What the heera mandi girls represent

STRICTLY PERSONAL OPINION

I agree that certain episodes of late were not up to what the expectations have been. But the girls' behaviour throughout struck me. The heera mandi girls are very annoying but they are representation of various human traits. The defectors of the group are not evil but misguided. The past few episodes while not review worthy, were eye opening to an extent. It opened up the cracks and crevices in everyones character but mostly the heera mandi girls. Here's a character sketch of the five ladies we love and adore (or not!)

Suraiyya: extremely bold and loud, used to having her way while at sheesh mahal, used to being someone's right hand (reason why she stood up for being monitor, apart from her age). She is blinded by rage and pride. Fails to see bigger picture. Hence, goes along with elaichi in her plan.

Ramaiyya: The quieter twin, more empathetic and understanding. She is all that what Suraiyya is not and vice versa. Taught to be subservient and play second fiddle to her twin. But tool initiative to learn and is more receptive to education than others. She will never betray her benefactors.

Bholi: A victim who lost her voice to the vices of society. Never allowed to have an opinion in her life and sold to vultures. She sways with the wind. She follows the strongest of the lot at the moment to stay protected. She had had enough abuses to learn that. She will avoid any confrontation beacsue she fears if she is on the offensive she'll end up more hurt.

Highly repressed soul. But still I believe she is not weak willed enough to commit robbery and betray her friend

Badal: Bold and sensible(at times she is!) yet victim to the prejudices injected in her mind. She'll stand for what she thinks is right. She did so for the lead couple multiple times and does not hesitate to throw a few taunts as well. But even she is not immune to the viles and vices of the misguided. Her impulsive nature drives her responses and thus she falls prey to elaichis machinations

And drumroll for the MVP

Elaichi: the representation of human jealousy and lack of will. Evident from her breaking the bulb to avoid studies. She is a teen wife who was abandoned just as Bondita( of course the reasons are different and husbands are different in character but outcome was same nonetheless). While Bondita is welcomed back into the lap of luxury, love and support, this girl is still abandoned, shunned by people, dependent on others. She is jealous of the opulence of Bondita's lifestyle, and fall prey to the poisoned words of another jealous woman. She is not evil. But she is heavily misguided and that, folks drove her to this insanity. I don't like her or justify her actions in any manner. But I'd like to understand her motivations. All she wants is to get back to her husband's house even though she will be mistreated and not even taken back. Result of all that rot that was taught to young girls about marriage.

Ramaiyya is the only girl amongst the five to have had the reality check about their conditions since heera mandi. She is a mother hen to the others. While she initially justified their reluctance to study and even the brash behaviours of her classmates/ housemates she is quick to grasp onto the importance of the task( if not for her then for.her benefactors). All the other girls including Bholi( had a near death experience, but whatever) have not had that moment yet. I firmly believe that revelation of elaichi's treachery would be that moment.

Heck I thought burning their house would be that moment but glad the makers proved me wrong. Apparently, losing their home and almost losing a friend is not motivation enough.

Anyway.....

Thus these five girls represent some very important human traits

Pride and arrogance

Loyalty and empathy

Fickle mindedness

Trauma

Impulsiveness and brashness

Jealousy, pettiness and materialistic plessures.

You, dear reader, have known all this. If not, then let's take a moment to understand what the writers probably wanted us to see while unleashing these annoying women into all our lives. They may be annoying but they represent a good many traits that are housed within us. Who knows maybe we all are annoyed because we see part of us in them( if not then good for you ma'am)
