It was mid-July already and the heat levels were to adamantto decrease and monsoon seemed late to arrive this year, the clouds though, were all ready to pour, but they seemed to be holding back, not allowing rainsto pour the condensed and spill. They held back and rolled as fast as themoving vehicles on Mumbai roads and flyovers, which made Reyansh think if theyhad to reach somewhere as fast as they could just like the Mumbai people stuckin clogged traffics. He grabbed his coffee lying on the table, the mug coveredwith a lid just like his heart was closed for everyone, he felt a strange pangof voidness just like the barren land feels, waiting for dark grey rain-bearingclouds to pour it away. He opened his eyes, only to find Aradhna having chit-chatwith Vikram and one of her team-mates, and honestly his heart craved for her tobe near him and to watch her having her best smile and that symphony of herlaughter, strangely that laughter of hers, that sweet voice of her made him feel a queer amount of peace which his mom’s music never gave him, his mind went back on the series of questions revolving in his head, all related toAradhna or something she did or something she had said.
Aradhna felt an instinct and she turned back at her desk leaning back from the cubicle division from where she was chatting with Vikram and Maina, only to find Reyansh who was intently observing her from his office chair, sipping on coffee, well that coffee from glass mug did made her crave for coffee; but she stopped her mind from getting distracted at coffee and all the sweet bliss sugary cookies, muffins and crossiants which she loved to have with a nice cup ofcoffee..instead she focused on what was Reyansh thinking and analyzing by looking at her so intently, maybe something to annoy her and judge her again? She had no idea, he was so unpredictable because once he was all down-grading image of women and oh that butt-slap, which he found to be very normal and on the other hand he telecasted her interview even after his side of the story got telecasted, and was behaving sweetly with her, which is very weird because his impressions of being sweet were unable to be found at least in the office. Her trance got broke with ringing if her phone, which was from her mom, probably reminding her to have her almonds and flax seeds on time, she smiled and texted her mom that she took it, she took the almonds and stuffed it in her mouth, she was just starting to munch it and she accidently looked at Reyansh who was still apparently staring at her just like before, it was enough, she stood up and stomped across the office towards his cabin.
His trance had just broke because Aradhna stood up and started approaching towards his office, he straightened himself as she entered the office and coughed, and she angrily said scrunching her nose, “Aap mujhe ghur kyu raheho?aapko akkal nahi kya ese kese ladki ko nahi taadte?” with her mouth stuffedof almonds, he raised one of her eyebrows, as if asking what did he do wrong, but he knew he had no appropriate answer to satisfy her question so just instead said, “Ms.Sahni agar aap bhool rahi ho
to mai aapko yaad dila du yeh mera office hai, yeh puricompany meri hai aur kya mujhe meri company dekhne ke liye aapki permissionleni paddegi? “, he said sarcastically, to which she replied, “Ji bilkul nahi, dekhiye na jitna marzi dekhiye aap hi ki company hai par aapki company kiladkiyo ko nahi…aapko zara sa bhi andaaza hai yeh kitna galat hai..kitna unsafefeel hone lagte hai hum ladkiyo ko?”,on which he stated proudly, “Office ki kisi bhi ladki ko puchlo aajtak kisine bhi mere aaspaas unsafe feel kiya hotoh”, to which she said, “Aapko kese pata konsi ladki kya feel karti hai…aapkya antaryami ho? Dekhiye mai HR se complaint kardungi aap ese nahi ghur saktekisi ladki ko…aur agar vo aapko employee ho to bhi nahi, samjhe aap?” she was irritated now, it’s like all he wants is to pick arguments with her and get under her skin, she rolled her eyes, and he replied, “Vese you know, employeesare assets of the company so technically to mai apne one of the asset ko hi dekhraha hu” and smirked, she took a deep breathe knowing it was impossible for her to make this person understand anything, she just said this for the last time, “Dekhiye Reyansh uncomfortable feel hota hai, aap ese nahi ghur sakte kisi ladki ko, yeh galat hai”, Reyansh stood up and she was just in front of him they were practically had space for only for air to pass on, and he leaned in towards her and whispered, “Kyun Radhi, tumhe uncomfortable feel hota