Noor of Karam Apna Apna: Pallavi Subhash

The dimpled cheeks, sweet graceful smile and girl next-door attitude communicates and breezes an air of informality as the audience lives the life experiences of Gauri in Ekta's "Karam Apna Apna". Ekta Kapoor's lead character Gauri played by Pallavi Subhash in the serial "Karam Apna Apna" is akin to the other lead heroines of Ekta Kapoor serials be it Tulsi Virani, Parvathi Agarwal or Kashish.

While frantically searching for a new face to play the lead role of Gauri in her latest serial "Karam Apna Apna", Ekta chanced upon a glimpse of Pallavi in the serial "Tumhari Disha" of Zee Tv where she performed a minor role as Preeto's sister. The talented girl with her youthful smile and cheery demeanour has mesmerized the audience with her remarkable performance. She had earlier acted in two Marathi daily soaps "Char Diwas Sasuche" on ETV Marathi and "Adhuri Ek Kahani" on Zee Marathi.

Gauri, a middle-class girl from Kolkatta gives prime importance to her family and desires to enjoy marital bliss by marrying Shashank her fianc and setting up a family. However as ill luck would have it problems weigh her down and compromises which symbolize Indian women is truly pictured when she agrees to marry the callous and apathetic Shiv. Marriages are made in heaven, so goes the popular adage, however for Gauri married life is a nightmare. Enmeshed in family relations and its intricacies, Gauri seeks to establish her own identity. She decides to go for work and earn income of her own.

Pallavi the latest entrant to the Star Parivar has a galore of veterans to lead her in the field. Akin to other heroines of Balaji Telefilms, Gauri is the archetypal contemporary Indian woman who can easily switch between roles and carve a space of her own. Ekta also wields the baton as to why women have to forgo their natal homes for another. Gauri is strong yet compassionate, self-respecting yet considerate, etc. Humility is the buzzword for Ekta, when it comes to exemplifying the virtues of the female protagonist. Pallavi extolls the virtues of a simple Indian girl who is deep rooted in the Indian traditions and customs. Pallavi who gives life to the character Gauri is emblematic of a rich blend of dignity and poise. The ease and elegance with which Pallavi is transformed into the character Gauri is indeed admirable.

Catching the ebb and flow of the lives of so many people and their preoccupations, the serial focuses on the lives of the rich and the poor, nevertheless the rich extravagant lifestyle of the rich is apparently flaunted. The costumes, the opulent settings and background music bear the inimitable Ekta touch.

"Karam Apna Apna" with its impressive line of actors Iqbal Khan, Achint Kaur, Apara Mehta, Salil Ankola, etc, and time-tested screenplay, wonderful locales, excellent dialogue delivery and brilliant on screen chemistry between actors and actresses makes the viewing an experience worth cherishing.

'I liked the way my character ended in Kasamh Se' - Pallavi Subhash

As her role in Kasamh Se has drawn to an end, Pallavi Subhash aims to get back to Maharashtrian theater, as acting on stage has always been her first preference!!

"With an overdose of daily soaps, my entire lifestyle has changed. I now want to get back to theater", quips Pallavi. The actress also wants to make it big in Marathi shows or films. "My fans there have been requesting me to do some work in Marathi, so that opens up another avenue for me", she states.

Pallavi, who played the tactful and evil Meera in Zee's Kasamh Se, loved the way in which her character was established. "I was to be in the show only for 4-5 months, but I got an extension due to the popularity of the character. I liked the way in which they developed it. Also, I was happy with the way they ended my character", avers Pallavi.

The actress also recently enjoyed her first stint at reality shows with 9X' Tyohaar Dhamaaka. "I had refused to take it up earlier as I was doing two shows. But, I could not deny the production house, as I've known them for a while now. Finally, I took it up as I had a chance to do something different. I enjoyed the rehearsals and all the good clothes I get to put on (grins). Dancing has and always will be close to my heart", quotes the actress.

Pallavi would not mind doing another dance reality show. "I will love to take up more opportunities when it comes to dancing; but it is a definite no-no to the singing ones, as I am not even a bathroom singer", says a smiling Pallavi.

On the low TRP's of Karam Apnaa Apnaa, the actress states, "I don't worry about TRPs. As an actor, I used to give my best shot even when we had high TRPs and I continue to do the same even now. So that hardly matters to me".

As of now, Pallavi as Gauri is busy fighting against all odds in Karam Apnaa Apnaa wherein she has an uphill task to save her husband from the enemies.

'Vegetarian food is easier to digest' - Pallavi Subhash

Are you a foodie?
Ya I am quite a foodie, but I prefer to have Ghar Ka Khana and avoid having much of outside food.

What is your favorite ghar ka khana?
Everything that my mother prepares! I am not that choosy when it comes to home food.

What are your favorite dishes?
I love to have Dahi Khadi, Ghee rice and I like Pooran poli a lot.

