Hey everyone!!! This is my first post on the forum.
Ever since the show began,I was curious about Maya and Mrityunjay's equation and the nature of the relationship they shared.With every episode and flashback,the past gets clearer and I can't help but notice certain parallels between their characters and the central characters from Quentin Tarantino's iconic Kill Bill franchise. The central plot of the movie revolved around Beatrix Kiddo/TheBride,a rogue assassin,seeking revenge on her ex boss cum former lover who along with his associates brutally assaulted her on her wedding rehearsal,killed her fianceé and his family and put a bullet in her head while she was pregnant rendering her comatose for five years.She wakes up to discover that she has lost her baby and starts walking on a path of vengeance which ends with her killing Bill and reuniting with her child who was alive but at a huge cost.
Now let's look at the similarities which Maya and MJ share with Beatrix and Bill.
i) Both Bill and MJ were considerably older to Beatrix and Maya
ii) Both the men inflicted unimaginable physical and mental trauma on the women.
iii) In the movies,both Beatrix and Bill were morally ambiguous characters and neither of them was completely "good". Similarly over here,MJ and the current Maya are jaded characters who possess the capacity to be ruthless and both haven't spared innocent lives.
iv) Bill had a group of associates who had helped him in attacking Beatrix and she took them down one by one before reaching to Bill. So does MJ.
However there are huge differences as well :
i) Bill,despite everything he did to Beatrix,had genuine feelings for her.He was a mentor,guide and friend to her before things went haywire between them.He respected her as a lover and as a worthy opponent.
MJ's relationship with everyone in his life is based on control and domination.He seeks to have the upper hand in every relationship he is involved in and he barely has respect for anyone.Its hard to imagine him genuinely caring for anyone save his sons who weren't spared from his toxicity either.I am waiting for the entire story between MJ and Manvi to come to light but I don't see how she would have been an exception either.She would have probably been another possession for him to claim and discard.
ii) Bill's attack on Beatrix was the action of a jilted lover whose beloved had left him.She faked her death and wanted to leave the life of an assassin in order to raise their child and she hid the fact from him because she knew he would lay claim on the child.Without having complete knowledge,he endangered her life and that of their unborn child as well.Either way it doesn't justify his action.And he was a doting father to their daughter whom he had raised for 5 years.
MJ assaulted Maya despite knowing that she was carrying his child which makes it clear that he had zero regards for both of them.
I am looking forward to see how the writers portray Maya and MJ's equation in the upcoming episodes but I hope that they make it interesting by showing both the characters trying to take each other down with intelligence and shrewdness.
P.S. I hope I am not violating any regulations of IF because this isn't exactly a comparison post.It's more of an observation about parallels between two stories.