hai? Kya mera tumhe ese dekhna galat hai?”, she was lost, lost in his brown eyes, it made her crave to reach in the depth and explore in that brown pool, he being near her made her body shiver, she was unable to meet his eyes hence she closed it feeling his breathe, she opened her eyes again only to find him peeking at her, corner of his mouth breaking in a small smile she had never seen. She was surprised but him looking at her so closely made her feel chills in the anticipation, she tried to look some where else as his eyes were trying to pierce her soul and he continued, “Batao Ms.Sahni, ek journalist ko sirf sawal puchna nahi, jawab bhi dena aana chahiye”,while smirking, she looked at him in shock, only to realize his hands were calmly resting on her shoulders, and she wasn’t aware of two questions being asked to her by Reyansh Namba, to which she would normally answer in essay-length but right now, in that moment, she wanted everything to stop, wasn’t it weird and she, was unable to think anything in this moment.
"where to start to begin again?
you gave me butterflies
you gave me something memories that can't move away
I was carried by your eyes that stuck and struck my mind
Is this the beginning?
why did you keep smiling?
we don't have any connections
both our friends are our friends
but when both our eyes met like an eternity
two seconds is enough
your glances make me feel alive"
Vikram pushed the door and walked in with his mug of green tea, to find Rey and Radhi standing so close, Radhi took a step back, and just stormed out of the cabin, Reyansh sighed as he saw her walking towards her desk, while Vikram stood surprised. And just like that, Aradhna ignored him the rest of the day. In the lunch time also, she came in to find Reyansh in the cafeteria grabbing his plate, she sighed and went out of it instantly, he saw her walking away and felt a strange pang of pain in his chest. On the other side, Aradhna had no idea how to face Reyansh and that too when nothing had happened, but there was a strange bomb of some unexplained feelings being gathered in her pit of stomach, and she was not knowing on how to address them, so the best she thought would be to stay away and ignore Reyansh, starting a conversation with him wouldn’t be a very good move, she thought to herself as she walked upstairs in the cafeteria again all lost in her thoughts.
She came face to face with Reyansh as he was leaving the cafeteria at the same time and before he could say anything, she walked off from the sideway, leaving him confused. In the evening she reached home and saw tons of people enjoying and laughing, then she remembered her dad’s office friends and their families were visiting them to day it was like a mini-get together which she was clearly not interested in. “Arre Radhi tum aagayi?” her mother and sister approached her grabbing her arm, they dragged her in to the bedroom and told her to get ready with extra-largesmiles, which to Aradhna seemed fishy. She asked her sister, “Yeh sab kya horaha hai?”, to which she said “Ohho Radhi di insab sawalo ka time nahi hai…aapjaldi se ready hoke aajao bahar sab guests aapse milne ka intezaar karrahe hai”,and ran out of the room. Radhi knew the only way to find it out was to go out after getting ready, hence she wore plain maroon saree with indigo blue blouse designed with rice crops pattern in white, with a small black bindi, she went out of the room. Her mother was waiting for her there, she took her arm and took her to the living room where the guests were there, her dad introduced them to Aradhna where she just forced a sweet smile of hers and greeted them. A nerdy boy named Krishnan approached her with plate of prawn tikka trying to intiate a conversation she started itching her neck when her mother screamed from kitchen that she was not supoosed to be near prawns as she was allergic to them, but before she could speak, her phone rang, it was a call from office, it was her first production today and she had no plans to miss it, it was indeed very important for her today to be there even if at late night. She took her parent’s permission and when they hesitated, she said Krishnan would come to drop her and pick her and smirkingly asked Krishnan if would not, but he agreed and even her parents agreed to it. But she found Krishnan to be very cringey as that guy kept smiling while looking at her so she said that her boss was her boyfriend and that he was very scary so he should stay away from her. They bought the anti-allergen ointment and headed towards her office.
