but was stay true to its concept. It was about "beyadh pyarr" and MM has shown obsessive love for Arjun for which she can kill anybody that comes in her way. In Beyadh 2, the concept was "beyadh nafrat" but MJ (Maya Jaisingh) has not done anything for this nafrat.

At IF, most of the member think that Indian audience is not ready to see the bold content like this. The truth is that the script has too many loopholes and inconsistencies. More than revenge, makers are more interested in making Maya-Rudra's love story. It also getting boring with too much Maya's rudras jaap.

Maya's character has passive-aggressive tone. One day she is smart player, other day she is traumatized, next day she is all lovey-dovey and positive, the other day she just go killing spree. At least Maya Mehrotra was obsessive throughout the season.

MJ only has body but no soul. He has not fleshed out properly. He seems a great villain on surface but no substance. Itna bada businessman hoke pura din ghar me ghumta rehta hai. He did all these horrifying things with Manvi just by the returning of flowers, is itself a big joke.

Rudra is the most compelling character of this season. His spark also has lost. All I see him being happy for both daddy and his wife.

They killed Rishi but this hold any importance in Roy mansion. Kal sudddenly yaad aaya ki Rishi naam ka ladka bhi tha family me.

Couldn’t have said it any better. I also made a topic about this a few weeks ago that the makers have deviated from the concept that was shown in the promos. They really need to work on framing the plot and characters properly instead of cashing in on Jennifer’s popularity and inserting MayRa scenes here and there just to make the fans happy.

S1 the first promo itself reveal the whole plot , where maya set fire to a priest hut who just informed she and arjun cant lead happy life together (that was first promo in my regional language ), the whole story stick with it in fact many viewers felt when arjun should not leave maya even though they knew maya is guilty, that much the story development convinced audience to love a dark character, esp the S1 has many male audience (even in my home both my brothers used to watch it ,loved jenny performance )

S2 had a very promising start but totally disappointing, they said its beyhadh nafrat but lots on their way ,Maya and MJ clash should have more focused and maya character show as more mystery (flashback kept as secret like S1 Maya's childhood ) so we can felt thriller , here the story neither classy nor thriller just pathetic and i dont understand the makers obsession with maya and rudra romance as i m skipping their part so have interest to comment (i m watching B2 here and there only for jenny ) , this show never satisfied their loyal fans i mean 80 % of beyhad viewers is jenny aka maya fans it's not meant for them

Can I just say hear hear?!!

No, I do have some stuff to add. The problem isn't that the characters are half-baked or that there are inconsistencies or even that the story is now saas-bahu drama in a thriller packaging. The problem is that the CVs just had a basic idea in mind and Sony asked for a second season and the CVs presented this dark thriller idea without properly developing it or thinking it out. They saw the likes of Ek Hasina Thi, Rakht Sambandh, Paanch, Revenge, etc. and thought - ooh here's our own revenge drama except we'll add a romantic angle to it and sell it as a romantic thriller. Sony probably heard that and said do it without asking any other questions.

The result is that we got a stupendous start. Maya Jaisingh who would do anything for revenge except go against her morals, MJ a super villain whose very crux wouldn't be revealed so easily, and Rudra Roy a lover boy and the man with the ability to change the game. The story hooked us. There was depth, there was thought, there was a storyline that was never seen before on Indian TV. And the CVs did justice to that storyline - for about the first few weeks.

Then something happened. We can speculate all we want: TRPs, channel, audience, etc. Whatever the reason for the change though, it was a big change. We went from a revenge-driven Maya to an obsessive lover Maya with no plan. I get it. Getting married to Rudra and entering the Roy house wasn't part of the plan. It sent her 10 years of planning for a toss. But in 10 years did you not once think of a contingency plan if you end up having to enter the Roy house?

We also went from a super villain MJ with a past yet to be uncovered to this "I will destroy her" egotistical MJ who could be taken down with a bullet. Ashish is still doing a brilliant job selling us this MJ, but it no longer has the swag, fear, and charm that the old MJ was meant to be. I don't see a strong backstory to MJ any longer. I don't see the fear and anger that MJ was meant to entice in the audience. I don't see the ruthlessness with which MJ uses and dumps people. MJ is just, like you said, a kameena sasur instead of a kameeni saas.

You know what this was my fear. I don't know if I mentioned it on the forum ever, but I was of the opinion that if Maya was to ever enter the Roy house we would be treated to the regular kitchen politics and half-baked planning and plotting that goes on behind the ML's back. And that's exactly what happened.

I do disagree with you though. I say take the show off air. What's the point of continuing this show if this is what we are going to be treated to - a saas-bahu show in the guise of a revenge thriller.

Sasur - bahu show in the guise of a revenge thriller to be precise 😂 most Indian shows face the same problem once the main leads get married. The plot shifts towards family drama and half baked plotting and planning. Also it’s very evident that the makers of Beyhadh 2 are exploiting Jenny’s popularity to sell the show.