Do you have both vegetarian food as well as non-veg?
I used to have non-veg, but after I have gotten into the hectic shooting schedule, I have become a strict vegetarian. We pack up late at night usually, and I feel vegetarian food is easier to digest when compared to non-veg.

What is the dish you can have at any given time in a day?
Well, there is a sweet dish called Kharvaz, made out of milk. This is a typical Maharashtrian sweet dish and I like that a lot.

Do you cook and what are the dishes you prepare well?
I love cooking. I like to cook Aloo paratha and all other parathas. I prepare yellow as well as khali dhal well. I make good Pulav and of course, make good curd rice too(smiles).

What is your diet pattern on a normal working day?
See, I shoot for nearly 12-13 hours a day. So as I said before, I avoid eating heavy, oily and spicy food. If I have a shift at 9 in the morning, I wake up at 8, and my mom gives me a glass of milk with honey and lemon. I follow that up with another 2-3 glasses of water. I don't take breakfast at all. Though it is believed that we need to start our day with a heavy breakfast, our food schedule depends on our system, and we should be knowing what to eat and when. Before going for my shoot, I have a glass of Complan or Horlicks without sugar. Then at 2 in the afternoon, I have my proper lunch which consists of roti, rice, sabzi and dahi. I see to it that I drink water only after half an hour of consuming food. At 5 or 6 in the evening, I have lot of fruits. For dinner, I avoid rice and take rotis with sabzi and salad. I prefer to eat light at nights.

So are you a calorie-conscious person?
Not at all, it is just that I know what my body can take, especially when I have my hectic shooting schedules. When I have a day off, I enjoy to my heart's content with friends. I love to go to McDonalds and I love to have chaat too. I am not figure conscious at all, but it is just that I have a basic knowledge on what is good and bad when it comes to food.

Pallavi Shubash enters Kasamh Se Tonight!

'With Roshini Chopra busy with Sahara One's Jjhoom India and Prachi Desai hitting to the dance floors of Sony's Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, lights have dimmed out in the Kasam Se story track. Balaji brings Pallavi Shubash to fill in the missing void and to add the missing glitter and glory on the sets.

The Telly Buzz team talks to the Karam Apna Apna lead – Pallavi Shubash, who gives us a glimpse of her character in the show.
"I am playing a character named Meera, she is Kamal's sister who is Jai Walia's friend. I can't reveal a lot more about Meera, everyone will get a glimpse of who she is after tonight's episode. I am very excited to play Meera's character." When asked if this is a cameo, she replied, "No, its not a cameo, as far as I know it's a full fledged role. And Meera's entry will spice up the drama even more" So does that mean we will be seeing less of Pallavi in Karam Apna Apna? "No, its nothing like that. I am managing both the shoots well. The production house adjusts with the dates very well, and I've just shot for Kasam Se yesterday, so as of now I am not facing any difficulty with the shoots…"

Tune into Kasamh Se tonight, as Pallavi makes her first appereance in the show.

"My work keeps me fit" Pallavi Subhash

Pallavi Subhash has won many hearts with her simple and graceful act of Gauri in Karam Apnaa Apnaa. On screen she is seen as a simple sari clad bahu but in real life, the model-turned-actress prefers to wear jeans and T shirts. Here she shares a few of her fashion fundas, favourite brands with Rachana Trivedi.

"Fashion is about being comfortable"
I feel comfortable in jeans, plain T-shirts or shirts. I don't believe in following current fashion trends. I also prefer traditional dresses like patiyala and chudidar. Fashion is different for different individuals. It might sound like a clich but I feel one has to wear dresses that make one feel comfortable.

"I like to shop from malls"
There are no specific brands of clothes. I get everything from malls near my house. I am very good at bargaining but most of the time I avoid it. I also like stuff from Lokhandwala. I like to pamper my feet with just one brand - 'Catwalk'. For my make-up I only prefer MAC products.

"I don't use too many accessories"
I like to keep myself simple. Whenever I go out I just like to wear my wrist watch and sometimes diamond earrings. I like to wear my favourite perfume Estacada.

"My wardrobe is all green"
Green is my favourite color and it's a must for all occasions. My wardrobe is full of green salwar kameezes and saris.

"Fitness mantra"
For me there is no specific mantra. My work keeps me fit and fresh everyday.

"I avoid junk food"
My dabba consists of two rotis and vegetables. I avoid oily and junk food, as I cannot hit the gym every day.