They reached in the parking area and were in car, Aradhna was trying to apply it as fast as she could to as she did not wanted to be lateat her first show as a producer when Krishnan offered to help her apply it. When his face was near her, she felt to get out of the car, this feeling was of disgust even if Krishnan was just trying to help her in all bonafide intentions and nothing else, just as a friend…why did she not feel the same when Reyansh was near her in the noon, she was perplexed about it. As Krishnan completed applying medicines, she got out of the car and hurriedly thanked Krishnan for driving her there and helping her and rushed to the lift.
Reyansh had an extremely strange day, he was confused due to her unexpected silence and ignorance, she didn’t even pick any arguments with her when he tried to annoy her, sighing he sat in the car in parking lot, waiting for Vikram to arrive there. He saw a black car arriving at the late hours and Aradhna seating besides a guy who looked quite nerdy and to be honest, stupid. He was surprised to her with someone because he had thought that there was something between her and Vikram and now she was with whole different guy and at the same time she had ignored him all day after they were so close to each other, and they would’ve kissed if anyone of them leaned in even a bit. He saw that guy leaning in front of her from his driver’s seat and all he felt was anger boiling up, he tried to look away but was unable to, he felt a sense of disgust and was indeed unable to believe that a girl like her, would double-date or cheat someone, that too his bestfriend, Vikram. But the question was why was he so angry and even jealous and had so many questions, heshould not be this much affected, or should he and why should he be, he had no right to be.
"I sang a song August by taylor swift
“Because you will never mine”
how can I suppose to admit that I was in an infatuation or a love situation????
how to stop?
the feelings were being deepened
by your presence, I started to hate you
In your absence, I missed you more"
As the lift doors opened and as Aradhna waited, Vikram came out of the lift and asked her about Pooja and is she was okay, Aradhna assured him that she was okay but was not talking to her, Vikram bid her goodbye and went towards the car where Reyansh was waiting for him. Vikram saw Reyansh with had leaned towards the car with support of his hands, and as Reyansh saw him approach,he jolted up and said, “Us ladki ko apna dimag kyu kharab karne de raha hai tera dost hu tere bhale ke liye bol raha hu usse dur reh”, to which Vikram got confused and said, “Rey please don’t come after Aradhna uski koi galti nahi hai…tu bina baat jaane bichari Aradhna pe takeoff kar raha hai”, Reyansh was surprised on how kind his bestfriend was,he said, “Kuch bechari vechari nahi hai voh, tu itna bhola kaise hai, samajh nahi aata yeh sab manipulation hai, aisi ladkiyo ko na mai bohot ache se jaanta hue ek taraf tera hath sehla rahi hai thi aur dursi taraf she was on with that guy”, Vikram replied, “Rey tu pagal hogaya hai kya?”, to which Rey said, “Areydekha hai maine us ladki ke sath car mein alright! Uski bholi surat par mat ja,ek number ki ……ek number ki lowcharacter hai who”, Vikram was angry on what rubbish Reyansh was saying, hesaid, “Rey tujhe koi haq nahi banta kisi ladki ke bare mein esa kuch bolne ka!”,“Tujhe samajh nahi aaraha ek taraf voh apne mummy papa ke bataye rishto kotaala rahi hai aur dusri taraf she is on with…you know what aisi ladkiyo ko namai ache se jaanta hoon, aisi ladkiyo ka ek naam hota hai you know what everyonecalls them…” “Reyansh stop it!” , Vikram said seriously before Reyansh cancomplete his sentence as he saw Aradhna standing behind Reyansh. “Aradhna tum…..tumupar nahi gai?” he asked her peeping theotherside Reyansh’s back.