Dimple cheeks and the girl-next-door attitude make the brilliant actress Pallavi Subhash more adorable as she plays the role of Gouri in 'Karam Apna Apna'. Her sweet and graceful smile and her pleasant demeanor has made her more adorable in the television industry. At present she plays the character of Gouri in the Balaji show 'Karam Apna Apna'. Her character in this soap is also very similar to that of Tulsi Virani (played by Gautami Kapoor/Tulsi Irani), Kashish (played by Amna Sharif) and Parvati Agarwal (played by Sakshi Tanwar). In this Pallavi Subhash with Yash Tonk in Karam Apna Apnasoap she enacts the character of a middle-class girl of Kolkata who gives lots of importance to her family. She also cherishes the hope in her heart that post-marriage her life will be full of bliss. In this regard he holds her would-be Sashank in high esteem. But due to her ill luck some problems arises and Sashank does not appear on the marriage day. Truly acting as the ideal Indian woman she agrees to marry the callous and apathetic Shiv (played by Yash Tonk/Iqbal Khan) to save her family image in the society. But contrary to her beliefs her marital life turns into a nightmare. She gets into a complex web of family intricacies and then Gouri sets out to establish her own identity only to land up in more disillusionment and disappointment. She learns that her husband has his own love-interest and that she has been forced to tie the knot with Shiv just to avoid the impending danger on the life of his first wife. Things get sorted out soon and life starts sailing again smoothly but the unfortunate death of Shiv shatters Gouri again and she lands up in a complete mess knowing the fact that her husband is murdered.

Pallavi Subhash is regarded as the latest entrant to the Star Parivaar and also has a galore of veterans to lead her in the field. She is the typical Balaji heroine who is the archetypal Indian woman who can switch over roles completely and then also manages to carve out a niche of her own. This brilliant actress is actually a Maharshtrian-model turned actor and has to her credit nearly a dozen of Marathi films and television serials to her credit. She also received the nomination for the 'Best Actress Zee Gaurav Award' for her performance in the film titled 'Kumkum Zaala Vairi'. She also played the character of Preeta in the Zee show 'Tumhari Disha' after seeing which the soap queen Ekta Kapoor felt that she is the right choice for the character of Gouri in the soap. She also feels that she could easily connect to her character. In this soap the attention on her character is brought about by her minimal make-up and a sober temperament. When I got a call from Balaji I couldn't believe it'
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, July 17
At 23 years of age, Pallavi Subhash, the protagonist of 'Karam Apna Apna', a daily soap on Star Plus, has already become a household name. Better known as Gauri in the serial, the telly girl was in town to promote her show.

A thorough Mumbaikar, Pallavi was first seen on the small screen in 'Tumhari Disha'. It was then that the lady luck smiled on her and Ekta Kapoor, the creative head of Balaji Telefilms noticed her work and offered her the role.

"When I got a call from Balaji I couldn't believe it and brushed it off as a joke. It was only when the production house called up several times to convince me that it wasn't a prank that I came to terms with it."

With a strong background in Marathi theatre, Pallavi took the challenge. "To be in the lead role of Ekta's soap is a huge responsibility. In fact I was apprehensive initially looking at the huge star cast of the soap," averred Pallavi. Today after almost a year, Pallavi is completely at ease with her role and says, "The character has mellowed me down and matured me."

Brushing off the common belief of being stereotyped on television, Pallavi states, "I don't bother about being typecast. For me, doing my work honestly, giving my best shot is all that matters."

A simple girl at heart with the penchant for cooking, Pallavi has her goals already set. "If any good role in films comes I will definitely consider it but till then I want to concentrate only on Karam," she coos like any other soap star.

Pallavi joins Balaji

With her latest venture 'Karam Apnaa Apnaa',( Star Plus)being currentlyshotin Kolkata against a Bengali backdrop, this time producerEktaaKapoor has trained her sights on the culture of the north-east.

Curiously enough, thegirl who plays the central character Gauri , isnotfrom Kolkata but is a Maharashtrian model-turned-actor Pallavi Subhash. The show also has Sumeet Sachdev (Gomzi of 'Kyunkii...') playing her fianc.

Pallavi has to her credit nearly a dozen Marathi films and TV serials. She was even nominated for the 'Best Actress Zee Gaurav Award' for her performance in the film 'Kumkum Zaala Vairi'.

Speaking from Kolkata, Pallavi who recently played Preeta in 'Tumhari Disha' (Zee) can't believe that she is part of a Balaji show.

"It's a dream come true for me. Apparently, Ektaaji noticed me in 'Tumhari Disha' and instantly felt that she had found her Gauri.I was immediately asked to get ready to fly to Kolkata.I didn't even have to visit the Balaji studios for the mandatory auditions. Also, I have always been enamored by Bengali culture and I freak out on their mishti (sweets)," Pallavi gushes.

As Gauri, the actor is clad in full-sleeved salwar kameez and wears minimum make-up.

"I could connect easily with Gauri as I believe in a simple lifestyle and have a chulbuli yet sober temperament. My character is not required to use a regional accent except for a few Bengali phrases. But my biggest challenge is living up to Ektaaji's expectations," informs Pallavi.

When asked which female character from the Balaji shows is her favourite, Pallavi reveals, "It's Prerna (Shweta Tiwari) from 'Kasautii Zindagi Kay'."
